Why does WDW have Junior category for MYW packages?

I've always been confused as to why WDW has the Junior category of 10-17 years of age, when all children over the age of 10 years are considered adults in Disney's eyes, for room, food and tix? Why a Junior category at all - why not just infant (under 3 free), child (3-9) and adult (10+). What am I missing?

I help tons of people plan trips, and this week my friend asked me to help her sort out a MYW quote that she found online - she asked about the Junior category specifically. Her child will be 10 years old next year, so we are looking at price differences once she hits that age.

Anyone know why Disney does this? There is no special pricing for tix or food, and, you are allowed to have up to 4 adults in a room, so what's the deal?

Thanks, Tiger :)

they are considered adults for meals and tickets... NOT for room... you pay extra for more than two adults in the room, but if the "adults" are between the ages of 10 and 17 (aka JUNIORS) then you do not pay any additional...

my family is 2A (dh/me) and 2Jrs (11yo and 13yo) and 1 infant... our room does not incur any additonal "adult-in-room" charges :)

Thanks - this is the very first time I have heard that you pay extra for over 2 adults in a Disney room. We've only ever travelled with 2 adults before DVC, and now after DVC, we don't have to worry about this as we have total max. room occupancies that have nothing to do with this category.

I just learned something new today - thanks so much for explaining this!

Tiger :thumbsup2
