Why doesn't Disney sell...

more postcards?????

I was STUNNED that when I went into the gift shops, one of the hardest to find items were postcards!!! I figured I would be able to find all kinds to send out to friends and such but could not believe how difficult it was to find them. I finally found a small selection at Downtown Disney.

It seems like this would be a great way to sell smallish souveniers without having to take up a lot of space. I would think kids would get a kick out of finding different ones like they do with the pressed pennies.

Anyone know why this is?

I agree. The selection is surprisingly small and generic.

Maybe they don't want to take up shelf space with inexpensive souveniers? If you can put a big stack of $70 Pal Mickeys in the space of a rack of postcards, I suppose it's the more attractive option.

Same here! ;) Last year I thought it would be fun to start a collection of Disney postcards and the most I saw were at a shop at Animal Kingdom, most of them were pretty generic. The best one I found was a Fantasmic. I feel like every time I've gone to Disney I've seen a million of them, but it's when I want to buy some I can't find any! :lmao:

:sad1: Aw man. I was hoping to get a few in August. When I went as a child, I used to collect one from each park. I still have them, 15 years later. They make wonderful souveniers.

I found some in the Polynesian gift shop. They were expensive though! Since I was keeping them for myself I didn't care but they are not the 4/$1 you see at beach resorts!

It's just a fact that WDW & DLR carry just a fraction of the postcards they did 20-30 years ago. And the postcards are the same shots year after year after year...

I also noted how hard it was find decent post cards at WDW. I wonder if fewer people send post cards these days due to email. And wi-fi is pretty standard these days at most resorts.

Good point, that's probably a major factor :)

i hope they have at least a few. I have my address labels already done for the ones we send out...

I know what you mean, when we first started going regularly in 92 I bought a kazillion postcards but now I cannot find any.

I do keep all the resort postcards from our stays though. I want to make a nice photobook of them all

I didn't think that had a very good selection. But a couple years ago i wanted to send a postcard to each of the kids i worked with and was able to pick out 18 different ones. we found them at AKL.

We are a big postcard family...my parents are always sending the boys postcards and they love it. I've noticed the same thing at Disney. I had promised a lot of kids postcards from Disney on our trip before last and they'd requested certain characters. I had a heck of time finding them for them. It's sad to say, but hand written mail of any kind is quickly becoming a thing of the past. I love to read old letters and postcards my grandmother sent me. She's in the depths dementia now and it's so touching to me to read those.
You'd think you would find lots of great postcards on Main St. since it kind of echoes yesteryear. Disney, if you're listening...more postcards!!:listen:

You know what...you are right...they are hard to find..then again I only looked for them in the POLY gift shop..I didn't really look in any of the park shops.

I wish I could remember where I saw a large selection of postcards at Disney World last week. It was one of the last shops we went to and I was surprised at the selection. I will ask my kids if they remember. I purchased a $2 card at the register at our hotel (ASMovies) and the 48Cent stamp to put on it. It was kind of a 3-D effect. Turn one way it was the castle, turn another way all the Princesses.

I agree that there isn't a huge selection of postcards. I have found some pretty cool ones at the Art of Disney stores (Epcot and Downtown Disney). They don't have a selection of rides or resorts, etc. but I have gotten some cool ones with pictures of Walt, the castle, Mickey, etc. They might not be the best for mailing to people, but they make good souvenirs!

We went over Easter and I noticed a huge drop in postcard selection; however, I did see more package postcards 10 for $7 or so. I like buying them individually, not as a group. I am disappointed.

My wife usually takes care of the post cards. On our trip last month I believe she said "Mouse Gear" at EPCOT had a half decent selection.

We collect postcards and I agree that the selection at WDW is not good at all. We do send a lot of postcards when we travel, so I usually end up buying the book for some of the postcards we send as there isn't much selection without the book.

I'd love to see more park-specific postcards that feature many of the attractions in each park, and more resort specific postcards would be nice too. Do the moderates and values even have postcards? If so, I haven't seen them in the shops. I do have an old POR postcard in my collection, but that was from 10+ years ago.

I found some really pretty ones in The Art of Disney, at DTD. I wouldn't say they were postcards I'd send, but I bought 6 to keep and frame them, they're so beautiful.

I suppose you could send them though, if you're not too bothered about getting postage stamps all over them, but I just picked them out with DBF for us to keep and frame :)

Good question I'm always wondering myself as well. You'd think it wouldn't be all that more expensive to introduce a few new postcards each year and phase out the older ones.

If you think WDW is bad, try DL...the postcards they sell there all appear to be from the 80s!
