Why do people care where we go on vacation?

To answer the OP:

Why do people care where we go on vacation?

Because we tell them!

When people hear that we're again going to WDW (my DH can't help telling one and all:rotfl: ) one of our "favorite" questions (not!!!) is: Aren't you guys too old for the rides?
Yep! That's what we get. There are so many people who don't see WDW other than a fancy Coney Island!:confused3 Maybe THAT's the "best-kept secret":rotfl2: .
We find our trips to WDW to be the most relaxing vacations we take but............I must confess...............we're still "ride" addicts (oh T of T, how we miss you!!!):teeth:

Just subscribing...this thread is my life on a daily basis! :rotfl2:

This also happens to me ALL the time and I always feel the need to explain...We have AP's, we're DVC members so we don't pay for hotels, we live 6 hours away so we don't have the expense of flights, all we pay for is food and drink...it's the most affordable vacation we can take! Last year we went Jan, Apr, July, Sept and Dec. and had to justify to alot of jealous people or people that just don't get it. Maybe one day I'll get it and know that I don't have to explain or justify why we love to go!!:confused3

We have definitely gotten that attitude from people who just don't understand how wonderful it is to walk into a Disney park and let your cares go away for awhile! !pixiedust:

We've been going to WDW for so long that friends, family and coworkers EXPECT that that is where we'll be going. My favorite comment was from my boss not too long ago. He assumed we take our nieces and nephew to WDW every time we go. We don't! His question was "don't the kids ever get sick of going to WDW?" I had to tell him that we don't think so because most of the time DH and I go alone! Who needs kids to enjoy Disney? :rotfl: Now he really thinks I'm nuts.

I vote that people who feel the need to comment about choices for vacations, what kind of cars people drive, what kind of clothes they wear and other personal information is that it makes them feel superior. And, somebody who has that desperate a need to feel superior that they're going to crack on where I take vacation deserves my compassion-they have a very small life.

Put me in the group that says, "we're going to Florida." Plus, when I say we have a timeshare, I don't usually elaborate that it's DVC, unless pressed.

I live very close to Disneyland and have an annual pass. Some of my friends at work tend to tease me about how much we go to DL. What I found funny is that my friend (who's way cool and was a good natured teaser) just got an AP before New Years, and wanted to go back to DL this past Sunday. She "admitted" that she got why we would go so much. You don't have to be a Disney fanatic to enjoy what DL and WDW have to offer...

Allison,

My family is in the same boat. We have AP's to DLR and WDW. We go to DLR about once a month for the weekend, and WDW 3 times a year. Some people just don't get it. I have buddies that take their families to Glamis (In CA Desert) every weekend, and every vacation to ride motorcycles. No one hassles them.

We get the same thing. We almost get to the point we don't want to tell anyone until I realized that the same people making the comments didn't go anywhere. Hmmmm:rolleyes1

We also get "why aren't you visiting family instead WDW?" Hmmm:rolleyes1

We're new DVC members but have done our share of Disney vacations since '03. We just bought 'cuz we were starting to plan our next trip to WDW for this summer...but of course we also get the same comments when you say WDW (yes, again)! Some ppl just don't like rides - so they don't see the fun in it. We also try to go to Hawaii once every 5 yrs. - and we get the same exact response (Hawaii - AGAIN?) I know a lot of ppl who are "cruise people" who do several cruises a year - OK - we like cruises too but can't afford to be "cruise people". We also live only 3 hrs. from O.C., MD so there's an extremely high % of ppl in this area who go there on vac. - year after year. Hey. That's what they grew up doing & that's what they're gonna do for the rest of their lives. That's their thing. We like to go down every once in awhile too. But it's not our thing to go make it our annual vacation.

Our son has been a ride fanatic since he was like 2. His first "big" coaster was Space Mountain and his first "loop-d-loop" was Aerosmith Rock 'N Roller Coaster. Those were BIG deals for him! We have a place in the garage where we measure his height right before each trip 'cuz he's always just so-o-o close to making the height requirements. Each trip is a different experience. I wouldn't trade our first trip with him for anything. It was so cool to see him meet the characters & want to get their autographs - ppl who don't go when their kids are young (and I know plenty who use that excuse) 'cuz they think it would be too much of a hassle just don't understand what they're missing. Just like they outgrow Santa - they outgrow the excitement of meeting the characters. If you wait for the youngest one to be older then the oldest is too old to appreciate that aspect. Anyway, each time we go it's a different kind of trip. And it's one that will be diff. every single time we go for the next 47 years!

We love Disney. I think a lot of ppl who make these comments have never actually stayed on-site at a Disney property. They THINK they're saving enormous amts. of money by staying 3 mi. down the road - but they're not (really) and they're missing out on the WHOLE Disney magic - they don't understand the convenience & the Disney hospitality. They don't see what a great value it really is - it costs a fortune to go to our annual County Fair for an evening - you go 'cuz it's the County Fair & that's just what you do every year. But you get so much more bang for your buck at WDW. When I was a kid we went to FL in like '73 when it was just the Magic Kingdom & we pulled a camper & stayed in some RV park & as kids it was great - but when I look back...WOW. NO comparison.

