Why do so many people dislike SSR?

OP... make your own decisions based upon YOUR likes/needs/wants. Stay clear of making large decisions based upon posts from individuals who have less than 50 posts on a Bulletin Board.

For the record - there is a difference between "Write" and "Right" and "There" and "Their" and "They're."

While it is true that your decision is ultimately based on your needs as well as those of your family, it never hurts to consider the reviews of each of the resorts from people who have STAYED at the resorts. This feedback will help you decide which resort best meets your family's likes/needs/wants.

For example, OKW is my home resort. I enjoy staying there when I have the whole family traveling down to WDW. But when my and I are the only ones on the trip, we enjoy staying at SSR. We like having the couch in the studio instead of a second bed. I have never felt that the resort is too big. In fact, I think its size creates, IMHO, a stronger feeling that I am staying in a condo ("my second home") and less like I am in resort.

Again, my best advice, like others before me, is to choose a home resort that your family will enjoy for many years to come...

quite simply....condo style is moderate style (later relayed to value)....as they are all built this way.....

while the hotel style is the deluxe feel.

that is alot of the reason why okw and saratoga won't feel "As nice"

The "hotel" style can range from Four Seasons to Holiday Inn Express. I just do not get this "feel". I think you are equating the exterior entrances as a Motel 6 style or "feel". Sorry, but both OKW and SSR do not, IMHO, fit the bill as "moderate" style resorts.

The point is this: okw and saratoga are almost designed to be associated with the moderate priced disney locations.....that correlation is unavoidable....as their layouts and amenities are much closer to the moderates than the deluxes...

Interesting correlation. We have stayed in the moderates and values. My DH who is the resort snob does not want to spend his vacations at either again.
I could "kidnap" him and "force" him to take time off at SSR and he would be happy as a clam. We stayed at the Villas before it morphed to SSR and have many happy memories of the area. And we have in our many family vacations in 33 years of marriage have stayed in deluxe facilities set up like SSR/OKW. We don't associate the "condo" style with the mods or values.

I'm got a reservation booked for OKW this spring. I've never stayed there, but right now I view it as a more "moderate" resort. So why am I staying there? Because I get lots and lots of room for a very low price. In other words, I think it is a great value (kind of like the moderates). Fewer amenities, lousy location, but a great value. (I might add that "moderate" doesn't always equate "bad" in my mind. If POFQ had a decent restaurant and didn't share bus service with POR, I think it would be almost as good as any Deluxe.

If they would tear down all the buildings at SSR and rebuild them so that the units were as big as OKW, and then adjust the point chart so that it was identical to that of OKW, you'd never hear another criticism from me of SSR again. Under those circumstances, I'd probably be waiting in line to stay there.

Well, SSR has benefits, lower yearly fees is a good reason and the prices are coming down, as people get jazzed by some newer offerings. That said, with the treehouse thing that could revitalize SSR

Is SSR a good buy for you? Well, when you walked by did you like it more than any other resort you saw? Did it appeal to you?

SSR does nothing for me, but neither did VWL when i stayed there.
I like OKW and admit I was floored someone called it a moderate and a few other not so nice comments. But then I realized I have probably said similar stuff about SS and it is all about what appeals to each person

SSR is not a sinking ship, but I personally would not buy there. If that one is your fav resort I still wouldpick your 2nd choice(assuming it isn;t okw) this will give you the 11 month window at a smaller resort and odds are high at 7 months you can still book ssr if you prefer..well unless you go peek DVC travle times

I really do not care, if the resort is condo style or hotel style, there are extra conviencies to the condo style in some aspects.

I bet if they moved SSR onto the MK monorail, the location would outweigh all the "condo" disadvantages and in the pre-BLT days, SSR would of been the hottest DVC property.

Disney is changing DTD (I believe PI is now closed?) Make sure the new DTD plans still fit into your needs.

To me, SSR bus service has been quite good. It is never as crowded as I experienced staying at All-Star sports. SSR also (usually) runs it's own dedicated busses (Although I've heard of a few mid-day shares with OKW)
And at the parks, SSR gets a nice spot # 4 which makes it a little closer to the park entrances.

PI closes on the 27th I think, so there is another few days and it's been packed this past week (especially the adventurer's club).

I agree with the SSR bus service during the day, but not at night when you are trying to leave the parks at closing time. SSR is usually one of the last to be picked up (at least from our experience). Twice we've had to wait over an hour for a bus while AKL had 3 buses, Riverside had 3 buses, and Wilderness Lodge had 2 buses. Not sure what is going on with this but it's very annoying.

Even so we love SSR. I'm not crazy about the food (Artiste Palatte) - I actually hate eating there because I've gotten sick so many times. But other than that we love SSR. It's pretty and quiet - just what we want!
