Why does the Disney Dooney & Bourke line have to be so far outside my budget?

I've never been a purse person. A purse is a purse. It just has to be functional.

But last night I was looking around on ebay and saw a Disney Dooney & Bourke that I love. :lovestruc Some are just okay but this one? I NEED it!! The price though ... :faint: There's just no way for it to fit in our budget. :sad1:

If you have one, or don't have one, are they really worth the price? Do they hold up well?

I was thinking maybe I could suggest to DH that I would like it for Christmas and our anniversary (Jan. 4). It'd be a combined gift.

I got the original Sketch bag Christmas before last and it's holding up great! I love it and use it often. I heard the white yellows but haven't had that problem. IMO the Dooney's hold up better than the Coach bags. But that's just me.

A purse is something I carry every single day so having one I love to carry is worth it.

I read that article on the Coach bags.. and they out-right lie...

Normally Coach endeavors to locate its factory stores at least 60 miles or an hour’s drive away from the full-priced outlets. One Coach brand, but two different businesses and very different brand behavior.

There is a Coach outlet in my County, and there is also a full price Coach Store, they are less than 10 miles apart. There are 2 Coach outlets in Orlando and there is a full price Coach Store in the Millenia Mall.. about 3 miles from one of the outlet stores.. so I wonder how true the rest of this article really is.. hmmmmmm :rolleyes1

They're not lying. You just don't understand what it says. It says Coach endeavors to locate its factory stores at least 60 miles or an hour’s drive away from the full-priced outlets.

Endeavors means to try or that's their general planning idea. That means that's what they aim to do, but that's not what they always do. If there's a market in the same town for both an outlet and a regular store, they'll do both. The article didn't say they ALWAYS put a factory outlet store 60 miles from a full-priced store, just that's what they generally try to do. Also, the article is over a year old and was based on an earnings call that is even older than that. Since then they've opened several new outlet stores, so their goal may no longer be the same, especially since they make more off of their cheaper outlet purses than their retail store version.

But regardless, you're proving one part of the "lying" article true "The problem comes when people think they are dealing with a single, common luxury Coach brand."

Please spare me from having to gain status through my purse or car! If that is the way you proclaim your spot in the population hierarchy I hope you don't ever have to open your mouth. If you have so much money that you buy whatever you want w/o thinking than your purse or car means exactly that...that you have a lot of money. Not how you got it, how smart you are, what a good person you are, how well read, etc... It says you have money. You may be a paid assassin, I don't know...all I know is that you have an expensive purse or car. Am I impressed? No. I have nothing against money, I like it a lot...but I am the last person to notice someone's car or bag, or jeans...I am clueless as to brand of anything. To tell you the truth my boss asked me what type of car I had...I was rearended and took a day off...I couldn't tell her...I bought what was cheap and 0%.

:thumbsup2 :worship:

Besides, anyone on the Dis who knows anything knows you gain status by bragging about how expensive your stroller is!;)

:sad2: Oh please-you didnt know the BRAND of car you drive-must be a looker:rotfl2:

My DH gave me a DB bag back when i "had to have one"-i find it way too heavy. I now have a fave style bag & buy 2 a year-brown for winter then a fun summer one-always leather, i really like Fossil

I am a car nut-DH and I go to Classic car shows -we appreciate design and craftmanship and buy accordingly. How anyone can not say what they drive is nuts
My new VW CC was voted one of the top TEN most beautiful cars in the world(it is fahioned from the top of the line Mercedes, but costs a lot less) , in a recent poll.:)

Having a designer purse is kind of like having a C class Mercedes almost anybody can have one!:rotfl2:

No one that has responded has mentioned the disneystore.com, they often have them on sale there, I lucked out and found the one I wanted to give as a gift on sale with a bonus warehouse clearance sale for extra savings, I saved over $100 on that bag alone. You just have to know what they have in stock, what is on sale and check often to see if any specials sales are going on to save even more money.

Yep..that is how I got my Disneyland 55th D&B and believe me, I think buying designer bags is really ridiculous..even high 'quality' ones..it's still just a hunk of leather or cloth and really not worth much IMO. I bought mine strictly as a park bag, to use at Disneyland..it's the little letter carrier size and works great for camera, etc. I bought it when Disney online had their big 20% off everything sale, used a couple of those SAMS $10 extras cards and gift card I got as a gift and there you go..free purse.

