Why do American Disney fans hate Universal?

Disney is where it all began and there is just a magical quality about being there that isn't in any other park IMO.

I do enjoy Universal, it's different so I generally don't compare the two because of their differences. Each has some great attractions. For me, I FEEL a sense of wonder while in Disney that I don't at Universal. At Universal I just have fun.

My family really enjoys both. We usually go for 8 times at a time and spent 2 days at universal and 6 days at WDW. Disney has the Magic but Universal has great thrill rides.

I have mixed feelings about Universal. I like Disney a lot more but as someone who is a coaster enthusiast, the Disney coasters just don't do it for me. The first time I rode Everest and RNR I thought they were good rides but I didn't get that blown away feeling I got from riding other amazing coasters. Universal has the type of coasters I want.

On the other hand, I don't like how Universal isn't as family oriented especially IoA. Other than a few rides in Seuss Landing, there is basically nothing for my family to ride in the park (when we take a family trip to a regular amusement park, I almost always ride alone on the coasters).

I guess what I would like to see is Disney build an inverted coaster like Dueling Dragons and I wouldn't see a need to go to Universal as much.

I think everyone can find something they'll like (and dislike) at both venues.

There's already enough hate in this world -- save yours for something special.

Oh, I forgot, another thing I like about Universal is never having to worry about those dumb buses! You can walk absolutely everywhere there!

I sure can sympathize with that. My household was at Disney World last year and at Disneyland in 2006. I really appreciated how much more pedestrian-friendly Disneyland was. With the population aging, a good way to attract some of that growing market would be to stress how pedestrian-friendly Universal Studios supposedly is.

To be angry at people for prefering Disney over Universal is silly. It is a no-brainer than both Disney's and Universal Studios' marketing personnel are on this web site trying to influence public opinion. Why either side would get angry at the fans for expressing an opinion is beyond me. The fans are telling you precisely how to steal the other side's thunder.

Universal fans like Universal better. Disney isn't horrible and I don't think most of us have said that.

Telling people to get over it is not very polite.

It is annoying when someone posts things about Universal and you can tell by their posts that they've never even been.

We don't have to worry about the number of people in line because we stay onsite and have no lines.

Maybe telling people to get over it isn't very polite(although, I never claimed to be Miss Manners ) but it's not very polite to talk down to people because they don't agree with you. How can you " tell" by someones posts that they've never been to Universal? Are Universal fans psychic now too?

I'll say it again, there are people that have different preferences and if someone doesn't like it, they need to get over it, suck it up, put on their big girl panties and deal with it etc.

Why does it matter so much if someone doesn't want to go to Universal? Even if they've never been and are trash talking it, I fail to see how this should bother anyone?

Our First Experience with US and Islands of Adventure (IS that what it is still called? It has been quite a few years!) was pretty bad. We stood in lines to ride with signs posted 75 min waits and when we finally saw the light of day....the ride would break down. We were chased out of line only for the ride to reopen back up in 15 minutes. We had this happen 3 times and spent most of our day in lines. This was before their fast pass type system though so I don't know if things have changed. I also recall many lines in the sun and heat. There were water sprayers but the sun was a killer in the summer.

I have never got stuck on a ride at US but have been stuck on SM, POTC and IASW(absolute torture) Saying that I love both parks equally despite their diferences.

2) I don't think they check their rides as well. (We went a couple weeks ago, and got stuck on rides 50% of the time.)

I don't think anyone is bashing because other people don't like Universal or agree.... Universal DISers get defensive when facts are misrepresented....just like anyone who loves Disney would bring on the defense if any WDW facts were incorrect.

I would have totally replied to sherabby's post the same way eyckmans did. I personally have never been stuck on a ride at UO (& we are AP holders and have ridden Universal attractions quite a lot)...but, I have also been at Disney (though, not as much as Universal) and been stuck plenty of times. They are facts. When sherabby posted their bad experience with this at Universal, the post comes across as "that never happens at Disney" and leads you to believe it doesn't, but does all the time at Universal.

I really don't notice any bashing....everyone has a different opinion to present and that's fine...BUT if anyone posts a fact that is not true, be it a Universal or Disney fact, you can bet someone will post to correct it.

Once my boys were old enough for roller coaster type rides, we visited each US parks one day each. But, we went to Disney 10 days. We have been fortunate enough to have enough time to do both. US is fun, but I agree with other posters that have said it just doesn't have the magic of Disney for us.

I think one of the answers to the original poster's question could be in the advertising. US compares themselves to Disney in their advertising. So, that sets up people wanted to "take sides".

I feel that yes, Disney does have a magical feeling. But, I think IOA is close and might gain it with Harry Potter. I also feel that, on the whole, Universal's rides are way better. I'd say Spiderman is the best ride in the Orlando area, with a tie between the Hulk and ToT for second place. Also, Terminator 3-D is the most technologically advanced show I've ever seen, but I understand how it wasn't built for young children, whereas Mickey's Philarmagic, imo the best show at Disney, is.

Which park I go to honestly depends on what I feel like that day. I went to US/IOA in the spring; in a week I'm heading over to Epcot, which, hands down, is my favorite park ever. However, I'd choose US/IOA over DHS and AK any day.

I think that a lot of it is because of the "magic" of Disney.
I may be crazy but, when I drive through the arches to enter Disney and when I walk down Main Street USA and see the castle you just get this instant feeling of happiness, and you feel like you're at home. It may just be the fact that I have grown up with Disney and have been going annually since the age of 6 mo. But, when I walk into US/IOA I don't feel that home, or instant happiness I feel an adrinaline rush and I feel the need for speed, thrills, and frights. I enjoy US/IOA very much, but for me Disney just is a differnt type of park, it isn't just a park for some people it is really honestly their second home.

Its not that I hate Universal. Mind you, I have never been to the one in Orlando. The one in California is a huge disappointment. There are no special attractions like what Disney has. Oh wow, Jurassic Park log ride. Oh wow, The Mummy Roller Coaster which seems like a terrible copy of Indiana Jones. Oh wow lets rehash back to the future as The Simpsons Ride.

Were going to visit Universal Orlando anyway, because I want to ride Dueling Dragons and The Incredible Hulk. Too bad Harry Potter Land (or what ever its called) wont open for a while. I want to check that out too.

One thing I wish Universal would do is make it more interesting when I am not riding any rides. The last few times we went in September the parks where almost ghosttowns like Disney's were only less busy. So rides were all walk-on-10 minute waits. Well getting rides done early in Disney means we'll go like Tom Sawyer's Island or Innoventions... at Universal, there's nothing like that.

A lot of the time, we'll be done by 4 or 5 and then go see a movie at the theater us we wait for the Mears bus.
