WHY do they make plastic packaging so hard to open??

UGH! I can't stand it when they make the molded plastic packaging so hard to open; My scissors are never strong enough to cut through and I hate using a knife, not to mention it is hard to do anyway.

I end up basically shredding the thing and my hands hurt afterwards... why can't they make some starter area that would make it easier to open? You know, like on gum or snack packages.

OMG I'm so glad it's not just me!! It's practically impossible to open moulded plastic packaging these days! Surely there must be a better alternative? What was wrong with the cardboard-ish backed packages?? Honestly, I often feel like I'm living in a childproof world and I'm the only kid - how do everyone else open the soddin' things?

I also shred it to peaces, the sad things is if it isn't the right thing and I have to return it it loocks like it had been through world war 3. Some things are just childproof which means adults can't get at it either.

LOL. Thats OK. My mom buys these apples from Costco. They are already sliced and in individual bags. I could never open those darn things and I brought them for lunch, so I didn't have any scissors or anything handy. I spent about 5 minutes trying to open it every day. By time I got them open, I wasn't hungry anymore. LOL. So one day, after trying to open that darn bag for like 5 minutes, I stopped to stare at it. (Maybe I could will it open with my glare ). I start laughing hysterically (thats nothing unusual for me at lunch, but my one friend turned to look at me and I showed her the bag. In the top left corner, TEAR HERE was written in bold black lettering. *whacks forhead*DUH* My friend laughed at me and her boyfriend just stared at us like we were idiots (he does that all the time, one of these days we're going to scare him away and he will never come back.)

Some things are just childproof which means adults can't get at it either.

Aah, I reckon a three year old might well take that packaging apart in ten seconds flat! Mind you, I haven't got a three year old to prove my point but still, in my experience "childproof" usually means "adults will have a fun time figuring it out"...whereas kids

There was recently an article about this in the local paper (Phila. Inquirer - you can probably find it online). Reasons given were:
1. Prevents theft
2. Keeps the item safe during shipping from overseas.
3. Along with #2, keeps the item in display-ready condition after shipping.

I believe they said there are about 200,000 injuries per year due to packaging.

well..i wanted to show it disney and i kinda took it on dumbo and on the way down...it flew out...so then i just left it there ( i didnt want to look like a bad parent...)

It's become tradition on CHristmas Day for my SIL and I to compare finger inuries due to opening all the kids's toys Christmas morning!!! Between the molded plastic, the twist ties, and the other plastic, uncuttable fasteners it's lucky the ERs aren't full of frustrated, bleeding parents on Christmas morn!!!
