Why do you live where you do?

Where ever the ARMY sends us :)

~Katie

Started out in Syracuse, NY. Dad got transferred to Boston when I was 6yo! Lived in Beantown my whole life...met DH in Beantown...married in Beantown...had one DS in Beantown and then DH started getting transferred all over the country with CONRAIL. NJ (had DS#2), PA, OH, MI, and we decided ENOUGH already...DH left CONRAIL and we relocated back to MA to be near family and the rest is HISTORY. Been back in MA since 1990!!!

BUT BUT BUT...I want to go to Florida. As I get older, I am not liking the winters here so much anymore. DH and I are looking for a home in the Tampa area to buy for our winter months!!!! :sunny:

:woohoo: :dance3: :yay: :woohoo: :dance3: :yay: :woohoo: :dance3: :yay:

I grew up here, my family is here, but more importantly (at this point in life), my job is here. I'm also in the process of buying a house.

I wouldn't mind moving, though. I've lived on the West Coast all my life (minus a brief stint in Ohio for college) and have always wanted to live on the East Coast. I have to be near water, though! No mid-West for me!

My husband's job is here. We do like it here, though, so it could make it tough to move if the opportunity presented itself. DS is an 8th grader and very settled, so he would be hard to move. :sunny:

Basicly grew up here. Family is here. Other than that. We are about 1 1/2 hrs form the coast, 1 1/2 hrs form the mountains, and not far from a bigger city for serious shopping. Nice weather, too.

Lived in a lot of places: MI, KS, IL, IN, LA, KY, now in Austin as my son persuaded me to join him here 11 years ago. It is nice - lots to do, lots of music, but very suburban lifestyle and I like big cities a lot. I was just thinking about moving to Europe for a year or two or maybe NYC or Seattle area when DS and DDIL had the most wonderful baby girl in the world. I fell in love and now can't imagine spending more than a couple of weeks at a time once or twice a year without seeing her. They let me babysit once a week and we get together at least another day a week. I am in heaven - doesn't matter where I live now as long as it is close to that little girl. Thank goodness it is somewhere fun and warm!

I can't seem to get my dh out of here. Any suggestions? I would love to be anywhere than where I am now. I was born here and have always lived here. He likes the rural part of the world where we are. The middle of nowhere is what I think about it. Maybe one day!
Funny, I would love to move to someplace rural. I hate the city.

We're in Virginia because of me. I am back in college and plan to get my degree in finance and then apply to William and Mary, U of WA, or Seattle U law schools. I am from Hawaii and lived in Seattle for 11 years. I would not mind moving back more west, but I want to finish my degree first.

Dh works in Baltimore. He commutes home on weekends. It's been like this since 1998. I hate it so I am hurrying up so we can live together fulltime. He is not able to get a job closer because his job is very specialized and he is tops in his field. There is nothing here that pays him for what he is worth. It sucks, though. lol

I know if I pick up and move again that I will never finish, though, so it is hard. Ah, sacrifices!

Both DH and I have lived in NJ our whole lives. Our kids, parents and siblings along with the rest of our large extended families are here. We are close to the city and shore so it's convenient. The only thing I don't like is the winters could easily do without the cold. When we retire we plan to spend the winters in Florida. I've got at least 10 more winters to get through.

My dad retired from the Navy when I was in H.S. and moved us here near his hometown. I hated it too small, rural boring etc. I moved away for several years then came back to visit family met and married my husband and now can't imagine my kids going to school anywhere else!

I grew up here, DH was raised in the North. The reason we are here is $$$. DH is in IT. Houston pays well vs. the cost of living. He has been offered jobs in other parts of the country but the pay raise wasn't enough to cover the higher cost of living. Plus if we moved, every vacation would have to be in Houston to see family. We like to take every vacation at Disney World. :goodvibes

Because DW grew up here!

I was born and raised in CA. But during college, I met DW, who was from IL. Since when I graduated college I would be looking for a job, yet she already had a job, it made sense for me to move instead of her. So we ended up here in IL.

I'm glad we did end up here. I'd like to move to another state some time, but it's nice here. Plus, I'm glad I got out of CA. I was so provincial back then, like a lot of folks from big population centers. You start believing the hype that whatever city you live in/near is the best at X, or has the worst politicians ever, or whatever. But after I moved, I realized it's all pretty much the same everywhere. People are people, and do peopleish things no matter where they are.

The main reason is because my ex-husband won't let me leave. Guess he doesn't want me taking our daughter thousands of miles away. :rolleyes1

Only 12 1/2 more years until she's 18. ;)

Because Hubby wanted to go to school at the University of Minnesota. Only ~two years left.

Just two more years...

We are here in NY because of DH job and we hate it, we also have no desire to go back to NJ where we both grew up. Both are families are deceased and what little relatives we have there really arent close with us. We are working on planning to retire early to Texas where DH spent some time working. We love it there. Hopefully that will take place in the next 5 years if all goes well. We told our 3 ds they are welcome to join us there or go anywhere they want but we will probably sell the house here unless they want to buy it etc.

We live here because of DH's job. It's ok. DH LOVES it... I don't know yet. I miss the seasons already but I know I won't miss the LONG winters but I will miss the cold and the snow for a at least a little while. He isn't willing to move all the way back up North to either MA or IL. however we will probably compromise with NC, SC, GA, TN or KY eventually. We are leaning towards GA or NC as he is technology software and the markets there are growing!

TX was at one point an option but I don't think i am interested anymore! I'd move back NORTH if I could...I'd love to check out MN and CO.

We live were we do because I grew up in this area. My Mom and Dad live about 30 min away and my brother is a hop away. I always said I would never live here once I was on my own. I guess that one jumped up and bit me in the butt.. :confused3 But its a nice area and a great place for kids.
