Why do a door sign?

We will be in 3 staterooms in a row (the secret porthole rms, deck5!) and we made signs. It was fun, the kids got into it and even DH was saying they look nice. I put our room number on it in a few places in case someone was thinking about "borrowing" it! I had them laminated at Office max for $1.50 each. I printed them on legal size paper to make alittle larger. I got some Disney paint chips at Home depot and cut them out and put a piece of sticky magnetic tape on the back. Some I added ribbons to to look like balloons. I am going to use the small dry erase board on the inside of the door to communicate with the kids!

I went on a different cruise line in November. Someone made one generic door sign for our whole group. About 30 cabins. Well I don't drink ,but I do get confused with finding my room :confused3 :confused3. One door sign & Oxyen sign on my door & I tried to get into my neigbors cabin. Of course key didn't fit & a good thing they weren't there. Duh how dumb I felt. Please feel free to laugh :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao: .

It also helps you find your way if you've had one too many margaritas ;)

My son was with us on our 2/25 cruise. He was home on 15 days R&R from Iraq. Yesterday, we had lunch with my mom, two of my sisters and one of my aunts. When we talked about our door signs during the conversation yesterday . . . . he admitted that it definitely helped him to find the right room when he had drank a bit more than he should have!

;)

On our Thanksgiving2004 cruise we saw a few people with door signs and we did a small one too. That was a surprise cruise for the boys so there was no way we could have them help create the signs.

For the Thanksgiving2005 cruise, we may have gone overboard creating and bringing over 100 magnets (who am I kidding...no way is that overboard  ).

We spent hours shopping for Disney related (and Eagles related) stickers in different craft stores (we used the Disney paint chips too for each of our names) and then cut the magnetic tape and adhered it to the back of all of them. Some of the stickers were wild and extremely well done! We had themes for each day of the cruise for both stateroom doors! :woohoo:

Each morning, while some of us were taking a few minutes longer than others to get ready, the one's who were chomping at the bit to leave took 5 minutes to update the doors. That was enough time for everyone to get ready...and a lot of fun too! :wizard:

This is such a great idea. We will definitely have one for our next cruise.

Edited because I found the answer after doing more digging. This will be a blast! I already have the magnetic paper because we make pictures of our son for our fridge that way.

We also had someone stop us and thank us for our door signs. We were right by the aft elevators and they said they knew they had turned the right way when they saw our door signs. :artist:

My DD just 4 has helped make ours, we have green mickey mouse shaped cut outs and our Dis and Dib names on, plus a photo of her as her fav princess and then lots of pixie dust and disney stickers. :goodvibes

Shes soooo proud she has taken it to pre school to show everyone, before shes even cruised!! :thumbsup2

Its fun, cheap and a great way to fill the time untill you cruise!

Please forgive me for my ignorance but how do you make one of these door signs? I don't think I have ever seen magnetic paper/card here in the UK

Hi Clare D

I think you can get it in Staples, Office world etc. However We just used a bright lime green ( DIS colour) card, used a dinner plate for Mickeys head and a side plate for ears ( drawing an outline). We then decorated a piece of A4 white cared, with a photo, and some glitter ( pixie dust) and Disney stickers, and I took to work and laminated it. We will put it up with blu tac on our door.

Its not dead posh or anything, but my DD 4 is thrilled and to me thats good enough. !!! :cheer2:

DD15 wanted to do a door sign after having read about them, but she was busy with the spring play and finals right up until a few days before we left for our cruise. Because we didn't have much time I didn't bother with magnetic paper. I found some darling scrapbooking cardstock at Michaels. They were very bright and had Mickey, Donald and Goofy, and "boxes" to insert photos. DD wrote our first names and sailing dates in some of the boxes and glued a photo of the Magic in another box. I bought magnetic clips at Target and easily attached the signs to the doors. They were very cute and helped us find our doors, especially since all the doors are identical.

I'm just wondering, I've seen some really creative looking door signs out on the door sign thread... but I don't get it. Why do you need a door sign? Or is it just to show you're in the know and it's fun to make? I cruised in 2004 on a 3 day and don't remember noticing any door signs.

thanks!

Here's the magnetic door sign link with photos and ideas of what you can do to decorate your stateroom door. I can't get the hyper link to work right :badpc:

One of the many reasons we decorate our door with magnets is because it helps you get to know your neighbors. Whenever we were near our door and someone passed by, they always commented on our signs. It was fun talking to everyone and it was fun giving them away (100+ magnets) at the end of the cruise.

I printed out 100+ nautical flags representing the letters of the alphabet as well as 50+ Mickey mouse figures, smiley faces, peace signs, and other things applicable to us and our cruise. It was fun re-arranging them everyday. We re-arranged the letters for all kinds of sayings. This year I need to print more of the more-often used letters so I have enough.

I need to get started soon for our cruise this August. I have been waiting to do it since it is so fun to compile the whole thing and it is something too look forward to.

Here is an example of a nautical flag that I used (I cut them down to size):

Nautical Flag for the letter A

I hope to print out a lot more, so I can give some away to others who want door signs, but didn't know about them in advance. We gave away a lot to people who wanted to put their names on their own door. Since my magnets are small (2-4"), I could print 20 or more on a sheet of magnetic paper. Any image I found on the internet can be printed. I then cut out each one.

PM me if you want more info.

I made all my nieces and nephews personalized door signs. We taught them if they got seperated from us to go back to their door signs and stand. My then 6 year old nephew did just that when he got lost from us. When my Dsis and I got to our cabins he was standing in front of the door waiting.

I made 4 signs for our 7/29/06 cruise and did it for the fun of it :cool1:

There were several doors on our deck with signs and we enjoyed looking at them.

The best thing about it was that it really helped our kids....even our 2 year old...find our door. pirate:

We had never heard of doing door signs until I read about it on theses boards. We were on the Magic last Halloween, and before we left I made door signs for ourselves and friends of our that were with us. It did pass some of the time by while we were waiting anxiously to go and we had a great time doing it and being creative. We will be cruising again in 2008 and we'll be doing them again.
