Why do people say DH, DD DS & DW?

I have always been curious why a lot of people here say DH (dearest husband) DD (dearest daugther) DS (dearest son) & DW (dearest wife). Isn't it just easier to say my son, daughter, wife & husbad? This is not meant to be a bad thread to the people who talk like this, just curious & that is all.

I love all things Disney, but I kinda get annoyed by the whole D(S/F/D...etc). Just always have to look 2x to make sure which D they are talking about... a lil hacky.

OHHHHH..........you mean that means DEAREST? Hmmm, and all this time I thought we were venting................ ;)

Like I said before I was not venting, just curios why people like that. Also I do agree with cgcruz, because sometimes when you read a list of family members mentioning every DS & DD, it can get annoying & strain your eyes if there is a lot of people to mention.

I don't mind the standard shorthands like DD, DH, DS. I always have a problem with DSIL, though. Is that "dear son in law" or "dear sister in law". And then there's BFF, which I saw the other day and spent 10 minutes thinking about before I realized it must mean "best female friend".

The shorthand can be a pain, KWIM? :rotfl2:

I didn't know it meant dearest! I always thought it was "Disney husband", "Disney daughter, " etc. I think I'll keep thinking of it my way.

It is not just this board, I have seen it on others as well.

Doesn't bother me one way or the other.

Those shorthands have been around at least the 12 or so years I've been on message boards, but I really don't know how they started. You see them everywhere, not just here on the DISboards.

I use them on occasion but generally prefer to just say "my husband" or "my son".

Me Too!

Feeling kind of stupid now. :teeth:

Okay, now don't I feel like a blonde fluffy brain. All this time I thought I was saying Disney Husband, Disney son.

Next, I'll find out the Dreally means dastardly, dopie, disgusting, darn,or damn. I am really confounded. How could I have been so wrong? :confused3

I just learned so much :teeth:

haha! Me too! That's part of the reason I felt it was hacky.

Because DH is easier to type than husband and DD is easier to type than DD... :rotfl2: Like EthansMom, I don't mind the standard shorthand, but sometimes it gets to be a bit much and I have to figure out what someone means.

And sometimes it stands for damn! :)

I don't really care if someone wants to use the shorthand or not. It's when I almost use them in the real world that I start to worry! :rotfl:

I guess I also learned something new from you people. I thought DH as an example always meant (Dearest Husband). I never thought others were thinking or saying it to mean Disney Husband.

That's true, it seems to be standard shorthand. H, S, D, etc would be fine with me but then would anyone know what we are talking about?

No, no, I didn't say YOU were venting, I said WE..........see post 11 for what I was trying NOT to say...............really I am very nonconfrontational, no way would I call you out on a post!

These acronyms are used on most message boards. They are the same on all the message boards I post to anyway regardless of the board's subject matter.
