Why doesn’t Yacht Club have DVC?

I was wondering if there is any particular reason as to why YC is the only deluxe that doesn’t have DVC rooms. Is it because of Beach Club next door? Did Disney want to offer a deluxe that was cash only to avoid crowding/availability issues (especially since Stormalong Bay is already overcrowded)?

I am asking because I was speaking with a family while on line for an attraction, and they commented how they would happily purchase a contract at YC, if it was available.

Because YC is essential to Disney's conventions business. A large convention at the main hall will require between 500-100 rooms. YC is the primary resort used for that.

They cannot split it down without damaging their ability to get big events. YC is only 635 to start. Most of the big conventions use a large chunk of these, about half of Boardwalk Inn and some of BC proper.

Conventions are, in their way, better money than DVC. The catering alone is bananas, let alone the AV fees.

Never say never but they’ll never do a YC DVC unless they convert the entire YC property. I think that’s very unlikely at least in the next decade.

Something that wouldn’t surprise me is if in 2042 they rebuilt all of BC as villas, and left YC as its partner hotel resort.

What about a gfv2 version for yc where we get resort rooms?

easy conversion with massive cash grab

That won’t happen because of the convention business and because the pandemic taught Disney that the last thing they need is another hotel-DVC hybrid. Better to convert more of a property they already have as a hybrid, like GF, Poly, or CR.

I believe we’ll have a DVC conversion at the Yacht Club within the next 5-10 years. Too profitable not to.

I agree...I think we would see the BC hotel become all of DVC first. And, I wonder if that is one way they can prepare for 2042 expiration. Close down BC hotel rooms, begin developing as DVC and then start the sale of those before 2042 when the current BCV villas expire...then renovate those and add them back in. They could do the same with the BWI rooms...so that in 2042...they will already up and running with DVC in that location.

YC convention predates CSR. Its possible, but not likely, that Disney closes YC convention center. Convert co.vention center, maybe tear down and rooms to DVC.

The convention center in line for teardown is at the Contemporary. The centers at the Boardwalk were all recently renovated and are used for the big events, like Gartner.

Meanwhile, Contemporary is showing its age and either needs a ton of work, or it comes down.

Coronado is more of a mid size/mid tier convention, generally kept in a scope they can keep most attendees on CSR property.

Removing the Contemporary Center is the logical move. Route mid-size to CSR, the big stuff to Boardwalk, and reclaim one of the limited buildable areas near MK where they could add more than 50-75 units.

Not likely but I was talking about converting the entire YC to DVC, existing rooms and convention center. I agree with PP, you can't really convert any of YC to DVC and keep the convention business.

And while conventions are down right now that is not permanent. They have invested a lot in updating the CC at Boardwalk. The cash they make on all the networking mixers and private character breakfasts is insane. Think "Chef Mickey for 300 with guaranteed gratuity, plus setup and teardown fees." (They even have a Frozen option with Kristoff and Sven!)

They seem to be converting hotels they frequently cannot fill to DVC. That has never been YC.

Could it be that people would expect a Yatch Club DVC to closely match the point charts at BCVs?

And we know that Disney is kicking themselves every day for making the BCVs point charts so low. Just a thought.

::yes::
I've attended 2 conventions that were at the YC and even though we weren't a terribly large group we also had to have a block of rooms at BC too.
