Why do American Disney fans hate Universal?

^^ The Mummy and The Simpsons are incredible!! SO is the Hulk, I am in love with that coaster, and Spiderman
The one thing I like about Universal, like during the Horror Makeup show
They said to my son, "This isn't Disney, we don't have to be nice to you here" :lmao:
They are just different, and I can respect that and love them both for what they are.

OK, I've noticed something. For the most part, the people who have said they prefer Disney seem to be very polite about the whole thing. Many of us have said we don't HATE Universal, we just like WDW better.

Some(not all) of the Universal lovers seem to get very defensive about this. Little snide comments get made(won't mention anyone specifically here) comparing the people who don't care for/aren't interested in Universal to "soccer moms", 3 year olds who are picky eaters, etc.

These people need to get over it already...you like what you like, we like what we like. I can say that if these people represent the majority of the guests who frequent Universal, then it certainly isn't endearing me to the idea of going there. :sad2:

I do not thing Disney is perfect, just as I don't think Universal sucks. Just not my cup of tea...I'd think the Universal groupies would be happy about this..less people in line at their favorite park.:confused3

There is disney nostalgia, all the stories and characters you've grown to love. But for me Disney screams family, most rides you can all ride together no matter what age you are. Universal is mostly bigger, faster, wilder rides, which is great too, but if you are going with small kids it may not be the best choice. But i think it's more of a general good feeling you get while at disney, you walk in and smile because the disney "magic" just hits you. I love disney, i like universal. When faced with a decision to which park, i will always pick disney. Maybe when my kids are older we'll try universal again.

I love US/IOA. IMHO they have the best 2 rides ever...Spiderman and The Mummy!

Although I don't think you were talking about me, the only time I get critical is if someone judges it without having gone there. I personally don't care if they ever go, it just seems that it would be good to encourage them to give the place a try. The comparison of three year olds isn't that far off, if you can get past the age thing, it simply means that kids that age will reject, off hand certain foods without ever trying them. As a parent you feel that if only they would try it. they might like it. That would be the only scenario that would go with that statement that I can fathom.

Our family loves them both! We do love Disney more, it's bigger, more to do. But US/IOA is awesome too! I love the US resorts, I wish they weren't so expensive now. We stayed at HRH club level for $150 a night! Great resort! Can't afford it now though.

Hm what else won't you ever see at Disney? Trash! Wait, I've seen trash at Disney. Bad service! I've had a guy at Country Bears ignore me when I asked about a refurb at the attraction, and a Splash Mountain girl was sitting on a railing at the Greeter position. I also had a Jungle Skipper be the most boring I've ever encountered, and had a Big Thunder Mountain host say "you cant wait for the back, get on, and get off."
Wow... I agree with someone about US Entertainment and you decide to turn this into some sort of anti-Frontierland-Operations-CM assault. Er... ok. But honestly... you should see a chiropractor. I'm sure the weight of that huge chip on your shoulder must be playing hell with your back.
Also, the coasters that Universal buys have certain seat requirements. The maufacturer of the rides have allowed certain seats with longer seatbelts to accomodate more guests. This is on Dragons and Hulk. Mummy has to be able to see a piece of yellow tape down on the restraints foot rest.
So you're confirming that US doesn't, in fact, have control over the design of their attractions. Well, there's a comforting thought. :sad2:
WHere else do I get good service? I have great service at Quiznos! There's no mouse slapped across that one! I get good service at Olive Garden, nope not Disney either! Point is, Disney is NOT perfect. NOT. Wait.... I said it. Better take cover, hell might freeze over, or the soccer moms may get us all.
I've never claimed that Disney is perfect. But I think it's rather sad that you can't defend US on it's own merits... rather, you respond with complaints about Disney.

Honestly; if you hate Disney so much (and virtually every single post you've ever made here on the DIS is anti-Disney in some way), why do you come here and post, if it's not to Troll?

We love both as well. I think Islands of Adventure, theming wise, is incredible, I was kind of blown away.

Disney has that downhome family charm. Universal is lacking it just a smidge. Most of the castmembers were nicer than over at Universal too, we noticed a distinct difference. Having said that, we enjoy both parks immensely and will continue to do them both each trip.

