Why do some people hate cats so much?

My Daddy was scratched by one when he was little so he always hated them and we never had one but DH comes from a cat family so we got two when we were first married. When DD came along and started walking the youngest of the two started peeing everywhere so he went to live with my BIL who loves him and the other got out the front door when we came home from vacation and propped the door open to bring in the luggage. We didn't realize until the next day that he was missing:sad1: We never found him.
That being said we haven't gotten any more. We really were tired of all the things others have mentioned, the litter box, the hair everywhere the scratched up furniture, hair balls, etc. and so we remain happily animal free.

I love cats, I have some (and I am not a strange person, very normal just like most people by the way). About the whole jumping on counters thing and being on furniture, it's very hard to keep them from it, especially if they are inside cats...and mine are. I provide them with lots of toys, they have many scratching post, and I have placed a couple of kitty beds around for them to lay in.

I am not going to judge anyone on their house cleaning, but I do that if you do not scoop a litter box everyday, a few times a day, you will probably have that smell of litter box in the room or area it is in. That is why I do just that, scoop it several times day, plus I overdue it in the cleaning dept....LOL

You know, some people are cat people, some are dog people...some don't like or care for animals at all. I am a huge animal lover and I do what I can all the time for animals, locally, nationally and worldwide, and it I can't understand people not liking animals, but I know not everyone is an animal lover and I respect their views and opinion, as long as they are not cruel or mistreat animals, then do each their own. :)

I like both but happen to have 3 cats, so I guess I'm more of a cat person. We had dogs when I was younger and lived at home but as the cats are more independant and can manage themselves without me taking them outside etc, it makes it easier with workhours I have and the lifestyle we live.

I can't remember how it was not having cathair on the couches, clothes etc and the litterbox won't smell if it is cleaned on a very regular basis, still, the cat food in a can doesn't smell good and never will ;) but they only get that in the mornings (Fancy feast) and dry-food the rest of the time.

Our cats don't jump up onto the countertops but they do sleep on the kitchen table, which we know and wipe of with wipes before we set the table to eat. :)

I love them because they are mischivious (sp) :rotfl: They are just right for me and my family, though we have added my dd's hamster into the mix (she got one for Christmas) and he's in good hands, cats don't mess with him, they don't know what he is, they just watch him run around in his ball on the floor or wheel in his cage :lmao:

In your case, your dog would protect you from the cat (kidding, of course! But your dog probably would!)

You don't know my cat.....He would prob eat the dog alive then eat my dead body!:rotfl:

A very good friend of ours is a State Trooper and he can not stand cats, for this reason alone........If you die in your house and it is a few days before someone finds you, your dog would curl up next to your side, but your cat would eat you....he says that is reason enough to not like them. (he had a "scene" like this on the job a few years ago)
Me I love my dog and my cat!

Dogs do it too. Any animal starving probably would:

"VIENNA, Austria -- An Alsatian pet dog has eaten its owner's corpse after becoming trapped in a house for several weeks, police have said.

The 78-year-old woman who died alone about three weeks beforehand was almost entirely devoured by her dog in Feldbach in the Austrian province of Styria before being discovered by police.

Police said the German shepherd dog had been in the house with its owner when she is believed to have died of a heart attack.

All doors and windows had been locked in the house and the animal was forced to eat the body to avoid starving."

"PHILADELPHIA -- The family of a 75-year-old man whose remains were eaten by his his dog is looking for a good home for the man's Labrador Retriever.

The puppy was left alone for several days when its owner died. The dog ate part of the man's body, authorities said."

I am a pet sitter and I love ALL animals but cats are definatly one of the cleanest animals other than pigs:) None of our cats went on the counters. We trained them not to. Yes, cats can be trained. We even had one that fetched milk rings.

I have to agree "hate" is a strong word but I forgot to mention the fur ALL over......walking on the counters, furballs!!!
I won't even eat anything from a house that has cats...YUCK!

Haven't read all the posts but I hate cats and dogs. Gross, I don't even like eating at someones house with a cat as often you see them jump up on the table or counter.

I adore cats. I've always had one and probably always will.

I live and breathe cats. My children have been taught that a cat is next to a child......:)

I don't like cats because they are always sneaking around and sleeping on my convertible top!

I find it funny that people who hate cats claim "the litter box is gross" as a reason, yet they will have kids and deal with much grosser stuff like waste filled diapers, spit-up, etc.

I'll take 12 cats over 1 baby- anyday!

Dogs- I like them but I don't want to own one, they require too much work.

I'll take them both!!!!;) I love my troublesome cats and troublesome kids......:lmao: :lmao: I even take my troublesome cats on vacation with me...but..shhhhhhh...I think that is a big, big no no!!!;) :)

I think deep down inside I am still bitter about my cat getting run over and me seeing my poor Midnight squooshed in the street when I was only 4 years old. Plus when I was growing up I never knew one nice cat. They would always attack me or scratch me. I think cats also know that I do not like them because they always want to hang around me at homes that have cats as pets.

i love cats! and i'm allergic, AND asthmatic. i just take my allergy meds and i'm fine.

i really don't like dogs, much. i like cats better because they take care of themselves a bit more than dogs do. give them a litter box and some food and they're good. dogs need walks all the time and to be outside a lot and just a lot of attention and i just don't have the energy to deal with a dog all the time.

I hate cats because I adopted 2 at separate intervals. They both came up and rubbed against my legs and acted like they liked me. I took them home and both cats abandoned me for DH and then ignored me. I now have a awesome dog who likes me best and could care less about anyone else.:thumbsup2
The cats are gone. One died (Ms. Kitty of natural causes after 20 years) and one (Big Sexy) has a new home with a loving owner. I still have Sugar the sweetest dog I ever knew. She is amazingly loyal.

just for the record...my cat has NEVER been on the tables or counters or other eating surfaces...gross.

Gross, I don't even like eating at someones house with a cat as often you see them jump up on the table or counter.

That is my big thing too! They go in their litter box and stand on the dirty kitty litter and then go on peoples counters, the dinner table etc it is just way to gross to eat at a house where there is a cat living. The houses that have cats always smell like pee or a litter box, cat owners will tell you that their house doesn't but that is only becuase they are used to the smell, for others when you walk in a cat house it stinks.
I don't hate cats but I don't care for them and I wouldn't want one living in my house.

LOL but babies don't walk in their own pee and poop then traspe around the house ;)

I certainly don't *hate* cats, but I really, really don't like them at all. I can't stand walking into a house and smelling cat, cat pee and kitty litter. I don't like how moody they can be and I've seen some vicious scratches from them. I can't stand how they get up on all of the furniture, countertops, cars, etc. I can't stand having cat hair all over the place. They are just not my kind of animal. ;) I can't imagine having any affection at all for them. They just aren't loveable to me. :confused3 That being said, I would never wish any harm upon them. I just don't want them around me.

I am much more of a dog person. ;)

This is exactly how I feel except I'm not a dog person either. I'm just not a pet person at all.
