Why do you think people like to be side line mockers instead of ....

front line doers? It seems there are so many people who love to sit on the sidelines and point out what other people are doing wrong. Or how they have the perfect solution for something. But these same people who love to complain never put themselves out there?

Is it simply because it is easier to sit on the side and complain?

Yep. A solution usually involves some type of work and risk. It involves taking a chance that your idea might not work and you'll have to start over. humans tend to want easy, quick and cheap. The old adages "any thing worth having is worth waiting for" or "hard work has it's on reward" have fallen by the way side.

We can't all do everything.

There are some organizations where I volunteer and change what I can. Dh and I have a running joke that goes "The problem with _____ is that it's run by people like us."

There are other organizations that I support in some ways, but yes, I disagree with how things are done, but there simply aren't enough hours in the day to be involved with everything.

And there are some organizations that aren't open to input in the least.

Exactly.

You do what you can and what you are good at. That doesn't mean you are blind to screw ups in those other things, though.

I do a lot of volunteer things, but the reality is that I can't do EVERYTHING. Not everyone has the time to help, but that doesn't mean that they aren't entitled to have an opinion or offer suggestions.

If there are complaints about how something is being done, the commitee or whoever is doing it should take the time to listen, often the people complaining have a valid point. Maybe they feel their opinion isn't going to be listened to and therefore they refuse to get involved.

I belong to one organization and one of the people who is in a specific position complains that no one is willing to help her. People grumble about the way she is doing things. I volunteered to help her (after being asked by another officer), but she won't even let me help...her way or the highway. Sometimes people have been doing something for so long they aren't open to other options, and that makes the other people in the organization complain and refuse to help. Maybe this is the case in your situation? Just something to think about.
