Why do I not see Boardwalk mentioned as often as DTD and the parks?

It's great if you are staying in the area, not so much if you aren't.

We stay in that area and hotel bar hop between Beach Club, Yacht Club, Boardwalk and Swan/Dolphin. It's a fun evening with a nice walk between drinks/stops.:)

I agree with a previous comment that it's the same as visiting any deluxe resort. If visiting resorts appeals to you, then you will like it.

No reservations at Jellyrolls. Do get there early because they have few tables which can fill up quickly. Also, to my knowledge, they don't serve food so definitely make this an after dinner thing.

The first time we visited the Boardwalk, we were all set after about 30 minutes. Now, instead of going back to our room during our mid-day break on our Epcot day, we'll go over to the Boardwalk and get lunch at ESPN Club (no ADRs taken here) and maybe stroll around for a bit. Definitely not worth going out of your way for, and not a way to spend a whole evening.

When we have dinner there (Kouzzina or Flying Fish), we like to walk around, play carnival games, etc. The "sights" take up maybe 15-20 minutes. I wouldn't go there at all if I weren't having dinner there. It's charming, really picturesque, but there's not too much to do. I would bet most of the people out on the boardwalk are either (a) staying at a resort in the area or (b) coming or going from dinner or (c) both.

The boardwalk doesn't do anything for us. We stay at the BCR and go over once....maybe. It just doesn't have anything there that excites us.

Is it worth walking around with my kids after a dinner at Beaches & Cream?

Absolutely...

In fact I would say that is exactly what the Boardwalk is best for.. killing some time and enjoying a very nice setting.

We always have liked doing a "cheap" day at Disney where you get the Disney experience but without having to pay to get in the parks.

The Boardwalk is our go to spot to end the night on these days. Grab a very tasty corn dog and fries for an inexpensive dinner. Walk by the Yacht Club pool and get dessert at Beaches N' Cream. Enjoy the street performers and watch the Illuminations Fireworks. Then finish off the night at Jellyrolls.
