Why does my iPod touch turn itself off?

At first I thought I must be pressing something but I realized that's not it. Also it is pretty new and I've never even dropped it. Also it's not because it needs to charged, because it does it when it's fully charged.
Sometimes it just turns itself off and I have to turn it back on and it's frustrating cause I might have been in the middle of typing something and it shuts off, when I turn it back on my typing is gone and I have to start over. (I mean like when I'm typing on here or things like that, I don't mean like documents or anything)

I would try and do a hard reset of the device (hold the round button down while pushing the "sleep" button at the top of the device).

If that doesn't stop it, you can connect to iTunes and do a "restore" to put it back to factory settings (but be warned that this will delete everything on your device!! - ensure that you have downloaded any purchases made directly from your iTouch into your iTunes).

Last option is that it's a hardware problem and you need to take it back to where you purchased it (if it's still under warranty) or follow the procedure for Apple Care if you bought that plan.

I had an iphone that would periodically turn itself off. I returned it to the apple store and they replaced it without question. I had found that this was a common problem. I would google the problem and since it is new have it replaced.

DBF's touch was doing this, we did the restore and it didn't help so we took it back to Best Buy (it had the Black Tie Protection) and they sent it in for repair, we got a new unit for him in a week. If the restore doesn't help contact who you bought it from, hopefully they can help you. If not then contact Apple, I'm sure they will help you.
