Why do some people have PINs and Codes?

My sister who hasn't been to WDW since the early eighties, has never ordered a vacation planning DVD, but has registered at the Disney website, received a postcard with a 20% off code. I've been to Disney 7 times in the last 4 years, registered at the website, have a Disney Rewards card, and requested a vacation planning DVD, but I've never gotten anything. I get surveys and vacation planning stuff I didn't ask for (but appreciate). What is the common thread among those of you who get these offers?

Don't feel so bad....I've been 12 times over the last 10 years. Have updated my information at www.disneyworld.com. Have taken survey after survey. Have called Disney to find out about codes. Have all but begged for a code.

AND

Zilch! Haven't gotten any discounts other than the free ticket upgrade which was available to the general public.

I have gone many times...always fill out surveys, order dvds,etc...in 2o yrs...nada,zippo,zilch.My neighbor who went once years ago and hates disney..got not one pin but 2 different ones...it stinks!!!

I agree. I thought the same thing as we've been 14 times in the past 10 years, registered on the website, etc. We did receive a postcard one time but it wasn't specific to us as it was the same rate advertised in the newspaper.

I concluded that they must think we will come no matter what (which is true). They must not send the codes to frequent visitors but to those who only visit once or twice over an extended period.

Technically, we're not visiting WDW this year (DL and a DCL cruise instead), so perhaps we'll get one next year to try to get us back!

Disney seems to feel targeted marketing will net them better results than offering discounts to the general public that may be gobbled up by those who are most loyal and watch for them closely. Obviously assuming that those people will go anyways, or are more likely to. I don't like it, and I'm not sure they couldn't increase visits from once every couple years to annually with a more open strategy, but assumedly someone there gets paid to study this.

I''m one of the lucky ones who got a 40% off code. I have no marketing background, but here's how I figure it:

I ordered the trip planning DVD. So they knew there was a chance I was considering a trip.

Then I went to the reservations website and priced a number of resorts. So they knew I was interested.

I haven't been there since 1990, and suddenly I'm making noises about coming back. It's well worth a discount to them to get me back, in the hopes that I'll become one of you guys who go more often than once every 2 decades.

I don't think they're seeing it as a reward. Instead, it's an incentive. They figure that those of you who go often don't need that incentive; you'll go without it.

That makes sense, but I would probably go more often if they would offer me a good discount. Can you use the discount to book multiple rooms? Since my sister is waiting for her kids to get a little older before she goes, maybe she'll get another offer and she can book my room. I'll tell her that next fall she should order a DVD and start pricing vacations. :)

This isn't the solution either, as many, many frequent visitors on the board have received pins as well. It truly does seem to be luck of the draw.

I have been going for years, a total of 20+ visits and have yet to receive a pin. I have requested 2 DVD's (havent received the last one that was ordered about 3 months ago) and still no pin. Last year we even booked at BWI and had to cancel (I was put on bedrest at the last minute) and I thought maybe, just maybe Disney would see that I was interested and backed out and try to entice me with a code...but no such luck. We have since decided to skip Disney until they decide we are WORTHY of a code. :snooty:

Yes, I think you can book up to 3 rooms at the same resort at the same time.

Give it a shot.

May be Partially tru but not entirely...many people on this board and others who are frequent disney guests received codes too. So I think it may be a little more random.Incidentally, I also know people like you who haven't been in a long time and did similar stuff and got nothing.:goodvibes

What about AP holders? Do you guys ever get pins? I think I'm going to upgrade on our next visit.

Folks, you are answering your own questions here..."I have been 12 times in the last 3 years, and yet they don't want to give me a discount!"

That's because they don't need to sell WDW to you. You go whether they give you a code or not. They are a business and they target people with these discounts who maybe have been a few times a while ago, or maybe never, to get them there the first time.

How does that explain the frequent visitors (many on this board) who are receiving codes?

I just got off the phone with Disney reservations and their system shows that I haven't been to WDW since Nov 2006. We've been twice since then. Looked through my old emails and noticed that for the last two trips I entered a different email address. Maybe that is the cause of the discrepency. And maybe that's why some frequent visitors get codes. Maybe there is some misinformation in the Disney database that makes it appear that they haven't visited for awhile. Whatever it is, I hope I get a code someday. If they would offer me 40% off, I would come.

Me too! Until then, Atlantis is looking better and better =)
