Why do some DIS'ers

Maybe because you've only been on the dis for a year? :confused3 If I never went back to Disney again, I'd still be on these boards. I have friends here. I don't find it odd at all.

Actually I've use to have a different username but stopped using it as a relative was commenting on my posts and I couldn't figure out how to change the name so just created a new account instead. :confused3 I've been here since 2001.

It's a big board and people often come and go between trips. I wouldn't assume much by their join date.

No not at all!

I totally get what your saying with your original post and agree with you 100%.

But I do find it weird that if you haven't been to WDW in 10 years and aren't planning a trip why you would hang out here. I don't unless I'm planning a trip or just back and having post trip letdown. LOL. Sorry but I do find it odd.

Kind of like me hanging out on sports boards when I don't watch sports. Don't really understand why......

This isn't the trip planning board, this is the community board. I could be wrong (wouldnt be the first time) but I believe the community board is for everything, Disney or Non-Disney. It is a public forum for people to come and go as they please, whether they are going to Disney or not. I dont get why you find that so odd.

Ok, I really think this thread went the wrong way. Let me re-phrase again and see if this helps.

I understand the whole wanting to go to WDW every year and if my circumstances allowed I would do it myself. I get that its a preference where to go and what you want to do and by no means am I judging people for where they vacation every year. That is not the question at all.

My question was why some feel that it is a necessity, a need, a HAVE to go there to the point where they argue with spouses or spend money they dont have to do it.

Im not talking about folks who can afford to go and choose to go there. Im asking about folks who either cant afford to go and do everything they can to get there or argue with their spouse about it. Im also not basing this question on the one particular post everyone is talking about, Im referencing a lot of different posts through the years.

I think I better go back to work and get off the boards for a while today. Im obviously not making sense.

I totally get what you're asking! I've seen some pretty outlandish things people are willing to do to get to WDW when they can't afford to feed and clothe their kids, and all I can think is "WHY???" We were poor in the earlier years of our marriage and vacations alone weren't on our radar, let alone a more expensive trip like Disney.

I don't get the mentality either. Don't get me wrong, I don't think you have to be rolling in the dough to have the right to travel there, but a little common sense is in order too.

While I don't feel its "necessary" to go every year, I really enjoy WDW. We've been lucky enough that DH and I both have good jobs and have always lived well below our means. Other than our mortgage we have no other debt. I've managed a trip almost every year (and some years more than one). DH hates WDW and I hate camping/fishing. We usually plan it so he has a camping/fishing trip and I have a WDW trip. We also do trips together to other places. Travel for us is a priority. We don't care about the newest, latest, greatest gadget, electronics, etc. and we drive our cars until they die (the car before last I was able to keep for 18 years!). We just like to travel.

I can't speak for anyone else but me. The reason I go every year (sometimes more than once) is because Disney is my "happy place". My parents took us every year since birth and it feels good to go back to a place with such happy family memories. It is what I do , and have done for the past 35 years! Do i feel a need to go.....not really, but on the other hand I cant see a reason why i shouldnt.

Feel that it is absolutely necessary to go to WDW every single year? Im just curious about this. I post some, but I lurk a lot and I noticed that some people get really bent out of shape if they can't make it back to the "world" for a vacation the next year. Some feel that they "need" to go back and vacation while their kids are little, they owe it to them. What is that about? We've been a couple of times, once when my sister took us, and twice on our own. The last time we went was around 2000, I think, its been so long I cant remember. Anyway, the point is I guess is that while I like going there and would love to have another vacation there I dont feel it is a need and I certainly would not argue with my DH about planning a trip there nor would I scrape up money and plan it so that I barely had the funds to be there with. If we cant save up an ample amount to go on then why bother? I dont know I just dont get why some DIS'ers feel that they "have" to go there every single year. Ok, rant is over, back to your regularly scheduled posts.

Haven't read past this post but I would answer with the question, "Why do some DISERS care about how other DISERS lead their lives?

