Why do people have mules?

I'm guessing this is a form of duplicating yourself, but what is the advantage?
I will stop asking questions soon ... I promise :rolleyes1

The reason I use mules is so that I can do several quests more than once (this truly came in handy with the In-Game Pirate Hat Quest last June).

However, some people use them as quick credit fixes (create a mule, type in the codes, trade bought items over to the main character). This is looked down upon by both the DIS and VMK. ;)

Yup..it's like Enmery says. I use mine for the quest items also.
I joined the month before that Pirate Quest...and didn't know or realize about mules then. I sure wish I had bc I would have loved to have them for that quest! But it is mainly so we can get extra quest items. Although I do my dailies on all mine and that way I also have more credits to spend! ;)

There are many, many reasons to have mules .... personally I love them.

I used to have a lot more than I do now because my computer crashed and I lost the log in info (should have had it all written down in one place)and since I did not play them VMK deleted them. Some of which I wish I had back.

I have seasonal mules for Holiday Events like MsSandyClaws and Halloween Sally, other holidays were sadly lost.

I had my Famous Pirates Group all of which were lost to the VMK delete.

I have my Fairies like the ToothFairy, BlueFairytoo(at the time I made my mule you could not have just BlueFairy or Maleficent in any form since them they have been allowed but it seems now VMK is making people change their ids if a Disney title comes first) and the Nightshadefairy.

I have Mules I made to use for exchanges.

And of course I have my Maleficents- CL_Maltoo, Malthedragon, GothicMal and a few more.

Like I said I love all my mules, all have different personalities, and all are fun to play.

I too use them when Quests are available all keep what ever they have to use in their rooms or on their backs. Mules also are good so in case something happens to your main character you have not lost everything. I have too mules that have a lot of stuff not quiet as much as my main but close.

Some think if you are a "Leader" you should never play any character but your main one that is a CL, as you can see I do not think that is true. Leaders have as much right to play the game anyway they choose as anyone else and if they enjoy playing other characters then they should.

All mules have to be played regularly so as not to be deleted by VMK.

VMK does not consider any character played on a regular basis a mule technically.

One other reason for mules is another way to dictionary dance LOL

I have my army of woots, inspired by martydogs wootness!

its the only way to say "someone get me a wootologist, my wootness is off the wootometer" :)

Well I like mine so I can do the quests over again. Like the car and space quests. All my mules are owners of one car pin and diver pin. I use them mainly to collect other items to be used when I run a quest myself. But I can honestly say I play them at least once a week sometimes twice. Which makes them a regular player. All my mules have above 10,000 credits I have not created any since Yavn told us he did not agree with that. But I have kept within the rules and play on weekends half on Sat and half on Sunday :)

I set goals for them. Like ok every mule now has to get above 12,000 next. Makes it fun for me :)

I tried that, but I still can't say Kenny Chesney in VMK. I tried "KennyChesneyFan" "Kenny-Chesney-Fan" everything I could think of. Maybe I'll try Rascal Flatts instead.

I mostly use mine for storage these days. I don't have time to do quests repeatedly.

To echo this, a bunch of Hosts and Staff have mules, just so that they can enjoy the game, without having to worry about the constant onslaught that comes with their position. I'm sure the same goes with CL's. :thumbsup2

We have seven characters between the three of us. Our reasons for having so many are:

1. DD and I made our first characters on the Internet before realizing we could head over to WDW and make characters in the park that had Mickey ears. (2 characters)
2. When we did go to the park, DH was with us so all three of us decided to make a character so we could have the black ears. (3 more characters).
3. DD realized that male characters got some things that the female characters didn't. So she and I wanted to have a male character so we could get some things that were for males only, like the High School Musical outfit for guys. So we headed back to the parks to make our guy characters. (2 more characters).

It is really time consuming keeping up with all seven of them. DD has basically stopped playing on one of her characters except for doing quests. She wasn't even going to do the quests on this character, but I told her she might as well us this character as a bank/storage area.

Mules have so many uses, as you can tell from the previous posts.

There is another reason why some people create mules. When you sign up, there are certain things you can get that can't be bought in the game. Namely, shirts. For girls, there are babydoll dress, pin lanyard and camera shirts.

The pin lanyard (or bling) shirts are very desirable in the game. Some create girl mules to get each color of shirt. Some create them just to trade away. There are many people in the game that either don't know that they can be obtained by creating a new character or they refuse to create new ones.

Boys can get the Ned shirts and sweatshirts by creating a new character.

