Why does everyone love the polynesian?

It screams the 70s to us (but so does architecture in Honolulu).

I agree 100% with that statement (as I lived in Honolulu for several years).

That said, while the Poly looks "fun" (I passed thru there serval times while I stayed at the place across the road), it, IMO, isn't worth a Deluxe price.

We will be staying there only for 1 night on the last leg of our trip. We are at BWV for the beginning but I wanted 1 more night so I thought this would be perfect right on the monorail and everything. Can't wait.

While we are definitely *not* fans of 'Ohana, we really enjoy the Poly. We enjoyed the new Cpt. Cook's, too, and we've always liked Kona Cafe.

The exteriors of the buildings do look rather 70s and hokey, and that might lead to the conclusion that it's "not worth the price," but, seriously... have you seen the rooms?! Last May we stayed there for the first time since the refurb, and the new rooms are absolutely gorgeous - kind of retro island chic - and of course *huge*. The soft surfaces, the furnishings, every detail is spot-on, and obviously cost some $$$. I think those rooms combined w/ the Poly location are worth every deluxe penny.

The landscaping is great, and we like staying so that we can walk to the TTC to catch the monorail to Epcot since we aren't big MK ppl. I wouldn't rank it is our *favorite* resort, but it's probably our favorite of the non-DVC resorts - and it ranks above VWL.

We do love the Poly, and we like (not love) the restaurants there, but for us, the hook is the lush GCH, my shoulders literally drop 2 inches when I step through those doors, and it is so tropical I know I have arrived.

I love to wander through the gardens to get to cooks to fill with morning coffee,it is all quiet, you hear the stream trickling, and across the lagoon being able to hear the sound of the railroad trains, hear the Haunted Mansion gearing up for a day of fun. That to me is priceless, to be soooo close to the fun and magic of the theme parks, but to still be in this haven of relaxation that I just cannot get when I stay at the values.

Everyone has their favourites, it's why Disney offer so many hotels, and I have truly tried to love the Epcot resort hotels, but they are just not "me". closest we have come is WL, and I have height issues, so find myself pinned against the wall when on the 5th floor LOL

Oh gosh...wow...the look...the plants...the smells...the beach...the tiki torches and the lighting at night...the views...the rooms are huge...the Kona Cafe...great shopping...the staff...the concierge staff...the grounds..great pool...the boat to the Magic Kingdom...the monorail...I could go on and on....I really enjoyed staying here about 3 years ago. (I did however miss my space in my DVC villa...lol we are spoiled on space!)

enjoy...:)

I  the Poly.

It has always always been my favorite. I've stayed @ WL, YC, BC, BW, AKL, and CBR...but Poly. is still my fav!

It was the first resort I ever stayed in (way back in the early 80's). I LOVE the lobby...the decor...the pool. The whole tropical feel. Oh, I wish I were there now!

We also got married there in 2004. It was amazing. The grounds are beautiful...the views are great.

We're staying @ POP in June (due to low funds!) and I am wishing I were staying @ the Poly!

We stayed there for the first time and we really enjoyed it. After coming back from the parks, I didn't feel like I was at Disney. The atmosphere is relaxing, the monorail and the drinks :drinking1
We didn't eat at O'hanas but Kona Cafe had a good selection, the H2O amenities are nice too. The lighted water parade is neat to watch. We got a drink, sat on the hill and watched MK fireworks. The boat ride from Poly to MK was a nice quiet ride too.

At a business conference I attened on Disney property, part of the package included a Disney employee giving a speech on Disney to my fellow associates. They use it as a way continue to 'sell the magic'. Well, something this speaker said explains why I love the Poly and World...Disney constantly sells on memories and that feeling you had here as a little kid. That is why we bring our kids...why grandparents bring the grandkids. It is an obvious statement, but the way he phrased it was amazing...had to be there I guess. He explained that Disney's ultimate goal is to make you feel like you are 7 years old again, and to constatly tug on those heart strings. Poly tugs on those heart strings for me - as it was the only resort we stayed in from '79 to 88 on our yearly visits as kids. So yup, the Poly/Disney got me - I don't care if it looks like it is stuck in a time warp. Each time I go thru those sliding doors and that cold breeze hits me...I am 7 years old again. Just Disney magic I guess:wizard:

Honestly, Ive only been there once to eat at Ohana's (Which wasn't called ohanas when I was there), and didn't really notice anything that stood out, but everyone seems to love this place. Why? Honestly Im asking because I don't know - I truly wasn't even paying attention to it that one time I was there to eat. Fill me in! I feel like Im missing out on something!

For me, I feel like I'm home when I arrive. I smell the Poly smell and instantly feel home. I feel relaxed and love the "tropical" atmosphere. I love walking through to my building and seeing the palm trees.

Personally, the theming appeals to me. I live in Wisconsin, so don't get the tropical atmosphere.

It's nice enough, but I don't think it's worth anywhere near what they're charging for it. YMMV
