Why do you live where you live?

Air Force dropped us here. Didn't plan to stay but now we're retired here with 9 grandkids. The state is finally becoming more tax friendly for retired military and social security so maybe we'll just continue to go away in the winter.

Lots of sun for sad days, a year round heated pool in my backyard for exercise, loads of outdoor recreation and beaches.

Clean air, low crime, mountains and lakes, people here respect what they have and always willing to help others, not a big population, no traffic jams, four seasons, not a big threat of severe weather and thank goodness not awful hot! No billboards, family here, waking up every day living on a lake and every night watching the sun go down.

Because we've never left. :) We may snowbird someday to avoid the gray winters; but, this town will always be home.

The biggest reason is that it's near DH's family. After college, we wanted to be near one family or the other, and the jobs were way better here, so we picked his. Now, his parents are getting older, and we want to be around to help if needed.

But I do also really like the area - it's easy to get into Boston, less than an hour from the beach, and I feel like I fit in with the culture here.

Because it is home, and has been for almost 65 years.
:goodvibes This, totally. I left my remote rural hometown to seek my fortunes in the big city at 19. There was tremendous excitement about the 88 Olympics being hosted here and I wanted to be in the heart of the action. :cloud9: I decided it would be “home” and made it so. I settled in and grew my career, met and married DH and raised our son and we built our entire lives around church, community and friends while maintaining family ties with those far away.

We’ve never had any thoughts of living anywhere else and likely never will. Our DS has the distinction of being a born-and-bred Calgarian, which is sort of rare for a place where it seems almost everybody has come from away.

Lived in Georgia 58 of my 62 years. Ended up where we are at in 98 because of Lake Allatoona and the small downtown feel reminded me a lot of where I grew up.

Stuck in Yuma AZ, the hottest place in the country! The Marine Corps, even after 20 years of service does not care that I want to be near a beach =)

This is the closest area to dh's work that we could afford. Hate it here, can't wait until he retires so we can pack our bags and leave

It is a very inexpensive area to live in, Western PA. I originally moved there for a job which fizzled out 6 years later and I had to find work away from home, D.C., in my case. I stay in D.C. during the week and go back to PA on weekends. The problem with buying anything in the D.C. area is that it would 4 to 5 times the cost, and don't want to do something like that 2 or so years out from retirement.

DH's grandfather owned quite a bit of land - it was passed on down and divided up - so we built on the lot that was sectioned off for DH. He didn't want to leave the area as he owned a business with FIL at the time we were married. Things have since changed but my parents aren't far away either so we will stay to keep the property in his family. Now what we had farmed on our land has been turned back into a natural wetlands under a federal program so I honestly enjoy the wildlife we see in our own backyard. I just could do without the cold winters

We live in the town where my husband grew up. He never wants to move from it. Luckily, I like it here. LOL Since our house is paid off, and we bought a ranch style thinking of the future, I doubt we will ever even move houses in the same town.
