The house a few down from me just sold and they have moved in. We are a beautiful old neighborhood-- houses from the 70's and 80's--back when they worked around the trees already there to build instead of just clear cutting the land and putting up a bunch of cookie cutter houses like they do now. :sad2:

All I have heard this week and last is the droning of a chain saw and the wood chipper. They are having almost all of the beautiful trees removed. Gorgeous, healthy trees that have stood for hundreds of years. :(

If you didn't want trees on your lot, why did you buy a house in my neighborhood????? Why didn't you go and buy some house in one of the new, tree free neighborhoods that are easy to find around here????

The chain saw is driving me crazy

:sad2: The wood will bring someone allot of $$$$! ::yes::
I lived in New England my whole life (recently just relocated to CA)...saw it all the time. Developers coming into some lovely old towns, older neighborhoods, buying up any available land and the first thing they do is hire someone to cut down all the trees to make some serious money. :headache:

I hate that - when the whole aesthetic of a neighborhood is broken up by one homeowner who has other ideas. I'm not suggesting that all houses look the same, but something like old growth trees - leave them alone.

LOL - homes in your area would be listed as modern here! I'd say 1/3 were built in the early 1900's. I agree with the tree issue - here you have to get a permit to remove trees, I think $100 per tree, to discourage this. We have some big old trees here.

I completely feel your pain! I think there is a limit on the # of trees you can cut down in my town. I hope, there is, at least.

When we bought our house, the first thing we did was get rid of 5 trees. It gave us so much more room. Now in my town, you have to go to the town to get permition to cut down a tree, and then when you do, you have to plant another one in its place.... I don't know how much sence that makes.....

maybe the trees were diseased and they didn't want them falling on the house? I've seen that happen a few times and it's not pretty, and very costly.

I had wondered where Mr. T had moved to!

Explanation of Joke for the Young: Mr. T was an actor whom, after achieving some small measure of fame and fortune curiously unconnected to actual talent, moved to an 'estate' known for its beautiful trees, and then personally cut them all down with his trusty chainsaw.

I pity the fools who don't know who Mr. T is.

Another Explanation of Joke for the Young: Mr. T's 'catch phrase' was "I pity the fool". For more information please watch the old television show called The A Team.

I am with the original poster. We had a wooded area close to Fort Worth. Someone purchased the tract and developed it as a subdivision, which included cutting down every single tree and putting up houses. I believe he called it "Shady Trail Acres" or such.

Somebody cuts down trees on their property and it bothers you?

Just think of all the beautiful things that happen when trees are removed.

Maybe they are putting in a pool?

They are cutting them from all around the house-- it is a corner lot. Can't imagine it would be specifically because of a pool.

The trees were perfectly healthy-- no sign of disease before this and none from seeing what they have taken down. As far as I know there is no need for any permits or any rules about taking trees down.

Around here the amount of trees on your lot increases the property value when you go to sell. They must have gotten a good deal on the house because they are doing some serious damage to the value of it.

I assume that said poster, "Shrubber", is, in fact, a green shrub, and so is pleased when the shrubs natural enemy, trees, are taken down.

Remember, shrubs are jealous of trees, while trees look down on shrubs.

I shall now go watch that scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail about shrubbery, and I shall get back to you with more insight.

Well,
Think of all the wonderful things that can be done with the wood

Everything from making a grand piano to building materials for homes.

The wood chips composted for mulch ect.

:)

Actually, I sell trees and shrubs for a living

or wooden pegs for one-legged pirates. You have converted me. Ignore my previous post. Cut down these monstrosities that block out sunlight and all that is good in this world. Trees, schmees...bah!!! Who needs oxygen and clean air anyway?

We did this on the rental property we bought in May. We took out a ton of large trees.

We liked the house, it's in a good school district so that it will bring in more rental revenue but we didn't like the trees. We have taken out all of the existing landscaping, redid the irrigation system, planted new/different landscaping with less and different trees that will allow more sunlight onto the property.

I never considered what the neighbors may have thought. Everyone's taste is different.

Ah! Well, the original poster knows someone whom will need new trees and shrubs!

;)

Excatly,

While some might like the look of a bunch of big ol trees, it certainly limits the landscaping possibiliites of the home.
OP do you have any kind of idea of what kinds of trees we are talking about here?

We took down several large OLD, "healthy" trees when we moved in 6 years ago. I say "healthy" because while they looked great on the outside, they were so rotted and diseased on the inside that every time the wind blew another batch of sticks and limbs would fall on our house and property. They had to go. Plus the house gets more sunlight now and is brighter...and less raking!
