Just curious. Did I miss something? Why do some people not like Bill Gates?
Perhaps because Microsoft has cornered so much of the computer market???

I say it's because of his super sexy good looks! :rotfl:

I don't like the way Microsoft bullies smaller companies. In all honesty, much of the technology they started with was "borrowed" from Apple and IBM.

I know they give away a lot of money, but it just seems that Bill could give away a ton more and never miss it. I can tell you if I had that kind of money, 3/4's of it would be donated to charity faster than you can say Heffalump.

Yeah, I always thought that it was because he basically ripped-off Apple...

There will always be a segment of the population that hates people that have too much.

I'm not really sure. He came to speak at my university but I missed it!

I think his charitable foundation is the largest in the world, so he does give a lot. I bet a lot of what he is "worth" is tied up in stocks and things like that.

ETA - Yes his foundation has $28 billion endowment (not sure what endowment is but I read he donated $5 billinon to start it) and to maintain charitable status they must donated 5% a year, so at least $1 billion a year.

The same way Apple ripped off Xerox?

Bill Gates just did a better job with it. People hate him for the same reason they hate the New York Yankees.

I don't hate him...

I can thank him for my school' small class sizes, the giant amount of equity that my house that is 5 minutes from microsoft has gained...

Oh, but then that traffic is his fault :rotfl2:

In your opinion ;)

I happen to love my Apple iBook (and Pixar, of course, agrees :teeth: ) and cannot stand Microsoft (even though I'm using Windows right now :guilty: ).

I didn't know about the Xerox thing, only the Apple thing (I'm not that knowledgeable about all this computer business).

Great movie..."Triumph of the Nerds"....It is based on the beginnings of Xerox, Oracle, Steve Jobs and Apple, and Bill and his crew.

If anyone should hate Bill it was the guy who sold him the operating system, he named DOS.:rotfl:

I don't hate any of them, it was and is a cut-throat business that is not for the weak.

Hey, more power to ya. I think it's great that Apple provides some competition. I prefer a PC platform for various reasons, but I certainly wouldn't want Apple to go away.

But my point being Bill Gates was VERY successful with his business. Had Apple taken over on the OS and software side of things as well as Gates has done, lots of people would hate Apple. It's just the nature of being the juggernaut in #1 (hence the comparison to the NY Yankees).

Oh yeah, definitely. I agree. ::yes::
My BF would agree with you about Windows/Microsoft (he always has problems with Apple, I always have problems with Micosoft!).

I also agree with the other poster (was it FreshTressa?) that some people hate people who have more than them (hate out of jealousy).

I guess many people are just downright jelous.

Whoever is number one generally has a PR problem. People like the underdogs, generally do not like those who are in first. I think he has done well over the years, a smart business man, and now a philanthropist, as he should be.

I'm not at all jealous. Frankly I wouldn't want to be him. Having to live in a fishbowl, not being able to go out in public without fear of kidnap of you or your children, having to worry about the staff selling secret photo's of you making your children sit in timeout for whatever.

Would I like to have more money? Sure. But mostly so I could give it away to help family who could use some help (my brother who's in the hospital after a serious accident for example) and I'd love to be able to give more to the many charities I'd love to be able to fund more fully. I've got a blessed life, I need nothing. I've got reasonbly good health. And I'm able to go about my life without having to plan every minute and second. Trust me, I'm not jealous.

I hate him because he never sent me all that money that was promised to me in that email if I forwarded to 10 more people. ;) :lmao:
