Why Do People Get Married On The Beach?

In New England? I am going to a wedding on Cape Cod this Sunday. The ceremony and reception are on the beach. Our weather is so variable and late August can be tricky. Sure enough, Hurricane Bill will be passing by. Should be interesting!

That goes for ANY outside wedding or event here in New England....not just beach weddings!

A DF of mine was in the wedding party of one of these and came home with hilarious stories. The poor bride had envisioned a soap opera wedding on a set but life just wouldn't co-operate. The Ushers had to chase the decorations down the beach and guests had to hold the alter in place from being tossed down the beach by the wind.

Another problem is shoes. A different friend of mine went to one of these this year and because the bride didn't think of a platform for guests all the guests were forced to remove their shoes. Cocktail dresses and full makeup but barefoot with windswept hair.

This is just one of those things that looks better on paper than in practice.

I agree. We live in NE as well and I would never take a chance with the weather. The weather could me pretty severe on Sunday.....hope they have a back-up plan. I also hate getting dressed up for a wedding on the beach only to be covered in sand for the rest of the day.....

at first I was thinking "Man...whats wrong with it..I totally want a beach wedding!"...but, I've never been up there.
I'm thinking Florida, Islands, Gulf... that way for a beach wedding. And, I'd make sure it was a good time of year

See I am finding myself planning my outfit around my shoes, or shall I say sandals (that will be kicked off). So that means no cocktail dress for me, now it must be a casual dress. And DH thinks he is wearing a sport coat, and I said..."a sport coat, nice pants and bare feet?" I think he should wear khakis and a tropical print shirt, bare feet will look better with that.

Sounds like she had this romanticized version of what her wedding would be like. But hurricane season was not a good time to plan it. I feel sorry for her, no one wants to have their wedding rained on, but she really should have been a bit more realistic when she planned it.

Sandals are a smart option!! Maybe a swimsuit under the dress so you can go for a nice dip afterwards?

Perfect!! Could you imagine the look on the brides face if you showed up in those? OP, my DH has some you can borrow if you need any. I think he may have an extra pair for your DH also.

If we lived where we live now when we were married, we definitely would have had a beach wedding.

As it is, we had an inland outdoor wedding - in September, Indian Summer - and it was beautiful.

why do people care? if it is what the couple wants....most wedding coordinators will have a back up room for inclement weather.

we got married here in Fl on the beach and then again in Jamaica on the beach....it was Dec and the weather was iffy but our day was perfect.

I've never been to one but I'd someday enjoy attending a wedding on the beach. However, in the OP's position, with the looming possibility of standing on a beach in a hurricane with the tide still in, I'd probably wonder what the couple was thinking, too.

To me that sounds awesome. youngest DD brings up getting married at DW when the times comes. (many years from now) I envision it on the beach by the Poly. Doubt though that they would agree to a clambake though.

This will be a very memorable wedding. The bride can say even mother nature is not going to stop me from getting married!

The cape is right at the edge of the cone for Sunday. If the track moves westward at all part of the hurricane could pass right over. Even if it just passes by high waves and partial beach erosion can be possible.

I counted at least 8 couples getting married on the little bluff to the right of the Poly beach during our stay there. I don't know how it works. I've heard that Disney is very strict about using their own people (cha ching ).

Inside/outside, doesn't really matter if the storm is bad enough. I'm sure they have inside backup plans. If they'd planned to be inside on a beautiful day, people would be wondering why they didn't do it outside.

I got married during a snow/ice storm in an area that very rarely has such things. There's really no way to plan the weather.

I hear you. cha ching fully understand. like I said it is a ways off since she is only 15. even at 15 though they do talk about their "future" weddings.

My youngest is 10. She already talks about her wedding. She hates big and fancy and is planning on jeans, and a pig roast--Yay for our wallet
