WHY do you like fine dining in Disney?

My wife and I are constantly surprised and delighted with the superb quality of the Disney fine dining experience. We've had a few duds over the years but we have a few places we consistantly enjoy.

We also enjoy the "smoke free" environment...coming from rural North Carolina where smoky restaurants are the norm.

We also feel good about the cleanliness of the Disney restaurants...especially after driving down I-95 to get to WDW and finding that most restaurants aren't the cleanest.

And of course we usually receive excellent service!

We too are from rural North Carolina, tobacco country! I actually know where King is. We live in Davie County, just West of Winston-Salem. It's so nice to arrive at the Disney restaurant and not have to say "non-smoking please." It's so miserable eating out in NC. Even in the non-smoking section the smoke wafts its way over. There are people who will walk through the non-smoking section with their lit cigarette. That drives my DH wild.

But, on a more positive note. We too are foodies and enjoy the fine dining experience of many of the Disney restaurants. Although, we've noticed the quality has gone down over the past couple of years at some of the places we use to frequent. We love Blue Zoo, California Grille, Narcoosee's to name a few.

I enjoy eating out. It is more or less my "recreation". Won't get into whether or not Disney's dining is "fine", because I'm not sure what it means to others.
But for me--I like the food at WDW and I like the restaurants (and going to the wonderful Disney resorts where they are located). Most of our trip time these days revolves around where we are going to eat. We've always been pleased with our meals at WDW and can really count on one hand all the "bad meals" we've had since 1975.

I guess you haven't dined out in NY lately. My husband and I had dinner at a four star and four diamond rated restaurant in a NYC suburb about a month ago, and they totally messed up our meal. They literally forgot to take my order! We were trying to grab the server, he kept ignoring us, and then my husbands entree was brought out, and I told him to start eating--and still hadn't placed my order. What a kerfuffle! Our dinner bill was much higher than what we would have paid for a comparable meal (only in the quantity and quality of food) at WDW.

As far as the standard of service equating to fine dining at WDW, it truly depends on your server. There are a very few at certain WDW restaurants that offer an exceptionally polished service equivelent to any in any world-class restaurant. Regretfully there aren't enough like them.

We live 20 minutes from Manhattan and dine there frequently - and everything else NYC has to offer. We never have had that happen to us anywhere. in any town including the remotest of caribbean islands. It sounds like you had an inexperienced server. I feel your pain with a high bill and terrible service...really not fair. did you speak to the Manager? I certainly would have. Since I do not know where you dined in Manhattan, I cannot comment. Next time you go to NYC, I always recommend going to this site www.newyorkmetro.com it is up to date and will give you an idea of what to expect.

While I do enjoy the restaurants at WDW, I would not call it the Mecca of dining. I do love the fact that you can go from shorts, sneakers and rollercoasters to the refined elegance of V&A's in the matter of a few hours without getting in a car!

V&A's is always a wonderful meal and lives up to the hype. Always look forward to it..
