Why do you have more than one DVC home resort?

Is it correct that you can only book (with home resort booking advantage) the amount of points you have available for that particular resort?

For instance, if I bought 100 AKV and 150 Boardwalk, and had only the one year's points available, I could call for an AKV reservation at 11 months out but they would only allow me to use up to the 100 AKV points? Then at 7 months out I could call back and try to use my 150 (Boardwalk) points to book AKV?

YES, that is correct.

BWV for BW view and location and option of point-saving standard rooms. OKW for 11 month booking of GV (much fewer points for GV at OKW than other resorts).

We originally bought resale at OKW with the intention of using DVC for vacations for three families (mine and my two adult daughters'). We could have gotten by with the number of points we bought, but our first trip was in an OKW two bedroom! When we saw that, we knew our vacations would be much better if we had enough points for 1-2 bedrooms.

A few months later, an incentive came up with SSR for $83 with 100 free points, so we took that and added 120 points. The financial benefit of that deal was what caused us to buy a different resort although SSR has become my daughters' favorite resort, along with VWL. We still prefer OKW. If that hadn't come up, we probably would have bought another OKW contract resale.

I am about to take the plunge and get my first DVC contract (undecided on the home resort thus far),

You are wise giving this great thought.

Please tell me why you bought more than one contract....

Did you not have enough points to take the kind of vacations you wanted to? Were you not able to easily book a resort you loved, and decided to add another contract to your portfolio to book early? Did you start booking some non-Disney resorts and found it to be a good way to take ALL your vacations? Is it just a bit addictive to own a piece of each?

We purchased a contract through Disney what they were selling at the time, BCV. We found the boards at the time and did realize home resort advantatge was important, but may not have realized how easy it is to purchase resale. For us with 15 years of traveling during school holidays ahead, home resort was and proved to be important.

While the first contract is more then enough points for us, we missed our beach vacations and loved our stay at VB. We purchased a contract there so we could have a Beach Cottage every other year for 5 nights. So, to answer your question, we were not able to book the accommodations (room type) we wanted and purchased a contract at the resort.

If I was to purchase today I would have purchased two smaller WDW DVC contracts (Instead of our larger BCV) and do what Granny does with alternating years. I keep changing my mind which resorts I would choose. BCV or BWV would be one, but which? Then VWL? or AKV? or wait for CRV??

We bought OKW a LONG time ago when DVC was first offered.

We then purchased VWL to have the Home Resort advantage around the holidays, and finally AKV because we love the resort.

Now if DVC ever offers the PV we will have to have a fourth!!!!!

My initial purchase was at OKW which was the only resort offered way back when I bought.

BWV came along, and I was tempted but held off. Next, I found a Vero Beach resale that was just too fabulous to pass up. I often use my Vero points for DCL cruises, but have stayed at the Beach House there also.

I tried for 3 years in a row to book at BWV early December, and never could at the 7 month window. The wait list was fruitless for me also. So I went and picked up some BWV points. Now I can have my early December visits..

Lastly, I purchased BCV when I was on board the first DVC member cruise. The incentives were fabulous and I have never regretted it.

Oh and when I married my husband, he came with BWV points as well, LOL! So we now have 1020 points all together.

She tried to get them without me, but I said she wasn't getting my points unless she took me also! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Basically I think it's been summed up but my reasons are 11 month window for"
1. VWL smallest resort and hard to get, especially in Dec.
2. BWV for Boardwalk view. This is my favorite view of all.
3. BeachClub Villas. I tried and tried at the 7 month window and could not get a reservation, so...
4. AKV's this was our favorite hotel as AKL, it almost keep me from becoming a DVC member to start with. I am thrilled that it is now DVC, especially with Concierge and 2 bedrooms that sleep 9.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. My husband said, "No More!" :confused3

Ditto here!

We bought 165 pts at SSR because we thought we'd be going once every two years and that gave us the right number of points. Of course, we wanted to go more often after the very first stay and the BW is my favorite area, so we grabbed a resale there for 150 pts. While talking to my guide about the Friends and Family promotion (SOOOOO tempting) I decided against it but couldn't resist asking about more points at BWV. Points in our UY were available and we sealed the deal for 50 more points. Then AKV was announced -- our most favorite resort with our favorite restaurant, Boma -- and I couldn't resist taking 100 pts. We have plenty of points (I suppose...sigh) but I'd be thrilled if I could afford some at every resort! Never a problem spending them! LOL
