Why does Disneyland consider kids 10 and over adults and do you think they should lower the age to be an adult 16?

Should Disneyland consider changing the age from 10 to 16 for older kids?

I have never figured out why Disneyland considers kids over 10 adults for pricing purposes and in my eyes Disneyland should lower the age to become adults to 16. Because at 10 and 12 and 13 kids are still kids but I find it shocking that children under 3 are still free and if Disneyland lowered the pricing age from 10 to 16 it would save them money

They would be raising the age if they went from 10 to 16. And they (Disney) wouldn't save money, they'd lose a lot of adult pricing.

People taking kids would save money, though.

I'm OK with 3 and under getting in for free. Think of all the money parents spend on food, souvenirs, stroller rentals... that more than makes up for not having to buy a ticket.

It's pretty standard except a lot of amusement parks do it by height. Once they hit 48inches they pay full price.

What has bothered me more is the age 10 for paying full price at characters meals and things. Although when we went when my son was 10 we would just say 2 kids and they charged kid prices. However he is 12 now and taller then me soo...

I’m fine with 10 for tickets as most kids ride everything at that age. We stop a lot of character meals at that point because there is no way they can remotely eat enough to make those worth it. I’d prefer meals be 12 or 13 and under for kids pricing.

I’m glad they don’t price by height; my son is ridiculously tall ( almost 5’ at 9) but a huge ride wimp lol. We’re taking him one last time this summer to get kids pricing for him.

I can't even get my money's worth at a character meal haha.

There is such a small price difference between kid and adult tickets I don't really worry about it.

16?! Well, since you’re from SoCal, let’s put it this way: Knott’s Berry Farms had to implement a chaperone policy requiring somebody who is 16 to accompany groups of younger “children.” Hmm, I wonder why they did this. And you think they should be paying children’s prices?!? :)

I don't have little kids anymore but do have grandchildren. 10 year old paying adult prices I think is fine for the parks. They can ride just about everything.

Meals....I am not so sure. A 10 year old paying $60 for buffet I think is a bit much. But whatever......

my kids eat like birds at buffets. at Goofy's Kitchen I paid almost $200 for our meal and my kids ate 1 strawberry and 1 chicken nugget each and that was it.

I’m amazed at the number of boys in their early teens who rival adults in height and weight (albeit generally more lean). It didn’t see that way when I was that age. Maybe it’s just an American thing! We do love our buffets although they’re getting rare.

Unpopular opinion but I would say an adult is a 16+

Until you can get a job your a kid, after that and could pay to get in then your an adult

Another one is I think kids should be free until 5.....100+ bucks for a 4 year old to me is insane...if they want to charge a little cool but over 100 bucks for someone who can't ride most attractions to me is a joke

I voted for 16 because it's older than 10, but I think 13 would be a good age to switch to adult prices. They can ride most rides and can eat enough at buffets to make the price worth it.

10 has always felt way too young because they can't do everything in the parks. I agree with @JerrodDragon89 about the free admittance until age 5, too.

Like others have said, statistically, children under 10 may not meet all the height requirements for all the attractions, hence the lower price because they can't experience as much. By the time a child is 10, most are tall enough to meet all the height requirements and can ride everything. I used to work for Disney in the parks, so this is the actual reason, not a rumor. Now should a little person pay a child's price??? I actually got called to Guest Relations one time when I was a duty manager about this, I gave the okay for the person to pay for a child's ticket. Wasn't going to argue over a few dollars. Surprisingly I never had to deal with the parents of a short 10 year old (or older)! Most guests don't realize this is the reason the ticket is less.

Well at 4 years old my daughter was tall enough for the mountains (except Matterhorn) and space mtn was her favorite!
She got our moneys worth with how many times she rode! Ha ha

Disney use to sell kids, junior and adult tickets. I don’t remember what age junior started but it went through 17. Of course, 2 and under were free. I was a small kid and can remember being 4 (maybe even into 5) and being pushed in a stroller into the park for free. Also eating at the Hoop-De-Doo as a 4 or 5yo and insisting to the waitress I was two!

I believe that was just for restaurants, all you care to eat locations. I think I remember HDD & the Luau having a junior category. More than a child, but less than adult due to not being old enough for the unlimited alcoholic beverages that are/were included. Could have been tickets, too, though I can’t recall that.
