Why do I have points in holding account

I have 37 point in holding account how did they get there? Am I right they expire in aug(aug uy)? Also the last night of my vacation in October I booked a two Ned for 37 points and when I got there they upgraded us because they needed our room ( after we moved in). If they gave my point back for the night would they go in holding? I will call member services but I would like to have a basic understanding before I do.

If they went into holding, they will expire at the end of your current use year. If that's August, they will expire July 31.

Using holding points is a lot more restrictive than using regular points.

If you didn't cancel or change a reservation causing points to be returned to your account, it sounds like an error. If the resort had DVC refund points to you, it is possible they were put into holding, but I would hope you would be able to get that fixed since it really wasn't your doing. I'm not sure why the resort would refund points if they upgraded you?

Basically things done at and by the resorts can screw up your points.

Thanks for the reply. I do not know why they would refund points for an upgrade either but it was the same amount of points so I thought maybe they did. I will call annd see what I can find out

Glad I called it was an error they made when my waitlist came in. They returned my points to my account. I better keep a closer eye on my points

To answer your original question, points go into a holding account when you cancel a reservation (or part of a reservation) 1 to 30 days before check-in.
