Why does John McCain hate America?

Really? Candidates are turning their backs during the National Anthem?

And I suspect most of the people that consider themselves true Americans are not because by your definition they have not been tortured while fighting for their country. Which, by the way, is not a requirement to be President.

Gloria, is that you??:lmao: I agree, but it doesn't disqualify him either.

Then why throw out the "McCain has more "experience" because he's older line?

Robert Byrd should not have been elected to the city council...the pork barrel KluKlux Klansmen of the Senate....

McCain has real world experience in the military having been a POW which lends him a lot of credibility in terms of the the inner workings of our military especially in the precarious instability facing America in so many regions in the world.

John McCain was a POW when Obama was playing with Legos. I hardly think comparing McCain's experience to that of Byrd is a relavent argument...obviously the "type of experience matters a whole lot...

You might want to do a little research on Robert Byrd. He was working on battleships in WWII when John McCain was playing with...well, it may have been before legos, but you get the point.

Maybe you could explain how being a POW is somehow a qualification for the presidency, as I don't see the correlation. :confused3 And where was this concern for the president having a clue about the inner workings of the military for the last 8 years? Did it just now become important?

McCain has a lot of life experience, I will grant that. But let's not pretend that Obama is fresh outta high school, here. He wouldn't be the youngest president in the last...um...two. :teeth:

Not because he's older -- because he has more experience!

Graduate US Naval Academy
Combat Pilot -- almost incinerated when his plane caught on fire and exploded on the USS Forrestal (anyone seen THAT video? -- WOW!)
Shot down, over Vietnam and spent 6+ years being tortured.
Refused to be released from prison before his fellow prisoners(remember his daddy was an Admiral at the time) by the Vietnamese in a PR move by them.
Served in the US Senate for 20+ YEARS
Sponsored many, many pieces of legislation, reaching across party lines to get things done he felt were RIGHT, despite the heat he took from his own party.
Experience? John McCain is a leader.

Obama?
Harvard law graduate
Editor of the Harvard Law Review
Illinois state Senator
US Senator for 4 years
# of pieces of sponsored legislation passed in US Senate? Can't think of one.
Gives good speeches.
It's hard to pin somebody down on their record when they don't have one.

John McCain's service earns my respect, but his record is what earns my vote.

John McCain used to be a leader. Since 2004, he's become a follower. As evidence, look no further than his vote not to ban waterboarding, a practice he used to call barbaric. Why would he flip flop and vote like that? Because he just happened to be running for president at the time.

As for the rest...only the bolded statement above is real experience in terms of governing, and it really doesn't say much other than he's been in Washington for a long time. If the status quo is what you are looking for, then McCain's your guy. If you're looking for a change in direction for this country...not so much.

Obama has a record that is heavy on things like ethics reform. You could look it up if you were actually curious about it, rather than assuming something you heard to be the truth.

I notice you included none of his experience working as a community organizer and as a constitutional lawyer and law professor. Why is that?

How is it for McCain, you only require the number sponsored pieces of legislation, but for Obama you require the number of sponsored legislation PASSED? Shouldn't you use the same standard for both?

If you look at the current Congress, McCain has sponsored 37 pieces of legislation, none of which passed as of yet, to Obama's 115.

Since 1997, McCain has sponsored 406 pieces of legislation, only 12 of which have passed.

yeah, I've seen that photo a few times, but it never loses it's impact.

I was a gung ho McCain supporter in 2000 and I really thought he was going to win. I liked his common sense approach to things and I loved that he called out the televangelists for their "intolerance". Of course, by the time the primary hit NJ in JUNE-GW had it wrapped up.

Sadly, he doesn't seem to be the same guy he was in 2000-although now that he has the nomination that could change.

Aint that the truth.
He has accepted the endorsement of Pastor John Hagee who hates Catholics, Gays, Blacks and New Orleans.:scared1:

Accepting it would be bad enough...he actually courted the guy. Can you imagine the uproar if Obama had courted the endorsement of Louis Farrakhan or Clinton had courted the endorsement of Jane Fonda?

Wow, I didn't know he sought the guy out! This from the same guy who called Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson "agents of intolerance"???

Am I the only one who thinks this shows bad judgement? PR move or not, McCain was being tortured, probably daily, and he did not leave when he had the chance. I have never understood that.

Okay, let's talk about his great experience . He was a walk-in for Annapolis. Both his granddad, and his dad were admirals. According to many, he was not well loved at the Academy because he was a real 'jerk.' And he knew he was safe. In his squadron he was known as a party guy who wasn't real serious about anything other than a good time. Was shot down making a hot-shot third run, which you never do.
Now, six years can certainly change your perspective. And that's good. Maybe that and barely escaping the Forrestal fire changed his life. Good.
But, he wasn't the great all American wonderboy people like to think he was.

Pastor John Hagee in an e-mail to supporters said:
CHRISTIANS UNITED FOR ISRAEL

Membership Update

January 29, 2007

Newsflash!

This morning I had an extended breakfast with Senator John McCain of Arizona. Our topic of discussion was Israel and his candidacy for the Presidency of the United States of America.

Senator McCain's comments concerning Israel are on target! He gets it! While I do not want to put the specifics of our conversation in this update I am glad to report to our leadership and supporters that John McCain is solidly pro-Israel.

We discussed his positions on other matters that I will share with you when I speak with you in person. This newsflash goes to the ends of the earth and I don't want to read it in the media tomorrow.

Notice the date in the above. This isn't something that McCain didn't see coming. He and Huckabee had both been after Hagee's endorsement for quite a while (Huckabee even preached at his church once or twice).
