Why don't people like the Biergarten?

I've already changed our ADR for Biergarten in favor of WCC -- partly because I know DH wouldn't care for sharing a table. But (my junior-year-abroad talking here now) I love German food and the whole Hofbrauhaus entertainment thing. I ate at Biergarten years ago and enjoyed it.

Just curious, folks who didn't like it: why? The food, service, oompah, what?

I've never eaten there, but have specifically avoided it because the food just sounds too "heavy" to walk around a park on, especially in the heat.

My family of 6 (parents, bros, DH) are going this week!

My dad is from Austria and we love German music...not sure I will personally like the food but with the 6 of us, we are looking forward to the overall experience!

I've only eaten there once and...never again. But, to be fair, it wasn't their fault.

The menu selection was a little limited for my taste but the worst was when I took something onto my plate that I thought was potato salad and sat down to eat. Took a nice healthy mouthful of it and...

IT WAS SPELT!!! (extremely fishy fish) (Correction: I've since been told it was SMELT...as SPELT is a grain.)

I ran to the bathroom to spit it out, had to eat a lot of bread and asked for the check immediately. The people we were sitting with were very nice and they thought we were leaving because of them! I was pretty much sick for the rest of the night.

So, I won't be back because I'm finicky and my appetite is now traumatized, lol!

We actually jsut ate there for the first time this past weekend. The food was good and the atmosphere was fun. :thumbsup2 Suprisingly the food did not sit as heavy as I thought it would. I stuffed my face (especially on the desserts) and pretty comfortable walking around afterwards.

I know you asked for what people dont like about Biergarten but I can only answer what I like, which is everything! Well, except that I eat too much when I'm there. :rotfl:

We ate there a couple of years ago and were all disappointed. The buffet was not replenished at all, so the trays were often empty or so picked over that only the lousy pieces were left. I could understand if the place was packed at the time, but it wasn't--it was really only about half full, so there wasn't an excuse for such bad attention to the food. Service was fine, not spectacular, but actually fairly typical for a real German restaurant in Germany (I've got friends there and have frequented a few myself), so that wasn't the problem at all. I also thought the selection was limited, in that there were only a few selections to choose from. It wasn't awful by any means, but we have no desire to go back.

We really enjoy it, but both my Dhs and my family are from Germany, his is Swiss German, and mine is Prussian German and we are used to a lot of those types of meals. I think some people look at all the potatoes and sausages and are well, overwhelmed. I know we are both fit people and eating like this a lot can do you in...I do feel stuffed when I leave, but Ive felt that eating a burger too. I think its more of a cultural thing...It doesnt take like German American, thats for sure! I love clanking my mugs with other guests. BTW, we have never had to share a table....

My DH loves it. I like the show, and think the service is good, but I am just not a big fan of the spices used in German cooking. We compromise and go every other trip for DH.

We thought it was really good. Nice and cool inside. There are lighter foods on the buffet, so you're not eating heavy potatoes and such.

didnt like sitting with strangers and didnt care for the food... and we didn't get to see the show (which probably could have made the experience more enjoyable)

We've only eaten there twice. And after our last visit.....it's off our list for good. There are too many places that we really enjoy to waste time going there!

Our last visit there was Mar 05. DD17 was not exactly "enthused" about sitting with strangers  but I will talk to just about anyone if they seem friendly. We were seated at the table and then a few seconds later a dad and his teenage son were seated across from us. They did nothing but STARE at dd.........and they were very obvious about it. The young man actually attempted to look down her top when he stood up. He leaned over the table and looked down! She started quietly freaking out. I started eating quickly so that we could LEAVE and I think it was my second bite of food contained a very dark, very long, and very curly hair (I have very short light brown hair and dd is blond). We left immediately. I attempted to speak to the manager about the hair in the food, but he really could not have cared less AND he was very lacking in customer service skills! I was not trying to get out of paying the bill, even though dd did not eat a thing, but I would have appreciated some concern on his part. Like I said, there are too many places with good food that we really like for us to waste our time there.

BTW, we go other places that have the "family style" seating (Japanese, comes to mind) and she is never bothered by sitting with strangers........when they're not freaks!

This is just our opinion!

We love Biergarten and eat there every year we go. I have nothing but good things to say!! YUMMY!

You will be missing out..WCC over Biergarten, never!

We ate their for the first time before CP last Dec and really enjoyed it. Lots of good hearty food and talked with a really nice couple from NJ. The show was great and they did some Christmas music.

Biergarten and Boma's are the only two buffet restaurants at WDW that we go to anymore. The food at the Biergarten is much improved over what it was several years ago (there are still some things we've learned to skip such as the sauerbraten) and of course it is one of the few Disney restaurants where you can find a decent beer.

I agree.... I think that WCC is very much overrated. Had much more fun at Biergarten.... I have stomach troubles and the food was a little heavy for me (we ate later in the evening). We had another couple at our table and the hubby had a problem at first with being seated with another family but he softened up after a little while of our family talking with his wife and he joined in after awhile.

I also agree. I think WCC is one of the most overrated restaurants at WDW. We love the Biergarten and never miss it. We just say hello to our tablemates and then continue with our meal as if they weren't there. I do with they would separate the tables, but it certainly wouldn't stop us from eating there.

I think Biergarten is great, too. I didn't think the seating style was a big deal, we didn't notice after a while that we were sharing a table. Although we did hear the other people commenting on how much we were eating! :teeth:

We really enjoy the Biergarten. I know some people don't like sitting at a table with people they don't know, but we've always enjoyed our conversations with our new "friends". The trip that we just finished there was a couple that sat at our table that we didn't talk to a whole lot, but we still enjoyed our meal and the entertainment.
