Why does everyone hate sci fi?

I don't think people hate SciFi ... there is just a tendancy for those with complaints to want to post! We have eaten there a couple of times and had a good meal and a good time! Le Cellier, on the other hand ... :rotfl2:

We ate at the Scifi just last month and really enjoyed it. The food was fine and the service was excellent but the best part is the atmosphere. We're Mystery Science Theater fans so this place is perfect for us.

I just wish that we could just once sit in the front seat of a car. The families in front of us have always been nice and humorous about hitchhikers being in the back but I would love to have the experience one time.

I don't eat there because during my last meal (2 years ago) I bit into my hamburger to find a big piece of plastic paper on top of my burder mixed between the tomatoe and lettuce. After telling the server he took my plate away and returned with a new meal long after my family had finished their meal. I just couldn't eat it because I just kept thinking of where the big piece of paper/plastic had been. The paper was the entire size of the burger. While I'm sure it was just a mistake, to this day I just can't eat there without thinking about it....actually someone in my family brings it up everytime we pass the Sci Fi. And, just FYI, I had to pay for my meal too...which later I thought probably should've been comp. At least they didn't charge me for an extra topping.

Ohh, wait I didnt realize that you dont get your own car?..so if theres 5 of us does that mean there will be someone sitting next to me, that I dont know?

They won't put a stranger right next to you. The cars each have 3 rows of seats (I think), so if you are a family of 4 and take up 2 of the seats, they will put two people (hitchhikers) in the back row of your car. If your family of 5 takes up all three seats in the car then you won't have any hitchhikers in your car with you. I'm not one who likes eating with strangers, but i have no problem at Sci Fi because the rows of seats in the car are still fairly private.

We eat at SciFi every time & we love it. DH is a big SciFi fan, so he loves the movie reels. He's not a big WDW fan because he doesn't ride much due to dizziness problems, so when it's something that he likes we try to do it for him. We all really enjpy the food. The hamburgers & shakes are our favorite as we usually eat lunch there. We haven't found any counter service burgers that are this good.

We don't hate it at all. Matter of fact, it's on my kids' "must do" list for every trip. We booked well ahead of time and got a car. I think it would be a completely different (although still fun) experience, if you were seated in a "flying saucer".

Our waitress was a crank, though. We had the DDX plan and she told us more than once, "that's too much food", WHILE we were ordering. And, she threw in some sighs and hip side thrusts when we asked for shakes WITH lunch, <<<gasp!. We chalked it off to a bad day and in no way did she affect our experience at Sci-Fi. We still had a great time, despite her.

Just for some perspective, my kids also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE T-Rex. T-Rex and Sci-Fi are their favorites. I'm more of a Sanaa girl.

We tried it back in '06 and just didn't like it. As a family of 5, we had our own car. DD8 sat in the front row alone, DD3 & DD13 sat in middle while DH & I sat in the back. It just seemed so wierd to eat a meal with our family with their backs to us. I knew we would sit in cars but I hadn't thought it through. We had a super dull server who was obviously having a bad day. The food was okay, nothing special or memorable. We were just disappointed.

We have only had dinner at Sci-Fi and we just felt the menu options were lacking and we think the food we settled on was sub-par by Disney standards. The atmosphere is worth checking out once. It is pretty unique. I always suggest it is worth seeing, just not to expect too much from the food. I'm glad we checked it out, we just don't plan on going back. Maybe one day we will get there for lunch, but there is no rush for us.

It was really fun. We are really glad we went once, but it's not an experience we feel like we really need to repeat, but we would totally recommend it to people who haven't been there before, if that makes sense.

It's the same type of food as at someplace like Applebee's, marginally better quality. The food isn't exciting but there wasn't anything wrong with it either--good quality ingredients prepared properly. We're adventurous eaters so we thought it was a little boring, but it wasn't bad. I had the shrimp pasta and cheesecake, DH had the tofu and the apple crumble. We shared onion rings and they were very well done, not greasy and the onion didn't slide out when you bit it. DH also had a strawberry shake and I had a cherry Coke (real cherry Coke with cherry syrup) and they were very good.

We used to go to Sci Fi for lunch before the dining plan, and we enjoyed it. Food was good, fun atmosphere. So we liked it.

Then we went back in 09 on the dining plan and used TS credits for dinner at Sci Fi. We ordered ribs instead of burgers, and didn't enjoy them. I think the fact that we used a TS credit for dinner raised expectations a bit, or just had a negative impact. So we skipped Sci Fi for both of our trips this year, even though we no longer get the dining plan (TIW, instead!)

But when I was making ADRs for next February, our boys asked to put it back on the list. We already planned Brown Derby and 50's for other days. And we agreed that lunch at Sci Fi was pretty good! Since we're using TIW instead of the dining plan, and going for lunch instead of dinner - I think we'll like it again!

I have read so many bad reviews of Sci Fi but we tried it for lunch anyways and loved it! We just had burgers and onion rings and a reuben and it was very good

The next time we went was also for lunch, again we had burgers and it was very good.

Nothing else on the menu wowed me so that is why we stuck with burgers. It is a fun place to go to and the old time videos are a blast!

I think this is the key point.. Although the chicken has been getting some thumbs ups also. Bugers, fries / onion rings, milk shakes and reubens seem to be the 'staples' of the place. Other stuff usually seems to be hit or miss.

Anyone help me with my highchair question??? I ahve a ten month old so how/where would he be able to sit if he needs a highchair?

We enjoyed Sci-FI, nothing special but not bad. Though had I paid OOP I may have not enjoyed it so much. Good for the dining plan but nothing I would pay 75 bucks for for 2 adults and 1 child. Cool atmosphere.

If you need a highchair you will have to sit at a regular table and not the car. (unless they changed the rule recently, this is what we were told when we ate here a couple of years ago. So we just kept the baby on the seat with mom and dad and didn't use the highchair.)

The swiss and mushroom cheeseburger was good. I was disappointed in the beef and bleu salad but you will find people who like it. It's not fabulous food but it's not someplace worth "hating" either. Some folks may find it a waste of a TS credit because the food is pretty basic.

Agreed.

The cheeseburger is good but basic. Honestly we always go for the atmosphere. It's a fun place to eat in my opinion.

Nothing too special about the menu though.

My family loves the Sci FI. We usually eat there at least once a trip. My family loves the atmosphere, with the old cars and the old movies palying. The food is good, we never really had a compaint. The desserts are def the best part of the meal tho :)

It's cold. That's it...it's cold. Ice cold. One would think that in the 90+ degree Florida heat and humidity it would feel good but it doesn't. Even my kid who is never cold found it uncomfortably cold. The food was okay.

They have cars towards the back that are actually tables with chairs and they will replace the chair with the high chair. Or i have seen them put them at the end of the table while sitting in the car booths.

Hope this helps :)

We love it-must do every trip. Classic burgers and milkshakes but the kids just love the restaurant