I know tons of people who came to plan a trip and then remained.
OP arrived on the dis 4 years AFTER their last trip and didn't plan another. I gotta admit, that seems a little odd :)

We just like to. We end up jonesing for another trip after a few months, and then add a bunch of months to save up the money, and then we go again. :)

Spoiling the kids rotten...if you knew my husband's family.:rotfl2: The grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings... everyone is a DVC member so the little ones grow up with Disney being a normal thing. The running joke in our family is our kids are "Disney snobs":rotfl:

Just want to make sure that I don't mis understand or you don't mis understand. I don't feel that way about the kids, the other pp DH did. Shoot mine go 3 and 4 times a year, but we live close.

The funniest thing was 4 years ago, We treated ourselves to Christmas at the Grand Floridian, HH had worked major overtime, we got a good deal and we already had tickets. Anyway, we spent 7 days.

The following year we went back and stayed at our normal PORS. DD in all of her innocence said, "what we have to carry our bags? what happened to valet?" Now in her defense this was the first trip she really remembers where we stayed on property. We still tease her to tis day about being a spoiled little girl, even though she really isn't, it just came out that way.

I would go to Disney every year if I could... Heck I'd live there if I could! But that's my personal choice... If I only ever went on vacation to Disney World and never any place else I'd be ok with that. Unfortunatly it's kind of expensive and we are only a family of 3 and hope to have 1-2 more children so then it'll be even more expensive and we'll be lucky to go every 10 yrs lol.

I've been there in 1986, 2001, 2005, 2006 (twice), and 2007.. I'm about WDW'ed out and it's highly unlikely that I'll ever go back again..

I think some people just love it so much they want to go as often as they can.. There's nothing wrong with that - as long as everyone is on the same page and they have the money to do it..

As someone else mentioned, I think it's just personal preferences..:goodvibes

Why do some people feel the need to go to the Ocean/Beach every summer? At least things at Disney change, the beach is the beach.

We went to Disney in 1990 for the first time -- I took a part-time job and saved for 2 years for that trip. We went again in 1992 -- again it took me 2 years to save up for the trip. We have been at least once every year since then, sometimes more than once. What can I say, I love Disney.

I'm just curious about why the OP hasn't been to WDW since 2000 and is not planning a trip there why they would be posting on a DISboard community board?:confused3 That seems odd to me.

It's kind of odd that you find it "odd", actually.. Most of the threads regarding "planning" trips to WDW are on the BB, Disney Restaurants, Disney Hotels, Theme Parks & Attractions, etc..

Once in awhile there will be a thread started on the CB pertaining to planning a trip - or talking only about Disney - but the majority are just general topics, like people would discuss in a RL "community".. :confused3

It doesn't bother me that people scrimp and save to go at all.. The one that gets me is when someone is having money troubles or recieving government aid and say they "deserve" it. Not the everyday average planners. If I don't get a vacation due to time or money oh well, I figure I will go some other time, I don't rant that I "deserve" it.

I don't know! I've read through this thread and still haven't found a good enough answer.....

But maybe its what they know and whatnot. But, for the price there are other really cool places in this country and world to go and see. I would imagine getting burned out if I went too much.

My 16 yo daughter and I go twice a year because we love both Disney. She will go off to school in a couple of years and I know we'll both have wonderful memories of our trips together.

Some people go hiking or to the beach or snow skiing every year, we choose to go to WDW. Sometimes we also go skiing and to the beach as well. It depends on the year and the economy in our area.

We have no kids. We go every year because we love it. Not sure what else I could say to answer the question. Why do I get excited about Christmas? Because it's fun! Why do I go to the beach? Because it's fun! Why do I go to WDW every year? Because it's fun!

It wouldn't be the end of the world if I couldn't make it every year, but I sure do like to try.

We go every year because we own DVC.

And we bought DVC so we can go every year.

It's our vacation of choice.

Exactly

Plus I go for personal sentimental reasons. It was the only vacation I got to go on with my husband before he passed away. So I go to relive those memories and to make new ones.
