Why do dogs feet smell like Fritos????

DH noticed the dogs' feet smelling like Fritos back in 2005. Playing with the dog lying down and caught a whiff. Our realtor (who was helping us buy the home we are in now) also had collies (three of them) and he mentioned it to her on one of our house-hunting Saturdays. We didn't know if it was just our dogs or a collie thing or what. She called us later that night and confirmed that her collies had Frito-toes, too

This is too funny. I just said last night that our dog's, Anna, feet smelled like Frito's. They used to smell like popcorn when she was a puppy.

Yes, our dog's feet smell like Fritos. No, you don't have to get anywhere near his feet to smell them either. It happens mostly in the winter so I figure it has something to do with his paws getting wet all the time from the snow.

Ok, I smelled them and yes, they smell somewhere between fritos and regular tortilla chips.

All of the Jack Russells that i have owned had Frito-smelling feet. My Russell owning friends tell me the same thing.
My Golden Retrievers feet just smell like...like...dog feet.

They do. I told DH that before but he refused to confirm my opinion!

I will admit to sniffing the dog’s feet occasionally….I never pinpointed it on Fritos though.

I googled and didn't find anythng definitive, but there seem to be two theories:

1. yeast
2. corn based dog foods

I have wondered the same thing for years actually. I thought it was just my dogs that had special frito smelling feet. I suppose there are worse smells that come from my dog (well actually, I know there are worse smells sometimes)

I wonder if I'll be able to smell his feet over his puppy stink that never goes away, even right after I give him a bath?

Looks like our dog has company with the "frito feet". Both DD's have always said that is exactly what they smell like. They both got a kick out of knowing someone has posted about it on the Disboards.
