Why does everyone love the polynesian?

Another great advantage the Poly has is it uniquely has direct monorail access to both MK and EPCOT. While monorail transportation is direct to MK from the GF, CR and Poly; only the Poly can also give direct monorail access to EPCOT. From the Poly you can walk over to the TTC and board the EPCOT monorail there. From GF and CR, to get to EPCOT, you must first take a monorail to the TTC and then transfer to an EPCOT monorail. Taking this extra step out of the equation in the morning and especially in the evening can be a real time saver!

This is one plus of the Poly that most people forget. For us it is actually easier to get to Epcot from the Poly that having to ride that incredibly loud and slow boat from some of the Epcot area resorts!!

What I enjoy about the Polynesian:

*The room size - they're among the largest rooms of the Disney owned and operated resorts

*The laid back feel - you can hear the creaking of the bamboo plants as you're walking around. The landscaping is second to none.

*You're right next to the Ticket and Transportation Center. You can take the monorail to Epcot. Or, if you don't feel like waiting for the resort monorail loop, you can catch the Express.

*You can watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks from a lagoon view room. You MAY catch fireworks from an Epcot area resort - but Illuminations is designed to be low to the ground. So it can be tough to see them.

And while I'm a fan, I'd just as soon not step in dog poop. Beach Club, Polynesian, or Wilderness Lodge - dog poop is pretty rank!

I don't have a favorite either. I've enjoyed almost all of the resorts I've stayed at! I like them all for different reasons.

I love the Poly even though I have never stayed there, though thanks to DVC I have tried the pool and I have eaten at Ohanas and Kona cafe numerous times - all excellent food. I personally love tropical theming so the Poly is perfect for me. Only thing it lacks is the hot tub which I love because I suffer from sever back pains and hot tubs help. The water jet pumps at the rear of the main pool are nice though dont substitute a hot tub. I love the vegetation, pictures of rooms seem perfect and my favorite drink is served there - the island sunset. I love the Luau.

POLY is the only place we stay!:worship: :worship:
I love POLY for several reasons already mentioned. Love the monorail straight to MK, love the short walk to the transportation Centre, so a quick way to Epcot, POLY has great restaurants, love the big rooms, love the two pools, the beach, watch wishes from the beach, we love Hawaii and teh resort makes you feel like you are in hawaii, it is so laid back, so comfortable. Also if the resort is booked, you can't feel it.

Oh my goodness, this thread is getting me more and more excited for our stay next month! I just know my family is going to love it!

1. Transportation. You've got the Poly monorail stop, and you can walk to the TTC for a direct Epcot monorail, you also have the boat to MK or GF, and you can walk to GF. We also had excellent bus service when we were there. And if you are driving, parking is also convenient.
2. Food. Our whole family likes all the dining choices and we could eat at any of them several meals each trip. Kona, Ohana and even Captin Cooks is very good.
3. Room size and design. Large rooms sleep 5. New design provides for excellent storage, I love the closets, the shelf above the TV, and I especially love the storage in the bathroom - it is great when you actually have 5 people in the room! Especially compared to storage (or lack of storage) in the bathroom of the Contemporary.

Should I request a refurb room? Is there a big difference? We have a GV booked and the only thing I thought I would ask for at check in is a 3rd floor room. Any help would be great as this is our first time at a deluxe!!!

So excited:banana:

K in SA

Spacious rooms
Best real COFFEE!
Reminds me of home-grew up at a tahitian-themed resort.
Relaxing from the first moment you walk in
Best transportation to MK and Epcot
Everyone SMILES!!! The hospitality is genuine!
Love the restaurants.
Yes, it is 70's but then again so am I! :hippie:

I think they put something in the water over there. It's a nice hotel, I enjoy it there, but there are others that IMO are just as good or better.

