Why do some people hate WDW?

Makes me sad that I live in this state when I see some of those comments. It still shocks me that in this day in age (21st century) that we are still so unaccepting of others. Who cares if gays go to Disney or they work at Disney? Those people are ignorant and are the very definition of horrible. I got those comment first hand at Disney during Gay Days - so many people are living in their own world's to realize that things don't revolve around them. I also think a lot of people don't like WDW because they can't afford it. It is a lot easier to use not being interested or a myriad of other excuses than just admit that it is a bit too pricey. I wasn't a fan of WDW until after I did the College Program but I didn't attack it like some of these people!

It makes me want to move out of Georgia when I read crap like this!

I agree, what difference does it make if your gay, red, black, blue, white, purple, muslin, catholic, methodist, well you get my drift. As long as you are a nice person, that's all that matters to me. By the way, I am a definite WDW lover. It's a place that you can go to and do as much or as little as you want to do. All I ask is that people be pleasant. Also, if it's hot don't complain, you are in Florida. If you come to WDW at prime season, don't complain about the crowds. We were there at Christmas and it was packed. People were complaining. Bluntly, get over it.

I had a conversation with someone recently about their experience at WDW. They went during one of the busiest times of the year, had no kind of plan (I mean no plan) and also bought the most expensive tickets they sell, and complained about how crowded it was, and how expensive it was! Uhh, yep, sure was!

There are ways to do things cheaper...stay at a Value, stay off property, don't eat all your meals at a character dinner, don't buy park hoppers, ohh, and how about putting a little effort into your vacation planning. Just a smidge. I don't expect everyone to do the amount of research I have done for our trip, but just a little would go a long way.

Who cares? Seriously, there is no way to compare experiences-say a Disney vacation and a week in Hawaii. They are different. Duh. One of the comments on the post cracked me up, something to do with culture for the Fred Whitebread set. That is just too funny-
Disney is a theme park, run by a very successful corporation. This is America, take it or leave it, you have a choice. The funny thing is that people that bash Disney believe they are the 'open minded' ones. LOL!
If I want to git me sum culchur ahll go tu a mooseum-if I want to go a theme park, I'll go to WDW.

I know somebody like this...very sad. But the thing is, she acted with extreme curiosity about WDW, but always disguised it with disgust. Then she was "dragged" by a family member, and has pictures of herself having a good time- and made fun of herself for it, and still "hates" it. It seems party like an issue of self confidence.

I think a lot of people feel like outsiders and don't "get" it, therefore they put up a front and criticize.

People I have known, who have gone to WDW and came back saying they were glad they went, but won't do it again, was usually because of a few different things:
1st - it is not Six Flags, Kings Island or that type of amusement park, if that is all they are interested in, thrill rides, then WDW is not for them.
2nd - too worn out at the end of the day or week - they tried to do too much with no break & you cannot see it all in a week. I tell all my friends, that especially during the more crowded season, to get there early, then come back for the afternoon rest, then go back in.
3rd - you have the ones who say something like, 'Well, we rode all the rides and did it all'. Well, if all you did was ride the rides, then you missed about 50% of WDW is all about, in the theme parks & beyond.
4th - "I was standing in line for over an hour on a ride" - sure, there are certain times of the year, especially at the holidays, it will be packed. For example, on Thanksgiving week, we arrive the weekend before, ride the rides until Wednesday, then back off & enjoy the atmosphere & the decorations. Go to all the resorts & see how they are decorated, etc.. The second part of this is they did not develop an 'plan of attack' for doing the rides and getting the fast passes. I generally will not get in a line for a ride that is over a 45 minute wait and most of the time even if it is over 30 minutes. (the early bird definately gets the worm, if you know what I mean)

I know some of the residents, especially in central Florida, think Disney has destroyed everything, but they also forget that there is no state income tax, just property tax. The taxes generated by tourism pays for a lot. Here in Louisiana, many years ago during our oil & gas hayday, taxes were cheap. Now I pay thousands in state income tax and still pay property taxes on top of it. Yes, traffic is terrible at times in the Orlando area and there are some other things that the tourism has put a burden on, but who outside of Florida had ever heard of Orlando before Disney?

I think some people see Disney as 'just another theme park', instead of an experience. I go for the whole experience, enjoying the parks, the food, the surroundings, etc. I have neighbors whose kids had Disney day trips and they hated it, complained about everything, especially how much it cost to eat and grab a beer. Of course these are the same folks who said they'll never go back to Sea World since they don't give you free beer anymore . They can't understand why we go and stay over at a week at a time a few times a year and no matter how much I've tried to explain why we do, they just never seem to get it. So I've quit trying. I enjoy it, my family enjoys it and that is good enough for me.

1) Alas, people just do not like the same things.
2) We do not always vacation at Disney.
3) But, we do not fault those who do.
4) Sure, we could use the 'there are other locations to vacation" excuse.
5) However, each to their own liking.

NOTE: I am sure some will dislike my affection for golf, although I can't see anyone in their right mind who would possible think in such a shallow, uncaring, simplistic, and unfeeling manner.

I love WDW and that is where we vacation every year. We go for the whole Disney experience as was stated. It's more than just an amusement park and that was Walt Disney's dream. We have friends who went to WDW and hated it. It was too hot, lines too long, parking was a pain, etc. Well first of all if you go in the summer it will be hot, not rocket science here. If you go at prime time, lines will be long. If you don't stay on Disney property you have to fight the traffic and parking. Personally, I would only stay on Disney property. With the value resorts, you can do it rather ecconomically. I live in Maryland and it costs more to stay in Ocean City, Maryland then to go to WDW. What do you do at the ocean when it rains.
We also know people that complain about Disney making "so much money". I would hope that even though we believe in fairy dust, Disney is still a business. If they don't show a profit, it will be no more. The bottom line is that even if you don't like something you can express your opinion with being rude.

I love Disney haters it makes me love it even more and yes in my eyes Disney World is perfect. There is nowhere else on earth like it that you can completly walk away from reality for the entire stay.
As for value for thoes of us who stay on site and especially the Fort get a great value. Where else can you park your car or RV for a week and get free bus, boat or monorail transprotation. Also if someone spends a fortune in the parks it is thier own fault it just takes a little planning.

A friend of ours went to WDW a couple of weeks ago. In 3 days they went on 3 rides and NO shows. I asked what did you do? She said, I don't know. She decided she didn't care for it. I commented that you didn't do anything! I'd probably be unhappy paying good money to spend 3 days in a hot crowded place and not know that you even did anything. I'll just keep making my annual reservations and get away from the real world, which is my idea of a vacation.

Just about everyday while we're waiting around in the heat for our assignment, we'll look at each other and ask, why are all these people here at this time of the year. We're very glad they are, because we'd have nothing to do, but we just don't understand it.

I guess "to each his own". My son-in-law owns a sport fishing boat up here. I always laugh and tell him how I just don't get the sport of fishing.. going on a boat at 5:00 a.m., heading up the Delaware bay, sit in the hot sun or the cold rain for hours all just to catch catch fish that they can take their pictures with and then cut the fish apart..But he then reminds me that his charter boat is usually filled7 days a week, so as I said earlier..to each his own. Millions love to fish, millions love Disney (and probably millions more love both!).