ANYWAY. I don't KNOW why ppl care & I started out this post just 'cuz I know the feeling but if I really cared what anybody was going to say, we wouldn't have just bought a piece of the mouse!! We wanted to be sure our Grandkids could afford the same thing in 25 or 30 years and WOW have I rambled. Sorry guys....

My friends away from DIS just don't understand me!!! they say "Disney again":confused3 :confused3 :confused3

it's nice to be able to come here and be understood...

This should be called DAF...Disney Addics Forum..instead of DIS.

So thank you my fellow addicts...:thumbsup2 I would be Disney lost without you!!!!

I can assure you, you are not alone! Many, many people have posted on this board how people react to their going to WDW by saying..."AGAIN???"

Personally, I think that many, many people think WDW is a chore more than a fun time. It is something to do with the kids so they can say they went once. People don't read up on it, don't use FP or EMH and then complain loudly that WDW is the biggest ripoff in the world.

For those people, they will never comprehend that adults would want to return there time and again.

For others, WDW is "just a couple of theme parks" and can't see repeat vacations to theme parks. After all, once you've seen them and done the rides that's it, right? Again, they don't understand all that WDW has to offer.

My response, as suggested by many on this board, is to counter with " Are you going to the beach/lake/skiing/golfing/etc vacation AGAIN???" Once I use that phrase (only on the annoying ones) they tend to back off. :)

What really gets me is what you alluded to in your post...
I'm sure you grin and bear it, but I'd tell SIL (doesn't deserve the "D" in front of that) to have fun on her vacation. You know you will on yours! :)

"You said it Granny!"
My brother told my mom on several occasions that we are "obsessed" with Disney! I waited for the opportunity one day when he was talking about one of his Quad riding trips that his family does. They take at least 4 per year and they usually go to 3 of the same places every time!
I chuckled and said, "You must be obsessed with Quad riding!"
I just couldn't help myself! My brother hasn't made that comment again, though!:rolleyes1
The sad thing about it is, his 3 girls would love to go to WDW!

A lot of people don't realize how much there is to do in Orlando. Number 1, the weather is terrific pretty much most of the year. And for us, it's very economical to fly into Orlando price wise. And then you add in the terrific resorts in Orlando, theme parks, shopping, and golf, and you've got an outstanding warm place to go to get away from cold Indiana winters. A 1 hour and 50 minute flight and we're there. :)

You are so right! Not only Orlando, but Florida has so much to offer! We always do something besides Disney, but spend most of our time there. Florida has magnificent natural springs to snorkel and dive in, fabulous white sandy beaches, and don't forget about the Keys, which we will be trying out next trip!
Can I just say, I am so jealous that you are only 1 hour and 50 minutes away!

DITTO!
My DH's parents are in Idaho and his dad is retired. We live in OR. My DH's sister lives in Oklahoma and they go visit her once in a while. The have been to our house once and passed through about twice in 15 years. They are always asking for us to come there! It would really be much easier for the two of them to come to us, since my husband and I both work many Saturdays and we have a child in school! We generally get one vacation a year and go for about 17 days.

His dad used to tell us to let him know when we were going to go back to WDW, because he wanted to go. Well, we did and they didn't, and they went on an Alaskan Cruise instead. I think my MIL was a little put out when we didn't go on this "family" trip. She always sounds a little bugged when she asks for us to come and we say that we are going to Disney. I just found out they are planning a Hawaiian Cruise, so I don't feel that bad anymore. I think it is great, if that is what they want to do, but don't try and make us feel guilty, because we go where we want to go!

Sorry, if that was too much information!:rotfl:

I totally agree I have the same problem friends and family who say "again"

But all that matters to me is the excitment my DS(7) still has when we go.

It always feels like the first time when I book a trip.

So I say as long as it makes our family happy that's what really matters!

( I needed that )

I get this all the time. I also tell my coworkers I am going to FL, and often add that I will be visiting DSIL in Naples. Somehow that makes them stop giving me the "look", Disney? Again??:confused3

I also have been going to a cottage Up North (WI) every summer for 10+ years, I never get that response, Again?, because so many people that live in metro Milwaukee go on the same vacation. Why would anyone think that is not normal?:confused3

I would never say to a someone going on a deer hunting trip/Canadian fishing trip/Dells waterpark trip, you are going back Again? :confused3

 I love all my vacations, for different reasons. I have been traveling all of my life, thanks to my family being spread around the country. I hope to be fortunate to be able to continue to travel, including returning to Disney 1-2 times/year.princess:

My most recent trips other than Disney have been to Bahamas, Colorado, AZ including Tucson/Sedona/Phoenix/Grand Canyon, Washington DC. DH and I have planned trips to Spring Training AZ, and family trip to Las Vegas to celebrate the 21st birthday of our youngest child. party:

I work hard, as does my husband, so why not enjoy the time away from work. Live your life, savor the moments of time you have with family and friends. Life is a gift meant to be enjoyed.:beach:princess:
