Why does an infant have to count as a whole person?!

I can get a CRT reservation for a party of 4, but not a party of 5. Why can't the 2 year old and the infant each count as half a person ;-) I can even strap the infant to me and call it extra weight :rotfl:

(Not a serious question...but more of a light rant)

I believe it has something to do with occupancy, not infancy. :lmao:

Seriously though, I understand that the reservationist cannot give you a table unless there is a 5-top or 6-top available. When I went in Dec, I had the opposite experience. I could book for 4 people, but not 3 at Le Cellier.

Now that makes even less sense ;-)

Ah yes... Just wait.. Families of 5 (and above) we have a harder time making reservations, booking hotels, renting cars....

They are regarded as a person for a couple reasons. The first is occupancy of the restaurant and the other is if the child needs to remain in a stroller or nees a high chair they need to know so an appropriate table can be assigned since strollers and high chairs at most restaurants cannot just be placed at any table.

It always irked me when I was a CM to have a person check in and say there are 4 people in the party but when they are seated there are 4 adults and 3 kids with them. Then they would get mad at us but hey...if we don't know about the kids we can't put you at an appropriate table.

You would need a t able for five. Even though the two year old and the infant will be free of charge, there has to be room for them somewhere. Unless you were planning on them sitting on people's lap for the entire meal.

I can understand this quite well. When we go to a restaurant with our grandson, he probably needs more room at the table than an adult. When he's in his carrier, he needs at least a chair or an upside door wooden high chair for him. And then the carrier doesn't fit into the space a normal adult and a chair would. Now that he's in a high chair, we always give the number of adults and then add "one high chair" to the seating.

I got CRT at lunch for a party of 5. (one is a 2 yr old) Have you tried different days or meals? ie lunch instead of dinner or vice versa?

aha.....and add an extra kid to make a family of six and you just might be tempted to list your first born on ebay in order to fund the trip;) The previous statement is, of course, NOT serious. (although I have, at times been tempted to list her on ebay -- or at list sell her attitude;) )

I totally agree with this...I was a hostess quite a few years ago at a restaurant (here in NY though, not in Disney)...can't even begin to tell you how many times when we had a wait list, that a peerson would ask for a table for 2, only for us to bring them to a 2-top little booth, and find out they had 4 kids with them! And no, I am not exaggerating...and yes the customers would yell at us that the table was way too small, but never told us they needed a table for 6! This happens a lot, and these days when I make dining reservations anywhere, I do notice that when I mention we need a highchair the person on the phone usually asks me if the highchair is included in the whole party or is in addition to the total number of guests I originally said. Of course I always include the highchair in the total number of people anyway!

I waitress in a very small (13 tables total) little diner like place. I actually get those questions a lot. Where I work, we cannot put a highchair at the end of any of the tables because of the way the tables and pathways are. So if a party of 4 plus a baby that needs a highchair comes in, they have to wait for 2 tables I can push together or hold the baby the whole time. I know you are half joking but for us it comes down to placement.

I called for CRT exactly 180 out first thing in the morning and nothing for 5 for breakfast. The CM (who was great!) explained that it's hard to get a table of 5. Which makes sense, a family of 5 would have to sit at a six top. They would rather fill the six top with another paying customer.

I was able to get in for lunch, but finding out that seating an odd numbered party can be difficult makes me wonder... would be easier to have another child?:rotfl2:

Oh...I've found that out!! During the time span I will be there...they have multiple openings for parties of 6, but nothing open for a party of 5. I've been whining about that for days to anyone who will listen.

I lend you one of mine and give up my CRT ressies. I completely understand why it is easy to get a table for six - adding that fourth child will cost an arm, a leg and anything else you have to spare :O)

This happened to me last year. At the time, my youngest was 5 mos and not sitting up yet, so he wouldn't even need a high chair. The CM suggested I take the ADR for 4 and then wear the baby in a carrier. I did this and when we checked in at the podium, I explained that we had an ADR for 4 and the baby would be in the carrier. We had no problems. It might be different with a 2 yr old though since a 2 yr old would actually take up room at the table.

It's so funny that you should say that. When DS6 was going through the terrible two's (which started at age 1 and went until age 4  ), DH and I used to refer to him as "eBay" because there were days where the thought of listing him there was enticing. ;)

I also have an infant though....he's probably be more accomodating to sitting in carrier over the almost 3 year old. ;-)

That is a great story! Our pediatrician warned us about the terrible "onery 1s, terrible 2s, and tiresome 3s." ;- )

So, could you just do what I did and get an ADR for 4 and then wear the baby?

I wish someone had warned me! DD is 2 yrs older than DS and never went through terrible two's, or any of that. She was a piece of cake, so I think that's what I was expecting when DS came along. WRONG!!!!! Oh well, we got through it and now we'll wait to see what the tween and teen years bring. With my luck, DD will be displaying her tween attitude at the same time that the baby is starting the terrible two's. :rotfl: It's a good thing they're cute!

ahhhhh. i've wondered (but never actually questioned) why, when i would make an ADR for 2 adults, i am always asked, "how many children?".
i just assumed (& we know where that gets you  ) that ppl would always say the amount of adults & chidren at the onset (since, last i heard, children are people, too :) ).
