Why did Olivia's @ OKW have to change?

I think those Disney World cookbooks are going to become very thin.
...and the guests are going to become very fat.

I can attest to that! I was there July 14-17 and gained 5 lbs! :crazy2:

We've already decided not to do the DP next trip & are planning on trying the non-DP restaurants. At least I won't feel like we are at a wedding reception.

What restaurants are not part of the DDP? We are going in Sept. We have the DDE, are there any restaurants that aren't part of DDP but do accept DDE? Is there a list somewhere?

Victoria & Albert's. ;)

...but that doesn't stop the DDPers from trying.

We were there a few weeks ago and when the server brought the bill I wondered aloud to the wife, "How many people do you think have tried to pay with the dining plan?" She was sure no one would ever try something so outrageous. My thoughts were to the contrary and soon we'd agreed upon a friendly little wager - one that's only appropriate between husband and wife.

Anyway, the waiter returned and confirmed that V&A guests do indeed expect to use their TS credits quite frequently. Apparently, they often claim the front desk told them they could do it. He said you wouldn't believe the shocked look on their faces when they begin to realize they're actually going to have to pay the dollar amount sitting in front of them.

He then asked why I was grinning so broadly but the wife elbowed me in the ribs before I could reply.

Yikes!

That would be quite a shock if one was anticipating one of those $0.00 DDP bills.

One More Try--

WDW is for the masses. The masses just might not be able to afford to go to WDW as often as others (DVC members). I grew up poor and my parents scrimped and saved to take us to WDW. I think that is true of a good portion of WDW visitors. Percentage??? Not sure.

That would be fun with our 3 kids, I'm sure the others eating would love it ;)

Can you imagine? How old are your 3? As you can see from my signature, my girls are 7, 5 and 2.

Our kids are 9, 6, and 1. Our 1 y/o is a cup & food thrower and likes to smear food in her hair, wouldn't she be great in V&A. :lmao:

Wouldn't THAT be a sight?! :rotfl:

Reminds me of the one time we decided to take DD7 to Chefs de France for lunch. She was about 17 mos. old, and she had been so incredibly good the entire trip. It was our last day, so we thought, why not. WHY NOT?! When she got totally antsy and threw her menu, and we watched it floating through the air, we knew why not! The waiters were literally running out with her food. They probably have our pictures up somewhere -- do not let these people back in! :rotfl2:

When this thread was still on the front page, I sent a e-mail to DVC complaining about the changes to this fine restaurant. I received a phone call on Thursday(Aug. 10) from a Michelle in response. I was not at home at the time. It seemed as if she was reading from a script and basically stated they were sorry we did not enjoy Olivia's and she was going to forward it to the appropriate people. She then left a number where I could reach her if I had any additional comments for concerns. I have tried for two days now to get thru on this number but to no avail. I keep getting a fast busy or a recording stating the line is being check for problems. I don't even know why I am trying, I know it will do no good. Has anyone else had this kind of issue with a number they have given you??....smjj

We are just back from OKW. We ate at Olivia's one night and mentioned to our server the posts on here about disappointment w/ the new menu. She said she was told not to make comments but shook her head in agreement when we asked her if a lot of people complained about the changes. They don't even have key lime pie anymore-just a tart!

Thanks for the updates smjj and Bribrittmom.....I'll be checking out Olivia's during the next several days.....maybe I'll try and get a contact number or address that works. We usually love Olivia's but this will be our first visit since the changes I'm hearing about.

We had the same thing happen to us. Our server(our favorite who we always ask for) was told to not comment and just whispered to us the complaints they have been getting about the menu change to the new convention type food. They could probably just shutdown the kitchen and just ship the food over from a food factory they hide onsite and would deny they have. I guess the reason I am p***ed off is this is a theme restaurant that served themed food made onsite. Other than the theming of the restaurant, its no different from most other onsite restaurants now. Oh well, anything to make a buck right..smjj.

smjj,

Dont say that too loud about the centralized food factory! LOL!!

I do believe that's next. Just like the centralized front desk for all the resorts, Disney could have 1 main kitchen serve all the restaurants. Especially with the standardized menus.

Thats how convention centers and Country Clubs work. 1 big industrial kitchen serves all the ballrooms and conference rooms.

Wont be long now

What?? The restaurant at the resort called Old Key West does not serve Key Lime Pie?? That's THE dessert that Key West is known for. What is up with this? We need to get our hands on some executives here and shake the conciousness out of them! :bounce:

Goods to Go has Key Lime Pie but not Olivia's. I think that's really odd.
Maybe the key lime tart with raspberry sauce is supposed to be the upscale version of key lime pie. Tastewise it bears a surprising resemblence to key lime pie - I got mine to go in April and ate it at the airport. The shape was different but basically it is key lime pie----