I'm sure there are other things that are not sold in the game that can be obtained by creating a new character, but I can't remember those right now. :)

I don't agree with using "mules". I think that players who use multiple accounts are exploiting VMK. I learned the hard way how mules can ruin VMK for others. When I first opened my quest, I soon realized the "players" who were winning had to be mules. They would come in, not say a thing, and finish the quest in record time. There was no way an "honest" player could win my quest. I was deeply offended at first, couldn't believe players could be so greedy. Since then, I have now worked out ways to make sure mules don't win all the good prizes. Also, when I see host room queues going over 1000, I wonder how many of those ppl in line are mules? They make it impossible for regular players with one account to get into a host room for a second chance at the prize. Simply not fair. I recently met a player who says he can run 10 accounts at the same time using VMK Pal. He plays pirates against himself to guarantee wins. Made me wonder how many other players do the same. I too have "mule" accounts, but I use them as "guides" for my quest, not to exploit VMK. Since I need to stay in the main room to host quest, I send my helpers out into the other quest rooms to make sure things are going smoothly. Honestly, I wouldn't mind mules so much if some how VMK could limit one account to be logged on at a time from a single IP address. Just my two cents.

We limit the number of mules we have on at one time. Mainly because our computer won't handle more than one at a time. Usually DD will go on with one of her characters on her computer and then I'll go on mine. With the host games, we barely have time to get through with one character, much less all seven. The only quests/games we will do besides the host quests are those that fellow Disers post here. Again, we usually only do it once. If we ever do it a second time, I will go first and then DD will go next, but I don't show her how to do it. I let her figure it out on her own.

how is this any different than a game of "friendly pirates"?

Me and my daughter are often playing at the same time, it would be the same IP. So that wouldnt be fair.

I do totally agree with you on the private quests and when they used to have timed quests rather than the "Q" quests. I would never do it with a players hard earned items in there as prizes.

I don't think I want to even try your quest if "honest" players can't win.
By making quest like that you "force" people to use mules - then you complain about it. :(

I'm not really complaining about him being able to milk credits from POTC (good for you if your computer can handle it, lol). But at least a "friendly" game is between two players, not really exploiting the game IMHO. If VMK wanted you to be able to win credits by playing by yourself, they would make the AI ships worth something when you sink them. Obviously they want you to play with other ppl, not just yourself. Also, when I heard this, it made me realize that some ppl can play so many accounts at the same time that they could really clog up queues for host rooms. It also made me wonder how many other ways players might be able to exploit things in VMK. Opened my eyes.

Well when first joined vmk ..we learned all from our son. Je didn't tell us about mules and so we were didn't make a new one for a few months after we had been on. Then I realized more on mules and what they were and then decided to make on at the park..so i could get my sister (who lives in Utah) balck ears. Well one thing led to another..and we have made a total 4 each.
Again I used them at first for quest and getting things. We also created aboy for me and girl for my DH! So we could get the girls and boys stuff. But now I have come to the conclusion that I like all my mules..and now for the first time they all have over 6 thousand credits...(nowhere near as my manin one.)
But I too have set goals for each of them! And working hard to get them all things of their own. But now it's fun..alot of work bc I have to get them all doing the quest..or our dailies... or the host games... But is fun to give them all personality different hairs colors.. ;)

And thanks Mel..didn't realize if we use them every week that vmk considers them not mules! :) Oh you had some really cool ideas for your mules... wow.. loved reading about them!

Wow..this person can do ten mules at a time on vmk pal...how???
I only know to do two? :confused3

But I too agree that having mules can be alot of fun...if you jsut play the game to have fun..which most of do!!

I also think that there is nothing wrong with a CL or Staff having extra mules? They are just like us? Except for one..so many people don't leave them alone and so they have to get away so they to can have fun! ;)

I'm not sure you understand :( When I first made a quest, I was ignorant of "mules". So I was surprised how quickly some players finished it (even better than my own time, and I know the task answers). That's when I learned about "mules" and was greatly dissapointed because I wanted "honest" players to win and not someone using a second or third account who wanted the good prizes. Now, I don't normally host timed quests because "mules" always win. As soon as someone sees there's a good prize, the room fills up their with "mules". Since they already know the quest, they always get the best time. An "honest" player doesn't stand a chance. Now, I try to award the best prizes randomly as best I can. But I don't see how I can "force people to use mules". What did I do to cause this?

I am sorry you were taken advantage of. I do not do players quests not even with CL_Maltoo, my main, and even if I did I would not use my other characters to rape another player of their hard earned prizes. I can not see how you could personally know though who is a secondary character and who is a main.

I also do not believe that anyone can play 10 accts at one time and especially do not believe that you can play pirates against yourself since you have to move every few seconds or get kicked out of the game.

Seems you somewhat want your cake and eat it too?

I can only speak for myself, I play 1 Character at a time unless I am on trading between my characters.

Like Aengus my DS plays and we often play together on separate computers so if VMK limited us to one player online together at a time then I think we would just stop playing all together for the principle of it.
