Why do they do that?

I had a friend who did this all the time but STILL got dings. She nearly lost her mind about it! It's a CAR people! It's out on the street with lots of other people and it WILL get touched! :lmao:

True, it is just a car. But i know for me personally, every car I have ever had, I have taken pride in that it looked nice. My car is going on 7 years old, garage kept, it looks like a new car. My father actually bought it for me before he died, so it was his last gift to me.

I have 1 ding on it-my DD's 12friend was on her bike, decided to be funny and was leaning the bike towards the car. I was like, um, get the bike away from the car I can tell where this is going it was a holiday and I am cursed with bad holidays and things going crazy wrong. She leaned over to talk and lost grip of the bike. bike handlebars scratched the car. Ironically is right after I got it out of the shop after being t boned on a previous holiday.

Yup, it's just a car people. JUST A CAR! It might be a car that someone purchased for $500, painstakingly put 4 years worth of love into fixing it up, the last year being the hundreds of hours of hand color sanding of the paintwork. The car is now worth $25,000, but hey, it's just a stupid car. Nothing to worry so much about the idiots shoving their empty cars around in the parking lots and other irresponsible people slamming their doors open with no regard to the car next to it. It doesn't matter that it is the 2nd most expensive thing most people own after the house, sometimes the most expensive in the case of renters.

Some don't realize how much is spent on cars over a period of time. And the cost of the two can be close.

And they deserve the right to not have their "just a car" banged up either. I so agree with you:thumbsup2

I bought our vehicle brand new 2 years ago (the dealership just sent me a "congrats on your 2 year anniversary" email ) and I had it a year and a half before I got a paint scrape on it (from someone else opening their door into my vehicle) and I'll admit it ~ it made me angry and upset.

It still irritates me to see that white paint scrape on my navy blue door. Some people take pride in their belongings and want them looking nice for as long as possible.

My thoughts are though....if you park like that (like an idiot) than I think it's like asking to get hit. I mean you're sending out this vibe that your truck is better than everyone elses, so if you park like this...everyone will take notice and then make sure they back off. I personally, think just the opposite....when I see a vehicle parked like that, I think to myself...."what a *******, who do they think they are, they're no better than anyone else!!!" I mean, it's not that I would purposely hit/nick/bang up against a car parked like this but I just don't like the fact that people act this way.

:thumbsup2 I totally agree!

There is a big difference between taking care of your car by trying to keep it clean and free of dings and parking parallel across 3 spots in the far end of the parking lot.

I don't want door dings or scratches either but they will happen and in the end the car is just an object which will be replaced every 5 or so years by most people.

I think there are two different conversations going on here - some people are talking about parking far away, but within the lines, and others are talking about taking up more than one space.

True. But then someone mentioned parking far away and between the lines but then getting upset and even keying a car that parks next to them but also within the lines (though off center). I can't believe anyone over the age of about 14 would key a car. Once you are old enough to know the value of property I couldn't imagine vandalizing someone else's. They probably still turf lawns and egg houses, it is the same mentality.

When I drove a small car, it was a giant SUV magnet. I realize that those who drive those monsters would see extra space and park next to me but it was murder backing out!

By the way, I can't believe that someone would key a car on purpose and then admit to it.

Yes, and I find that completely reprehensible. I could understand getting angry at someone for parking over the lines (but I do not condone vandalizing their car, that's inexcusible), but getting mad at someone just for parking far away? Seriously? Those people need to grow up and get over themselves.

OMG, my DH is like this (parks the furthest he can from the store entrance and then sometimes will park "crooked" taking up two parking spaces)

DRIVES ME NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every single time I ask him, "what are you doing?" He says, "I don't need some ******* hitting my truck"

Sorry for rambling....it's just a big pet peeve of mine. But maybe in your case, if you're the one that was parked in the middle of nowhere, maybe the two other cars had the same idea as you did???? Maybe they thought..."hey, if he's parked out in the middle of nowhere, I should park next to him and then my car will be safe from any damage"????

Hopefully, nothing happened to your car though...

Oh... your husband should be careful! Taking up two spaces around here, even in a nearly empty lot, is a great way to get your car keyed.

Not that I've ever done anything like that! But I've walked past more than one blinged-out SUV parked across two spaces, with a great big silver scratch down the side.

It makes me smile, even though I know whoever keyed that car was very wrong to do it.

BTW - OP, is it possible some people just feel more comfortable parking next to another car? It might help them line up in the space better. (I say this as a total non-driver, BTW.)

I will park as far away as possible from whatever store I'm going to visit. Why? I care about my car and I like walking. I'll take up one spot and that's it! I also hike back with my shopping cart when I'm done. (That's another tread:rotfl2:!)

After reading the post about the person admitting to keying a car I am just.....Well, I won't mention what words come to mind BUT seriously?