But the DISers love it best. Ask them where they'd rather step in dog poop, the Poly or some other hotel, and you'll get a bunch of posts saying that the Poly dog poop just has an extra-special something over other dog poop. They'd MUCH rather step in the Poly dog poop.

Actually, is it dog poop or duck poop? Although I still maintain that I'll step in any kind of poop at the poly!!! (Say that 10 times fast - :rotfl: )

Though I've been to WDW a lot as a kid, we never stayed on site :sad1: and I always wanted to stay at the Poly. I can't add much to what other folks have said but I mainly love the Poly because it seems so peaceful. It has to be the only resort at WDW that makes me relax immediately upon arrival. As a self-admitted Type-A, this is very important. I have fun at Pop, but I can't truly relax there.

Plus there is those all-important touches like 100% Kona Coffee, Macadamia Nut Pancakes, Lilikoi juice, Lapu Lapu's, Mai Tai's, Backscratchers...okay, so there's a lot of good alcohol at the Poly! :lmao:

The place brings back childhood memories of the 70's for me. Yes, I admit I loved the 'Tiki Idol' episode of the Brady Bunch, plus an episode of my favorite childhood show, 'The Jeffersons' was showcased in Hawaii. Then again I loved Magnum P.I. but by then I was a teenager in the 80's. ;)

All of the rooms have been refurbed. There are identical in decoration and the only real difference from longhouse to longhouse is the bathrooms. Some of the buildings like Tahiti for example has two sinks, other buildings have one sink in the bathroom. Have fun :goodvibes

The Polynesian is my favorite place, but we are going back to the GF this October-hopefully it will not let me down.

The atmosphere is incredible, the torches, small winding paths and the smell are amazing. I prefer the layout to a one building hotel- you forget how big the place really is when it is more spread out. The rooms are large and beautifully decorated. It truely feels like a resort here, not just a hotel room.

Hi! I too would like to know about room requests for the Poly! I have a ressie for August but I didn't request anything specific. It will be garden view. If I should make a special request - when should I do it if I'm going in August? Thanks!! This thread is getting me so excited about our trip! One of the reasons I booked Poly is all the positive feedback. It's really hard to find anything negative about the place. If it's in the water, I want some of that!!!

I didn't stay there, but I strolled through it with my son while my wife had a massage...the peope were very kind, and I loved the resort from what I could see.

We love the theming. It's one of those things where you either like it or you don't. I could be anywhere at the Poly and just be loving life. We visit there almost every trip even if we don't stay there (to go to the Ohana Bfast). I could just meander around the lobby (upstairs and down) for an hour.

*****everything ****** You will have to try it ....I love the Tropical feel it has ....I love walking around the Grounds with all the different plants...:thumbsup2

I think this is the key point. For whatever reason, the theme just doesn't appeal to me, nor does it seem Disney-ish. I believe all the great things that people say about it, but I'm still not compelled to stay there. More room for you guys, I guess. :thumbsup2

Being from Wisconsin I think the tropical feel really appeals to me. I felt instantly relaxed when I stepped off the ME bus in front of the Poly. I love being close to my 2 favorite parks...MK & Epcot, and knowing I can get to either in mere minutes is a bonus. I love the waterfalls and tropical plants & flowers. I love the spacious rooms. I love hearing the fireworks and EWP from my room at night, and the sounds of the lagoon/marina. I love the tiki-lit pathways and romantic feel of the resort at night. I love the quiet beaches at night where I can watch the fireworks...

Dang, I think this post has just made my decision to bite the bullet and treat my parents to a trip to the Poly this fall instead of saving $$ and returning the AKL or trying a moderate. :headache: I really DO love the Poly!!!

We stayed at the Poly for the first time in September 2007 and LOVED it:love: The grounds are beautiful and the volcano pool is awesome:goodvibes The luau was alot of fun, too :cool1: :cool1: Plus the rooms are big and with 2 teenagers, the extra space is nice, not to mention having an extra bed with the daybed :thumbsup2
