Why do so many people spell LOSE as LOOSE?

Hmmm...I confess I have not read every page in this thread, but my immediate thought is that people who use loose instead of lose are the same ones who buy the dinning plan at WDW.

Simba is the 'handsomest' boy in the world. He also has a 'rubbable' belly.

Unnecessary "quotation marks" and Capitalized Words are my pet peeves:

"Ice cold drinks" $1.50

It's a beautiful day in the Neighborhood!

We've got a "great deal" for you!

Send your "Mom" a card!

Grrrrr! It makes me "loose" my mind!

I'm working off some points so I'll be nice :)
I also didn't read the entire thread, but bad spelling and grammar sometimes make posts very difficult to read. My biggest peeve is there and their. It drives me crazy.

:rotfl2:

Dinning is probably one of my biggest pet peeves. It's a basic, elementary level word. I don't understand why people get it wrong.

This is the one that simply drives me up the wall. DH and his mother use it all the time and both have advanced degrees! It simply makes my blood boil every time I hear it. Don't they understand how "unejimicated" they sound?

Oh, I hate that too. Improper verb conjugation is rampant around here (meaning where I live) and it drives me up the wall. Last year DD had a para-pro who could not conjugate a verb to save her life, yet here this woman was supposed to be teaching kindergarteners! :scared1:

I can't believe that no one has mentioned the misuse of "then" and "than".

"I would rather stay on site then off site."

I hate conjugation errors, too, especially when paired with personal pronouns. My favorite Latin professor used to refer to people who spoke this way as Weebies, because of the way they conjugated "to be": I be, you be, we bees.

I really hate "seperate", along with the aforementioned of/have confusion.

I can't believe no one has mentioned this one yet:

Your welcome

It's supposed to be You're welcome

That one always drives me nuts.

I don't care, but, I knew you would.

O, crud! :rotfl2: :lmao: I hate typing. That's it! I'm blaming it on the drugs I'm taking for my back. You can't blame me anymore.:woohoo:

OK, here's one for ya'. I have my 8th graders do a career project. For part of it, they have to write an imaginary resume for themselves 20 yrs. in the future. One girl put under "Honors and Accomplishments" that she was Valid Victorian of her graduating class!

OMG - that is to funny (or is it too or two? JK!! I know it's - is that right, it's? - too!)

she was Valid Victorian of her graduating class!

HA! My DH is a professor, and one of his student's papers last semester discussed a technical mouth function...malfunction. We were really laughing at that one.

I am not the world's greatest speller, and Lord knows, and most everyone else does too, I have LOTS of typos.

This really bugs me, because it is not one person, it is many people. When they mean lose, they type it as loose. :confused3 Can't they read back and see that the sentence with the word loose makes no sense? I have come to the conclusion that TOO MANY people really believe the word lose has two o's.

DIS spelling lesson of the day:

"My child has a LOOSE tooth, I think he will LOSE it in a couple of days."

THANK YOU.

Its called public education.

I have to confess that after the first few posts of this thread, I kind of lost track of it. I got involved in a couple of other threads that are like the energizer bunny - they just keep going and going.

I have had MORE fun and had more laughs reading all the pages of this thread.

Thank you, grammAr police, you've made my day!

Are any of you familiar with Richard Lederer? He writes the most awesome books on the oddities and snafus in the English language. His "History of the World According to Students" is a classic. Here is a link to his website: http://www.verbivore.com/ Whenever I need a giggle I go there, or pull one of his books off the shelf and I'm set.

Hey now, I resemble that remark! :lmao:

Seriously though, I am a French teacher (public school), but whenever for some reason there is a question on a test or a project in my class that requires a response in English, it must be completed using proper spelling and grammar, or points are taken off.

Another commonly mispelled word, especially on the DIS is Souvenirs. I have seen it as souvieneers, souvaneers, souvinears. I could go on all day.

I believe that it is the CORRECT spelling for anything DISNEY!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
