Why Does ABC Commissary Have a Bad Rep?

I have read on here that not a lot of people like ABC Commissary. We ate there yesterday. Four of us, three had the fish and chips and one had the chicken cordon bleu sandwich. It was actually pretty good. We were reluctant to go there based on reviews but were quite suprised. It stacks up well against any other counter service I can think of.

Iirc, we liked it too for the choices and the nice seating. We were not on the dining plan, though.
I am guessing because the kids menu only has nuggets?

I've eaten here also and have not found anything wrong with the food. It is the same type menu that is all the CS places present. I like eating here on a hot day because it is the only CS in DHS that is indoors with AC! But for everyone of us that praises a resturant, there is someone the an opinion saying they dislike the place! That's why we have the DIS!

I've been a defender of ABC over the years, but I'm done with this place. The took the Cuban off the menu & didn't replace it with anything as far as I can tell. Yesterday DW & I had cheeseburgers which were lukewarm, as were the fries. They had limp lettuce & tomatoeswhich were half green. DD20 had the curry, which was unlike any curry we'd ever had-it was like a porridge with a little bit of chicken on a bunch of lukewarm rice. DS had the fish, which he liked. Dessert was chocolate mousse or yogurt parfait, both of which were your standard QS pre-made desserts.

Fewer selections, prepared poorly & served lukewarm-I thought I was @ Six Flags. :) We'll eat @ Studio Catering or Backlot Express from now on.

We had breakfast there on our last trip and it wasn't good. The quality of food was on par with McDonalds breakfast. We should have stuck with our usual and gotten a muffin or bagel at the bakery. We won't go back.

We ate there in September and the kids and I were fine, but my wife was sick the next morning. I think she got some food poisoning from the Cordon Bleu sandwich. We basically lost a whole day trying to get her feeling better. :confused3

I don't have kids and I think it deserves the reputation.

It's not the only indoor CS at DHS. Part of Backlot Express (the place near Star Tours) is indoors.

We liked the fact that ABC was indoors. Our food was hot and good. We weren't disappointed as far as Disney counter service goes.

Is the part of Backlot Express that is indoors air conditioned or is it just covered?

I am with you on this one. We LOVED ABC Commissary when they had noodle bowls with vegetables for the kids. Then those went away. Then the Cuban (my favorite) went away. They used to offer some really different things that you could find no where else in WDW.

Now it is the same cardboard bun cheeseburger with cold fries that you can get in every other eatery in WDW. So very, very sad what they have done to some places such as this. :sad2:

Agreed 100%.

The last two times I ate there it was awful. I won't go back.

At one time they really had some tasty and different things.
This is unrelated to the OPs comments, I'm glad they enjoyed their meal, but in the end I feel like those of us who want consistently decent quality food should just go away.
Disney does not want us and I feel most of the Disney uberfans would prefer if we go away also.

on my DHS day in Feb, I finally tried this place. I noticed from the start folks just standing and staring at the menu, and i too did the same. Not a lot of choices in my opinion, and the food was only fair.
so- i gave the place a C-. and in two weeks, will not return.

it was a nice space, well lit, and good ventilation,. yet if someone could really put an effort into this place it would shine.........

We have eaten there twice. The first time was horrible--cheeseburgers were lukewarm and the buns were rock hard. We thought it might have been a fluke, so our next trip we tried it again with the same results. Our kids didn't mind it though.

Well I'm one of the people who really did not like ABC commissary. BUT that being said, I totally appreciate the fact that reviews and heresay are just that. I can't count the number of times something has been put down or badmouthed at Disney that I actually really like.

to each their own...

I always used to get the Cuban here, and haven't been back since it was taken off the menu---not "on purpose", just haven't made it back. The curry was okay, though a little light on the chicken.

My wife had her worst WDW burger ever here. Ever. And, that's saying a *lot*.

We ignored the advice and decided to try it. "How bad could it be?" we thought. Well, it was terrible! I can't remember what we ordered, but we all had a very bad meal here. We won't go back!

My sis and I ate here this past spring break, and it was by far the worst meal either of us has ever had at WDW (so far). She had a burger and I think I had the chicken sandwich. I usually don't say anything negative about any of the food around the World, and I am usually pretty forgiving if something is not quite right, but this food was NOT good. We ate here on the last night of our trip and we both decided that it was not a good way to end. So, we made it a point to eat lunch at MK the next day before we left.

Whenever my family and I are at Hollywood Studios and plan on eating counter service we always go to the ABC Commissary and never found anything wrong with it's location or their food. Now I guess people have their own reasons for not liking it which is their right, so I guess that means less of a line for the people who do like to eat there.
