Why do people feel good when they report posts?

Sure, and I've had plenty over the years. The worst are always the ones where you never even suspected your comment would outrage anyone.

True dat...I posted the other day in a very non-controversial thread started by another DIS'er with whom I am usually very much in accord. Something must have been lost in the translation; I was totally surprised when it started to get snippy...(Note to self: must use more POSITIVE emoticons...):wave2::goodvibes:flower3::laughing:

It's easy to get slammed on The Dis. Funny really. I got slammed once for buying my daughter and "H" belt buckle from Hermes. Amazing that anyone would care enough to even have something bad to say.

ok- I have been sitting here thinking and thinking--what is wrong with buying a belt buckle from Hermes????

My worst Disbeating came from a thread on the Orlando Hotels board where I had the audacity to give a negative review of an offsite time/share place. People on that thread were so outraged, went thru all my old posts that had nothing to do with that thread to vilify me. Demanded that I be banned, etc.

I suspect they owned one of the timeshares at this place...,

I like that word..."Disbeating"... :thumbsup2

Isn't it ridiculous when some posters go back through people's old posts and bring stuff up that happened years ago? I know they do it just to be mean, but don't they realize it makes them look like bratty little grade school children? And I always wonder if they do that sort of thing to their spouses/significant others, friends, etc. :(

I find it utterly ridiculous and childish that people report posts, especially if you are not on the direct receiving end of such post. I mean really, grow up. I have just never understood the mentality behind it. If the poster in question doesn't have an issue with it, then why should anyone else care. :confused3

I'm late to this thread but I feel the same way. I have never reported anyone here, but more importantly I make a point to be respectful of others in my posts. I wish everyone would do that.

I am relatively new on the DIS boards. How do you know if you get reported? Are you told which post was the offender? And how do you know who the moderators are? What do the points signify?

No. The mods will message you of you got points or a warning and they will tell you a generic why and what post it was. It's not hard to guess though sometimes who reported you if you are given points.

You will not always know if you have been reported. You will only know if you have had a post deleted, received a warning from a mod, or received points from a mod. Not all reports merit further action, as a couple of the PPs (who are mods) have noted. If you are wrist slapped by a mod, you will receive a PM notification. Most forums will have a list of the active moderators for that thread somewhere on the forum mainpage.

As for points, and what they signify, here is a link to the Disboards posting guidelines: http://www.wdwinfo.com/guidelines.htm

I am on late at night and early in the morning many times and will report spam, I figured we don't need lots of posts telling us how to get sneakers for cheap!

This!

And when a poster will post something , and other posters on the Dis will bring up how they have the writing style and sarcasm as a poster who was banned or mysteriously doesnt come on the Dis anymore.

Really? How do .people even remember other posters? I have way more important things to remember.

Keep in mind those are just guidelines. They can give you more points if they want than what is listed, e.g,, you can get 30 points for a political post even though it says 20.

I've only reported spam. But, someone not only reported me, they told me they did. They said I called them a name. Nope, I didn't. I used the words "sad" and "pathetic". But what I said was basically that they didn't trust anyone and that was sad and pathetic. I got no points, but the thread was locked for review and never reopened. :rotfl:

I do not get the way people take words from strangers personally. BTW, anyone who thinks everyone who gets points deserves them needs to remember that mods are humans and have their own personal opinions.

Kind of reminds me of the football story I heard today. After a football game where one team won 91-0, a parent on the losing team said the winning team was "bullying" them even though the winning team pulled their starters and played their less than best players. Seriously?

Just for the sake of accuracy it wasn't the losing team that complained it was the parents of the winning team because the coach attempted to have the players hold back and stop the slaughter by threatening his player to get them to allow the other team to score. It is a classic example of being probably the worst winners in history. Don't just beat them humiliate them, wonderful attitude. Anyway!!!

I agree with you. MOST moderators, like yourself, are fair and are just doing their job. There is one, unfortunately, that has extreme biases and stalking tendencies.

That's pretty obvious! You won't get me to debate that call.

I'm going to hell for laughing at this aren't I?

I agree. Takes all kinds to make the world go 'round.

That is indeed the bulk of the problem and it has to do with different people with different senses of humor. I have a very dark sense of humor. In fact just last week I was playing golf and a guy I didn't know just up and dropped dead on the 3rd tee. The guy was only 7 years older then me so I suppose I should have gone all solemn and introvertedly depressed, but I didn't know him and I only saw him from a few hundred yards away, so instead, and I probably will go to hell for this, all I could think of was a joke that I had heard.

Seems this guy got home from his weekly golf match quite late and his wife asked him what took him so long. He replied that Joe, one of his golf partners, had a heart attack and died on the second hole. His wife replied, OMG that is awful, I can see why you're late. There must have been a lot of questions and paperwork. He then replied, well, it wasn't that so much but what really took the time was we had to hit a shot, drag him to the next hole, hit again, drag him some to the next, for 17 holes.

Even I thought that having that come to mind was evil, but there it was. I even had to refrain from repeating it in the club house. They had taken on a much more somber viewpoint by then.

BTW, does anyone have any idea why this thread is still running? I'd report it but I'm kinda enjoying it so it will have to be someone else, I guess.

Thank you if the person can ignore it or let it slide why can't everyone else