1st let me say I love both companys and their parks. Disney seems more for families and smaller kids, (and the small kid in each of us) US seems more for teens and younger adults. But this whole "Disney Stinks - Universal Stinks" stuff is nuts IMO. I also ride motorcycles and have ridden and owned Honda's and Harleys. Both great machines but people who ride Harley's generally put down Hondas as being "not a man's bike" and Honda people put down Harleys as unreliable and over priced! I love both brands of motorcycle and love Universal and Disney. It blows my mind how some people seem to feel the need to compete and put down the competition to make themselves feel better about their opinion or purchase decision. One thing doesn't have to be bad for something else to be good. ;) Both or all things can have good and bad attributes and it comes down to to a personal decision what you prefer. Can't we all just get along?? ;) When i go to Orlando i take a "Disney trip" but I never go without also doing Universal. Disney isn't perfect, Universal isn't perfect ... and neither an "I." Peace brothers and sisters! :hippie:

My wife will kill me if she ever see this but.....

Disney fans feel threatened by Universal because the quality of the attractions at Universal are so much higher then at Disney. My wife started to hate Universal around the time our son (12) became bored at Disney. He's 14 now and he didn't even want to come with us on our trip to Disney this year.

Oh, and if one more "next year we'll do Universal/Sea World/Bush Gardens Tampa" becomes another Disney trip it's off to divorce court.

We love them both. They have different "feels" and different vibes. As does SW and Busch Gardens. We do ALL of them and Disney will always have a special spot just because as a mid-30's guy, I have grown up with disney. The both have Customer service issues at times, trash or dirty restrooms at times...love them all.

Agreed!

All My Opinions...
I don't hate Universal, it is a fun amusement park. The rides are good, some of the themeing is good. But we have good rides closer to home, for me Disney is more than just an amusement park. Yes, we like the rides, but it is a feeling we get when we are there. A comfortable, welcoming, where we belong kind of feeling, hard to describe really, unless you know what I am saying and you feel it too. We usually go to IOA every other trip (though we do not plan on it this trip when we normally would, we have to keep costs down.) A big part of why I like to return to Disney is because of that feeling. I like feeling like a kid, not that you can't feel that way at Universal, but it isn't at all the same. I would do almost anything to visit Disney with my family, but an amusement park, not really.

Like I said, we have similar things closer to home, but nothing like D:love: I:love: S:love: N:love: E:love: Y...

I couldn't have said it better!

Universal fans like Universal better. Disney isn't horrible and I don't think most of us have said that.

Telling people to get over it is not very polite.

It is annoying when someone posts things about Universal and you can tell by their posts that they've never even been.

We don't have to worry about the number of people in line because we stay onsite and have no lines.:thumbsup2

Hate isn't strong enough a word for what I feel toward them and their so-called "theme parks." They're lying, thieving scum of the earth who would like nothing more than to see our precious children ground up and turned into hamburger to be served in their so-called restaurants. As for their rides, the traveling carnival that comes to my village once a year puts them to shame. Only a moron would subject themselves to the unmitigated disaster that is the Universal theme park.

(Actually, I haven't visited one since the 80s. I have no idea why people hate them. I just don't have enough time to do it all, but I plan to get there as soon as I can!)

I don't hate Universal. I prefer Disney, and we don't go to Universal every time we visit Orlando, but it's a fun park with lots of fun rides, many of which are more exciting than the Disney rides. Frankly, I think much of the Universal theming is better than Disney theming. When we go to Disney we camp at Fort Wilderness, which we love. Since we're at Fort Wilderness, Disney is convenient, and familiar. If Universal opened a campground on par with Fort Wilderness (and particularly if it extended FOTL privileges to campers), I'd be at Universal a lot more.

As a Disney fan, I can say I don't feel threatened by Universal at all. In fact, I root for Universal to succeed. I hope Universal's success will push Disney to enhance guest experience, too. Competition is a good thing.

I am still reading the replies here, but I have seen a few references to "Pooh-sized" people? Does that mean under 5'0" tall?
