Why do people pool hop?

We are DVC as well as locals, and have only used the pool hop option once. We were tired of AK the other day, so we hopped over to the CR to swim in their pool. Granted if we were still checked into a resort, we would have just used that resorts pool, but we had already checked out. While I dont see us doing it often, it was nice to have a break in our day by relaxing by the pool. :thumbsup2

I agree--I don't get the pool hopping either. We have a pool at home so we get to swim alot and while we're at WDW there are LOTS of other things we'd rather be doing. We do really enjoy the water and waterslides and we usually stay at Allstars so they have no slide, but then we just hit BB or Typhoon Lagoon. :thumbsup2

They are sister resorts. It is allowed.
Are you sure about that . . . . . . .
Yep. It was before all the moderate/value resorts were built, so very early 90's/and before. There just weren't as many guests onsite, so it wasn't an issue. Add to that, all the pools were pretty much the same, give or take. It wasn't like now, with slide-less value pools vs hugely themed deluxe pools.

I have stayed on-site the past twelve years and can honestly say I have never seen a pool hopper. How do you determine what one is? I am so busy counting heads at the pool and sipping my tropical drink to notice what is happening around me. I agree that it is unfortunate that people would take advantage using a pool where they are not a registered guest. I think I would be insulted if I were asked for an i.d. at the pool. I would have to assume that I didn't look as though I belonged there. Has anyone seen Disney enforce this? Because I have never seen anyone asked except when we stayed at Beach Club and you needed a key to enter the pool. Perhaps Disney should make that a requirement at all pools.
I almost wish they would go with keyed entry. But, some say that the 'fencing of the pool area' would be less than appealing.
But, how do you know when someone is pool hopping? It's pretty ease. I have overheard swimmers saying that they really like the pool here, too bad it costs too much money to stay here, or, this is so much nicer than our pool at POP. Or, maybe we should think about staying on-site instead of over by SeaWorld next time. Yep, dead give-aways!!! You would think that people would keep their voices lowered when saying stuff like this.

I can't imagine pool hoping with kids.

I mean to put them in their suits & then to put clothes over them, have a bag with towels, dry clothes for the ride back because we all know the buses/monorail are freezing.

No way!

I like to put my kids in their suits, put shoes on them (if they are lucky) & go out to the pool. I do my laundry while we are swimming & then go back to our room, sit out on the lanai in our wet suits while one kid/adult is getting ready.

But...back in the early 80's we stayed off site & my mom brought our suits with us & we swam at the Poly. That was the only time we were bad, bad, bad people & pool hopped.
