Why do they ask what you celebrating when they don't acknowledge it?

DD is at OKW celebrating her graduation with her friends. Two of her friends have never been to Disney before and were so excited to go!! I filled out the Celebration request for First Visit and it was not acknowledged at check in.

Why bother asking if they don't acknowledge it??? Just curious......

FWIW, I saw a lot of visitors during our May trip who were wearing "1st Visit" buttons.

I think I'd tell them to ask at the front desk. I don't think it actually gets them anything other than a button and a few "Congratulations" at the parks, but it would be a nice souvenier.

I think sometimes the special occasion notifications 'slip through the cracks' and agree, they should go to the front desk, and remind them~or perhaps you could call....it's worth a try!

I doubt it really would be a big deal to the girls but I just wanted to add a little excitment to their trip!! They are having a great time anyways............at Chef Mickeys right now and then tomorrow at the Magic Kingdom and Epcot!!

Guess it did 'slip through the cracks'......just a bummer.

I'm sure the girls are having a great time and a button won't mean much. Now.

But 10 years from now...when they are talking to their kids about their upcoming first trip to WDW...

Have them go to the front desk and demand their buttons!

It's called marketing. It's just a gimmick to get people to come to Disney to celebrate a special occasion. They do not imply that they are going to do anything for you. It'syour celebration.

I remember a podcast where they were discussing that a cart had been set up inside the MK full of all kinds of buttons. The Guests were expected to help themselves.

I think they just overlooked it. I entered birthday information for our trip last month and we were handed a birthday button at check in.

You can also get buttons at any of the parks.

Yes, they may look back in 10 years and want that button but right now, they are living in the moment and making magical memories!! I can only imagine all the pictures they will be posting on their facebooks when they come home!! It will be great to see Disney through their eyes!!

The check-in person at Kidani gave my DS/DDiL Anniversary buttons when we checked in in May. I had entered that information on line. Get the button!

OP - I agree. We also just returned from our May trip. My daughter was celebrating her 5th anniversary and our granddaughter was celebrating her 2nd birthday. There was no mention of it at checkin or any other time. I did fill out the survey when we returned and it asked if we were celebrating and I answered yes and then it asked if anything special happened and the answer was NO. It's just a gimmick. We head back next month and are celebrating our 20th anniversary, so will be curious if the folks at the VWL acknowledge it at checkin.

When we were there in May (BCV) both my daughters for their spring break graduations (high schol and College), they both got buttons on check in. They were both wondering how Disney would know that, and I didn't let on. Also one night when we went ot dinner at Le Cellier, they got a congratulations card signed by a bunch of the wait staff. So I guess like most things, it's hit and miss.

We took my two nephews last summer and they were first time visitors. Last year they didn't have the 'what are you celebrating' campaign. We mentioned it at the ticket booth on our first day and told them we had two first visitors and they gave us the pins there.
