Why dont I ever see bees in Disneyworld?

Theres tons of flowers and sun, but I don't recall ever seeing a bee while at Disneyworld. Does Orlando have bees?

As someone who has a horrible phobia of bees and wasps....yes, there are bees at Disney. I have seen them at the UK in Epcot in the Gardens, and at Animal Kingdom when we ate outside at Tusker House. I had to go back inside to eat. (I have issues)

But I think they are few and far between because they spray for so many other bugs that it keeps the bees down. I have not seen many plain old flies there either.

I'm sure they don't use insecticides on the bees. My guess is that they probably have the beehives somewhere within the nursery area because they are needed to pollinate the flowers, etc.

Having them so close to a large pollen source probably keeps most of them localized within that area. It's tough to be a bug around WDW!

Not to mention the fact that they've got to have some in an area making enough honey to keep Pooh Bear satisfied!

I see bees there all the time. Every time I look at a flower bed, I see a bumble bee or two. Florida has a lot of wasps as well (we fight them all the time at home). I've never been confronted or attacked by a bee there. I imagine with all the flowers, they're a pretty content bunch.

Since my son was stung on the eyelid by a bee at AK, I can assure you that there are bees at WDW.

Ouch, poor thing. I suppose they have to leave the bees be for pollination as another poster said. All those beautiful flowers...Sorry to hear about your son, though.

Yes, they definitely have them. DH was stung when a bee flew under his sunglasses and got stuck. He was stung in the corner of his eyelid and it was awful! This took place right by Crystal Palace. He still has a scar and this happened 4 and a half years ago!

There are definately bees in WDW!!! My DF's daughter was stung last August while we were waiting for the monorail from Epcot to MK!!!! And try and find a CM that knows what to do for a sting!!! They just looked at it and said, Yup, thats a bee sting!!!! The bite ballooned up so that I thought she was going to have to go to the ER. The CMs were no help. I finally found a security guard, after 20 minutes, and he called the Paramedics. They gave her this wonderful tube of topical lotion to put on it and it brought the swelling down almost immediately. She is slightly allergic and so I was really concerned. I would hate to think about someone who is terribly allergic having to deal with this problem. So a word to the wise,

Take your own medicine with you!!!!

Definitely there are bees at WDW. DD was stung in the lip right in front of "Its a Small World". We got her a frozen lemonade and held the cup to her lip while we walked over to first aid to get some ointment. Nurse was very helpful. The first aid station is very nice and DD even got a couple of stickers.

I was also stung by a bee in Animal Kingdom.
So yes, they are there!

Kidding...They are there...I have seen huge swarms of Yellowjackets around most trash cans.

There are definitely bees at WDW. One time my friend and I were walking into China at Epcot and he thought he saw a bee, well the next thing I knew I heard a loud buzzing in my ear. I screamed made a fool out of myself and was like yep that was definitely a bee!

It helps to have parents that know what to do as well - your DF just needed to ask to be shown/escorted to first aid. CMs in the park/around the park are not there to be paramedics/first aid people. They are there to answer questions. If the DF's daughter was slightly allergic, the DF should have had a better plan than to depend on the CMs. You're 100% correct that the DF should have had some medication with her.

I agree with this. My DS has several food allergies, so we always have two Epipens and Atarax with us. We didn't know if he had a bee sting allergy (we now know that he does not, thankfully), but we immediately gave him the Atarax and headed to the First Aid. Since we had already given him medicine, there wasn't a whole lot they could do--just gave him an ice pack.

But yes, if you know that your child has severe allergies to anything, you should always be prepared for the worst.

My dh found one, or I guess I should say the bee found my dh while he was standing in line at Star Tours. We think it was a Sith Bee.
