Why does DVC require children's ages when booking?

Are they curious?

Do they keep a census?

It shouldn't matter if you have 5 people or (3 adults and two children). So, can anyone tell me why?

Thank you.

I think it is a combination of things.

a. They like to keep track of things in their big giant data-base, which is probably used for demographic profiling and marketing.

b. At check-in they know how many cards to issue. If you child is only 2, he won't need a card because he won't need a wristband for EMH.

c. They also asked the kids' ages when making a PS. When I thought about it, I guessed it has something to do with whether or not you'll need a high chair and how many kids' menus---probably makes it faster when you check in and get seated.

Does anyone out there have any other thoughts???

I know one reason is they want to put a crib in the room if it is needed. By getting it over the phone makes them more efficienct I would think in that matter.

It also might be for security reasons. Something happens in your room and you happen to get held hostage or something crazy like that then they can tell the authorities who is in the room along with the ages.

Also because of the new MYW system. All names are required now as the new ID cards print out everyones name instead of just the reservation name. They need to know how many adults (over 18), Juniors (10-17) and Children (3-9) so that A) the names are correct on the cards (so a child that is 5 years old does not end up with an adult ID card) and B) so that the reservation is set up correctly if you decide to buy tickets. We have seen people who's reservation says 2 adults and 2 children when the "children" are teenagers and should be juniors, try and buy tickets and then have to go through the hassel of getting them voided and then having their reservation have to be changed around before they can resell the tickets, etc because the "children" were not "children"... Basically it is just to make sure that the ID cards are printed correctly for everyone in the party....

Ok I'm going out on a limb here. I think it has more to do with the whole Disney tracking and information they need down the line. Look at it this way, in 2005 you check in with your 16 year old, in 2006 he'll be 17 and then when you come in in 2007 and beyond, he'll be 18 and over. If you're checking into a NON DVC hotel where you pay the extra charge for an adult over 2 of you in a 4 room, they are going to get you for the extra $25 or so per night.

I think Disney knows that people, now I'm not going to say lie.... err stretch the truth regarding 3 year old and not paying for a ticket, they are just gathering the data that those same 2 year and 11 month year olds are not going to be 17 and 11 months for the same 2 years :lol

Anyway I think there are a lot of reasons, but this one has had to be thought of somewhere along the line.

I don't recall off hand but does the reservation system want to know the ages of the adults in the party? I didn't worry about that too much because as a DVC you are totally in the system anyway but it would bug me otherwise.

Ummm...no! If that were the case, DVC would think I had the Peter Pan syndrome...I would be eternally 21 in their system. No one has given me a single reason why I should get any older than that...So, I just decided to stop aging at 21!!!!

the WDW resort system was tricker than that.

when I made reservations for my family (including a 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 my brother's children) - guess who WDW send a 'you are coming to my house'...tooo....

they don't live with me and then I gave my address only - so I got everything -

I though that was pretty bad...

DVC, to my knowledge, does not do this.

However for future sales - WDW knows that the little ones are definitely future clients....if handled correctly! they like to do extra things for little ones.

The WDW resort system also sent things for my kids, and because I gave them my email in 2003, they send birthday emails for my kids with different characters! They must have a huge database with all this information.

When I booked my first DVC trip (for Dec 2005), they did ask the ages of my three children, but not the actual birthdays the way the WDW resort system did. They didn't ask for my email either, so I actually had to give them less info about us. Of course, I'm sure it's still all stored "somewhere". ;)

Hello, everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster, here. Hello!

I recently rented BWV points, but the owner never asked for the names and ages of people in my party. I do know the reservation number and that the reservation name has been changed to mine.

Should I be conerned? Or will a CM simply ask when I check in? (I'm hoping they'll ask, as I hate to be trouble to the owner I'm renting from.)

Out of peer pressure, I, too, will randomly insert the dancing banana icon here:

Thanks in advance, everyone!

Not to worry, they will ask you at check-in for this information. When I made my ressie last week, I told them the names of 4 parties and added that there might be more by the time of the trip, and she said to just add those when we check in, or to call earlier if we know ahead of time. She said it is because they can then pre-assign the names on the keys/ids and it will take less time at check in.
