Why didn't someone warn me it was gonna really hurt

I just saw this thread. I posted earlier today about my youngest growing up, (taking driver's education), and after I left her with the instructor, I cried all the way home. :sad1:

 to you. I understand!

OK someone pass the tissues. Just reading this thread is making me cry.

Unfortunately I don't think this will ever get easier. Yesterday my dh and I dropped my son off at our AMTRAK station for his 5-hr. trip back to Boston. Although I'm "better" then I was last year (my son is a sophomore), I do cry when he leaves or when we drop him off.

About one week prior to his "move - in" freshman year, I sat my son down in the privacy of our home and explained that if my goodbye in his dorm (the moment I had been dreading for 18 years) seemed abrupt, to please understand that for his sake (not wanting to embarress him), and my own, I would try to make my goodbye quick........as I don't think I'd be able to leave him in a dignified way (I'm a horribly unattractive crier).

This has worked ok for me both times. The AMTRAK drop-off is hard too. You're standing there on the platform waiting for that darned train to come (and deep down hoping it never does), but it does. :sad1:

I'm pretty lucky, as my son says he is happy to come home, yet he's excited when it's time to go back. I can't wait until March ( his spring break). :cool1:

:grouphug: Hugs to all of you going throught this, but I will need them back, please, when dd leaves in a year & a half.