The purse I am using now is almost on its last strap but I refuse to buy a new purse till our October trip. I also love 40th anniversary DB purse. I am planning to go to Trend D & look for a purse. I also love the Harvey (??) purses. We have been using our Disney reward card DH & I talked and agreed that I could use the reward money towards a new purse for me.

Just as an FYI...If it is a Coach factory store bag, it will either have an F before the style number or a bullseye stamp in one of the upper creed corners.

So not the kind of person whose opinion matters to me. Although I am personally not a fan of visible logos on purses or clothes, someone who laughs at someone else's idea of style or the amount of money they are willing to spend is not worth giving a second thought to. Some people buy items because they like them, not because they are trying to impress a "true purse enthusiast" (snob). While it is nice to be complimented on my clothes or my bag, I buy them because they have value to me and I like them.

OP, if it will bring you joy and you can afford it, buy it. I think they are adorable, but I wouldn't carry one everyday, and I am not willing to pay the price for me to carry it just at Disney. If it is worth the price to you for the joy and use you will get out it, enjoy every minute of it.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 This thread is hilarious. :lmao:

My sister is a lover of expensive handbags. She has a couple Michael Kors and three Kate Spades, which are all beautiful.

Me, I'm happy with my Vera Bradley mini hipster. :) Though I was oh-so-tempted to buy a gorgeous Lacoste bag in the French pavilion at Epcot a couple weeks ago. But, I just couldn't see spending that much money on a bag.

OP, there is nothing wrong with D&B quality so don't worry about that. I have several D&Bs some old, some new, purchased from the D&B store and the outlet. I have never had any issue with anyone of them.
If you love the bag and you know you will use it, go for it! Like others said, its not worth cutting into your mortgage payment or groceries but if it something that can be budgeted for as a gift, its nice to splurge on something you love once in awhile. :thumbsup2

Agreed! I have about eight D&B and am planning to get the 40th Anniversary Letter Carrier on my October trip. Luckily I prefer smaller purses so they are less expensive and have always been able to get them on sale. You will be happy with the quality, and they have excellent customer service, I had a snap break 110 months after I got it and they repaired it quickly and paid the postage both ways. If it makes you feel good and go ahead and spluge!

to the OP....

don't listen to the negative Nelly's on this thread about quality etc... as I said, if you want it, go for it...

If you can swing it in your budget do it. As you said, make it your Christmas present. That is how I got mine. I am hard on purses and mine is holding up great, looks as good as the day I got it.. and I have used it EVERYDAY (and that is a first for me!) I spilled coffee in my car, it dripped onto the bag  I wiped the bag off with water and a paper towel (had them in the car) and the coffee came right off. I had a chocolate bar in my bag and forgot it was there, it melted a little. I managed to clean the lining with Tide and a tooth brush.. cannot see any signs of the chocolate anymore! Yes, it still looks as good as new. If I can keep it looking new, anyone can! :thumbsup2 I have the Mickey Balloon White Tote Purse & it was purchased in DHS. I love it, and glad that I decided to tell my family that was what I really had to have for Christmas!
Again... don't listen to negative Nelly's.. you did ask quality.. and for the most part, we here are saying, they hold up. Those that are saying the quality isn't good & not worth the money, are those that do not have them..... so you need to take that into consideration when making your decision...:thumbsup2

Yep both my Coach bags have an F in front of the style number. And yes I bought them at the factory store. But ya know what? I don't care. I have two nice handbags that I can take anywhere and they always look good. I could care less they are factory styles and not the expensive ones you buy at the full price store.

I don't buy my purses as status symbols. I buy them because I like them, the style appeals to me and they look nice. And I usually buy them when I have a 30% off coupon.

And if anyone has a problem with my factory store bags they can kiss my fuzzy white behind.

What WDW stores sell the 40th anniversary bags? I just looked at some on ebay and most definitely want one when we go in October.

We drive Hyundai's & Toyota's in this family.. and have Coach & D&B...:cool1:
I really don't like the looks of many Mercedes... beside, that is a waste of money...:lmao: It's only going to get all scratched and chipped up on the door in the parking lots at Disney anyway....:rotfl:
