Why don't I get Wishes and Illuminations?

Agreed. For me its much harder to understand why folks would not stay for these night shows. :confused3 To each their own I guess. The music is great and its all a feast for the eyes/ears at no additional charge, and usually great weather. I'm not in a hurry to get back to 4 walls in a resort room-except maybe when one wall is glass overlooking the MK at BLT of course. :thumbsup2

I really WANT to see Illuminations. But it's just a matter of not being able to do it all. Eventually it's the view of the inside of my eyelids that I want. But then we hit rope drop every day and stay for hard ticketed parties, Wishes and MSEP, sometimes Fantasmic. Eventually even I have to admit that I just can't do it all.

I've been debating posting this since I joined the DIS. There are always so many good comments on Wishes and Illuminations. I guess I just don't get it? It's fireworks, and they're good ones, but it's basically just fireworks and music. Am I jaded? Am I missing something? :guilty:

I've got myself setup on my little (ok huge ) master plan to see both shows in as much of a good setup as I think I can get without spending hours sitting on the sidewalks waiting. Is there something I should be looking or listening for that I've just never taken the time or effort to notice? :confused3

I could really use your help here, DISers. :worship: The goal of this trip is to do all the things I've not taken the time to do or do properly. I don't want to miss out on the Disney magic of the experience because I'm missing the best part. :smickey:

We love Wishes (actually all Mk fireworks) but we run out of Epcot at closing. We hate illuminations.

DH loves any parade, except the one that use to be at Epcot. I on the other hand like parades but will not wait more than 10 minutes for it to start. Oddly I always get a good view. DH is tall, so she can see over me and others.

Wishes is so wonderful it makes me cry while Illuminations bores me to tears. I don't understand it either.

I would never wait for a parade, but on my CP I got to see (or hear) Wishes almost every night and it never, ever got old. On nights when I wasn't working, I'd either go to Epcot to watch Illuminations, or I'd go to the MK to watch Wishes again!

Illuminations will always be my favorite. However, I wouldn't see Fantasmic if someone paid me! :crowded:

I can see in your case skipping it. We used to open the parks but have just been too many times to keep doing that, plus the kids are now 21 so the nights are super late nowadays.

Also not sure where you stay-we always do at least 4 nights at BCV so its 5 minutes to our room after Illuminations. But like I said-lately we hit the BW for a few more hours anyways.

We open the parks, but this past trip (Christmas week), we only stayed for Wishes once and Illuminations once. I LOVE Wishes, but we were disappointed in the holiday wishes. I don't know, just didn't have the same sweet sentiment as the regular one~ little girl not singing, completely different song, jsut not the same to my group. Illuminations~ I could skip. It needs updating or something~ to me, once you've seen it, that's it. I know people love the Earth part, but it just takes too long for it to get out there to me and that whole section is long. I wish they'd change that show completely. I could skip it for sure. Wishes is just a heart string tugger to me~ I don't know~the little girl's voice is precious, the fireworks go right along with the 'story' of the song~ I'm just a big sap I guess, but I tear up every time I watch it.

I LOVE Wishes! Something about it is just magical!

However, I don't get into Illuminations. I've saw it twice and now I just skip it. It's not for me.

I love illuminations but it may be that I love Epcot but can't stand wishes.

And that ridiculousness with the pictures on the castle. why? for me that is a collossial waste of electricity. I even paid to do the wishes dessert party, thinking that I'd feel different from a "special" spot with yummy dessers. Nope. hohum

Pretty much after spectromagic I'm outta there.

I agree with the others. Every body has different likes and dislikes.

I agree that the photos were a huge waste. You'd have to be right up on the castle itself to even see them anyway.

But the special effects on the castle that were part of that show......... I thought were spectacular! Seeing the castle as a gingerbread house was one of the highlights of this year's trip for me!

I absolutely agree. I don't give a flip about the pictures and think that part is kind of silly, but I am in love with the effects on the castle . I like it better than Wishes. I'm in awe when the castle becomes a rocket lifting off, and I tear up when I see that clip of Walt projected full "screen" up there talking about "this happy place". That's about 9 minutes 35 seconds into this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0K9HkE9zYY

But I still like Illuminations better :lovestruc.

LOL! You guys are gonna MAKE me stay for Illuminations next time, aren't you? THEN what will I do for a short day? Oh the CHOICES!

I was eh about Illuminations until the year we sprang for the boat cruise (it was the restored classic little skimmer one, is that still available?). It was unbelievable to skim over the water beforehand, then drop anchor for Illuminations, then have the driver run us over to where we could see the Studios fireworks afterward. Worth every penny!!!
