Why did you buy?

We bought primarily because we were going every year and staying in deluxe resorts. After looking into DVC we felt it was a decent value compared to what we were already paying out. Now skip forward a few years and #4 is due. So now we are thankful we have it because it would be very difficult and expensive to travel down as a family of 6.

Maybe this has been asked before but, why did you buy DVC? There are other vacation clubs, timeshares, condos, etc. Our family bought DVC because we love getting out of cold Michigan and coming to Disney World. We bought into a timeshare because we used to think of every reason in the world not to take a vacation with the family. Too busy, kids schedule, no money right now, too late to go, all kinds of reasons. Now we go at least once a year, if not two or three. Without the DVC we would still be making up reasons not to get away and make memories that will last long after I'm gone. Just curious if I'm the only goofball who feels this way.

The answer: we could...........and we did.........some 13 years ago.

We bought for similar/same reasons as others.
A: deluxe accommodations are getting out of sight in price and this is a great way to conitue staying at that level for life.
B: We currently don't go anywhere else but WDW. I don't see that changing for a good LONG time if ever.
C: The food quality at WDW has gone from (in our options) okay to down right awful. I'll be happy to grab a bagel or something quick the the morning in my own kitchen and CS during the day with some sandwiches thrown in, and maybe a dinner or 2 in the room. I'm SOOOO done spending voer $150 on a meal that bites, literally.
oh and D: To let us go every year or at least every 2 years! Otherwise it was every 3 or 4 which was sad. And you guys all know, how fast the kids grow, I want to cram in as much Disney and family time as possible.

Because we realized we spent more money on past vacations than DVC membership cost. We love WDW and the idea of being able to go back every year and not having to spend that amount every year was too good to pass up.

Back in the days before MYW tickets...dh and I would always plan something for our 1st evening at WDW so that we wouldn't have to burn a full day's ticket for just one evening.

So...in 2002 on our 10th anniversary trip...we decided to check out the Boardwalk entertainment area. That night...the pixie dust was flying through the air. We were in a romantic mood, were still fresh for the trip, and loved strolling around crescent lake. There were 4 saxophone players in baseball uniforms playing that night. (I've seen them in MK since then.)

Later in the trip, we took the tour at BWV. We were hooked...we wanted to sign on the dotted line....This looked great!!

We talked to our guide...looked at the points charts...said this is great...sign us up....75 points please!



OOPS!! NO CAN DO!!! You must buy at least 150 points!

Fast Forward 4 years...we found the disboards and Allearsnet.

We found the resellers, built our confidence, did some soul searching...and bought 100 points. We are still happy. We have had addonitis, but are currently happy with still only have 100 points.

We paid more per point through resale than we would have through Disney in 2002.

We love Disney and having 4 kids I would be looking at having to get two rooms for the most resorts unless I rented a DVC unit. Buying DVC was a way to obtain greater comfort than you would get at most resorts renting two rooms. The kitchens allow for breakfast prep that saves time in the morning and having the washer/dryer in the units allows us to pack less than we would normally have to.

We got us to consider DVC is that we love vacationing at Disney, both Land and World. We got us to purchase DVC was realizing that other than dues, we could own DVC for the price of 4-5 trips to DL/WDW (room only) for our family of 5. We had looked into other timeshares and almost bought but it never felt right.

We own other timeshare for vacations, family time and fun stuff ... we bought DVC for a work-related conference. We dragged our feet for 6 years before buying as the employer was paying all expenses for the trip and booking nice places (Dolphin or Yacht Club). When they quit paying, we joined DVC to use the Boardwalk as our "home base" for the event.
