Why do people play their car radios SO loud?

It bugs me, too, but I guess I can see why loud music might be considered cool. Just like having great big tires on a truck or car might make someone feel big. I don't want that, and it's a little obnoxious, but I can kind of "get it".

The vehicle-related noise thing that I don't get and dislike even more is big, loud mufflers - bought apparently just to be more noisy . That seems even more like noise pollution than the music. I also don't get making vehicles shorter than they are supposed to be :confused3. Why would anyone want to feel shorter and smaller than the rest??

My son's stereo and amp and speakers and whatever else he has in that car that when turned up, makes my chest feel funny....almost hurt.....all cost more than the stinking car itself.

He (and the rest of his friends with boom boom boom boom boom) are all so proud of it.

I think they're all nuts. ;)

I'm a 41 year old married Mom of 2- I admit it- I listen to my radio REALLY loud in the car........... It's so I can't hear myself sing! I love to sing along, but I suck. There- it's out in the open. Off to a Pampered Chef party now!

Whats the big deal. We all did silly things when we were young. I played my mating call loud too, but it didnt work till later in life
I use to get to work 30 minutes early so I could sit in my car listen to music and relax for a few minutes. Sure enough one of the 50+ men from work (yes I am in that same age group) parked close in same area and BLARED his music everyday. Wouldn't of been so bad if I enjoyed the kind of music he had on. So I had to park 5 aisles over from then on so I could relax a few minutes before work.

I can respect anyone wanting to hear their music. :music: BUT that doesn't mean I want to hear your music. I do own a radio in my car.

We have a loud car stereo ordinance around here, but it does no good.

It's not as bad when they're driving around, but they should have the courtesy to turn it down when they come to a stoplight. If I'm in my van with the windows up and a guy is 4 or 5 cars behind me and I have to turn up my radio to hear it, then it's too loud.

Some of the bass hurts my ears. Not by the loudness, but it causes something inside my ears to vibrate and it hurts. Same reason why I can't have my windows down as we go over 40 mph or whatever.

Those are usually the culprites (not always, but when I see them...). It drives me crazy, too. Do they really think that everyone else out there wants to hear their music? I don't even like the music they are playing 90% of the time---it's usually ghetto music. I get to hear it at gas stations, too.

Either ghetto crap or nothing but "thump thump" noise...

Maybe they want to be future clients of Miracle Ear...... I sure don't.

I turn mine up occasionally if a kickin' song is on but not to the volume level they have theirs turned up to. I prefer to want to hear if something is coming near me, like, say, an AMBULANCE or FIRE TRUCK!!!!

"If it ain't loud, it ain't rock and roll."

--George Thorogood

:lmao: I'm with George.

Unfortunately (for my personal tastes, that is) it usually isn't rock and roll; it's usually (c)rap.

I always worry about that - what it's going to do to their hearing in the long term.. I kind of feel the same way about iPods and such.. It's really not good to have any kind of noise that loud or that close to your ear drums..

There's one summer resident up here whose car radio can be heard a quarter of a mile down the main road before he turns on to my road.. It actually "shakes" my place when he drives by! If he's not deaf by the time he's 30, it will be a miracle.. (Not to mention he would NEVER hear an emergency vehicle behind him..:headache:)

I blare my music too. If you're in South Jersey next to a black Saturn Aura with Bob Marley blasting and 2 kids in the back fighting (reason why my music is soo loud), wave to me!

it is a form of a mating call. It attracts the flooziest of girls..... attracted to kids that can afford to spend $5000 on stereo systems. Excuse me, I should have said media systems since they often have DVD players and game consoles....

Mikeeee

$5000 worth of stereo equipment and fancy rims on a POS car that looks like it came from the junkyard? PUH-LEEEZE!!! You spend all that $$$ on that stuff and can't afford a decent car to put it in/on? All I do is laugh in your general direction!!! :rotfl2: Not to mention that they make me think, "DRUG DEALER!" :3dglasses

Definitely attracts the kind of floozy who hangs around street corners late at night.....

Yup! I am one of those kids who blare their music... I will admit it! So next time you roll up to a jeep cherokee with blaring music and realize that it is the song from soarin' or enchanted tiki room or even better songs from disney classics with me singing along at the top of my lungs, wave, it's me! After all, I have to stay awake somehow with a 45 minute commute to work! :cool1:

In my car it could be anything from Godsmack to Veggie Tales...and the kids may or may not even be in the car when it's Veggie tunes. :lmao:

I was going to ask if their windows were down? I do crank my music up when driving when my windows are down because otherwise I can't hear the music over the wind.

HOWEVER, as soon as I get to a stoplight, I'm turning it DOWN since I know it is blaring when at a stop plus I'm pretty sure the people next to me, probably don't want to hear my 80's music anyway (it's bad enough they get to hear it in the stores now!) ;) OR the Disney music I'm playing for the kids. Ha Ha! I'm sure they would LOVE It's a Small World blaring, along with Under the Sea, etc...

I always just assume it's a young guy driving when they have it so loud, with the windows mostly up and it makes my car vibrate. I just hate it when the music has swearing in it & we can hear it. Lovely for my little ones to get to hear while we are at the stoplight. I dread that.
