Why doesn't Disney allow guests room choice and charge for it?

My gosh, this is exactly what I was going to say. Can you imagine the absurd level of bellyaching that would happen on these boards? A few people already get emotionally wrecked when much smaller things go wrong, but not getting the perfect room will absolutely destroy some people's vacations.

After all, this is the first time my 5-year old has ever stayed at the XYZ resort. I can't believe I paid $X and when it came to my 60-day room window, there were no more south-facing balconies available even though I woke up at 7am EST to log-in, and clearly they were available the day before. Now every time I open my resort window over five nights, I will be reminded of how awful Disney IT is. Also, I promised my little niece that she would get to see the garden from her room, and now I'm going to have to break the news to her that her vacation is absolutely ruined.

OMG you nailed it! :worship:

You'd go through all the hassle of picking your room then get there and find a python in your room and demand another one...
For this reason, I'm secretly glad to know my room type is for sure on the 3rd or 4th floor. Which I understand is no protection from Palmetto bugs but I'll take my chances with them.

I could see this dramatically increasing the number of orphan rooms which would in turn actually decrease overall supply of rooms because the rooms that may be available are one or two days here, another there etc.

I pick my room at some of the hotels I stay at and I appreciate that ........... but we are also talking about hotels with 300-400 rooms or less, and hotels that do business knowing most times of year they will not be sold out or close to aka incorporated into their fiscal projections.

Yes.

But even with that, you may not be given your selected room. I've had a couple of experiences where the party in the room the night before had to extend their stay, so when I got to the hotel, I was given a choice of a couple of available rooms. So even the small hotels cannot guarantee you will get your selected room.

For me, a hotel room is a place to sleep. I don't care enough to pick a specific room.

I would pay more to be able to guarantee a certain bed type. I find it slightly frustrating that there is no way to select bed types at Disney (with the exception of select types of king rooms and bunk bed room). I travel to Disney with just my DD, but we are unable to share a bed for more than a night or two as she has sleep disturbances and bed sharing is very disruptive to her sleep. We have been assigned a king room twice. Once I was able to switch to another room, and the other time I didn’t try as there was a daybed in our room.

I’m not sure what I would do if we were given a king room and no other rooms were available. I suppose I would have to pay either to upgrade or move to another resort. Doesn’t seem quite fair to me that this could happen. Any other hotel where I stay I’m able to at least choose the bed type. On occasion if we are traveling at a very busy time, I book a room only and assign two other people (who won’t be traveling with us) to our room. I’d prefer not to feel a need to do that, but at least we are guaranteed two beds.

So yes, I would pay more to guarantee two queen beds.

I totally agree, it should be an option to book a room with a certain number of beds. That’s not the same as what the OP proposes, in my opinion. It’s a much more reasonable request to guarantee a number of beds when you book.
