Why do you live where you do?

Because I love New Orleans. It's a very unique and special place. And it's got really great food!

Two of our last moves were due to DH's position within the federal govt.

Husband's job. We have no family here at all. When he retires we hope to move back to where my family is. But that could change because the kids grew up here and probably wouldn't want to move.

I could've written the exact same thing.

I'm a Southern guy - Virginia is a great place to live in terms of climate, schools, economy, and family values. It's a great state! :thumbsup2

Close to family and DH's job. The only reasons we aren't living in Orlando. ;)

Both DH and I were born and raised in Maine. Moved to this town for choice of high school for our oldest DS and for youngest DS to have access to good Special ed services. I would love to live somewhere warm, preferably within driving distance to Disney. I do have to admit that I love fall here, but hate winter. Lori

I can sympathize with all of you who have no family nearby. We lived in NY state for 13 years and just moved back"home" to be in the same town we grew up in and where our families are. It was really hard to be away from family and we never felt like we fit in to the area (1 1/2 hrs. from NYC). I guess we are just country people.
My husband left a really good job and we left a new home to come here. My children love it and it is nice to have free babysitting. I hope we never have to move. Although, we plan on spending our winters in FL after we retire!

DH got a job offer Aug 1981, 4 months after our wedding. He said, "Hey, you wanna move to Georgia. We have to be there in 4 days". "Sure" said I.

And the rest is history

What Muffin said.

It's where we grew up. Our extended family is here, for the most part. My parents are getting elderly, so they are coming into the years where they will need us, and we want to be close by. DH's parents have passed away already, and they lived close by too, so it was very convenient for us to help them. I like New England in general...like the weather, the change of seasons, the holidays just seem "right" here. We'll probably always have a place of some sort here, and maybe one in the South to get away from the winter as we get older and it gets harder to tolerate.

I can't seem to get my dh out of here. Any suggestions? I would love to be anywhere than where I am now. I was born here and have always lived here. He likes the rural part of the world where we are. The middle of nowhere is what I think about it. Maybe one day!

It's what I can afford. I've lived here almost 20 years and the mortgage is low.
I would love to move, but that will happen some day.

because we worked our butts off to get transferred. it took a couple of years and jumps through hoops.

and because Illinois isn't a place I would wish on my worst enemy.

We are here because of my job. I interviewed all over the nation and this job was the perfect fit for me and the best place for us. We LOVE living here and hope to stay awhile =)

Moved back here to this little Eastern Ky town 17 yrs ago because my DH was homesick (we were living in San Antonio, TX). Now we are stuck until my youngest DS graduates in 4 yrs. I'm hoping and praying to move to Florida, however, I am weighing out my options considering I finally have a really good job with great benefits. I don't think we will stay right here but may move closer to my work which would put us in a little bigger town but with the same low house prices.

Well I have lived in:

Queens, New York-I was born and raised there. Love it but you need a lot of money to live in the city now.
Baltimore, MD-Went to college there. Really great city close to DC, Penn and VA.
Massachusetts-Met DH and moved there. Was there for 10 years. Loved it but the houses were too expensive and we did not love the winters-too long. DH was born and raised in MA.
Florida-Love the weather even though the sun this summer has been brutal. Have been here 2 years next month. We have a condo and don't think we will buy a house here. The insurance, taxes and electric have all gone crazy and people are leaving in droves. It is wonderful being close to WDW but the job situation stinks right now.
Next-???

I live in CO because both my wife and I (probably more me) are afraid to packup and move to where we really want to live. We have excuses all the time like family (which we arent terribly close with) or jobs (I work in IT and although I am very good, I hear IT in Cali is pretty bad right now) or you get the idea.

I cant say I hate Colorado, but life here is hollow for me.

the only reason i live here is my parents. they have both had health problems and i just can't leave.

DH and I both grew up here. We both have good jobs. We have a very nice home on a 400 acre family farm, so we don't have to worry about anyone moving in too close. Good school district. We live within 10 miles of DH's parents, my parents, and our siblings.

We do plan to buy a second home in East Tennesse, maybe we'll eventually spend 1/2 of our time there and 1/2 here...but that's quite a few years down the road.

The military told us to. Seriously, this place was #9 on our list and when we were told where we were going, we both asked, "Where's that?" Luckily we like it a lot! The only thing missing is my family - if I could pick up the town and the base and relocate it on the East Coast, I would.
